I love the idea of Storm and Black Panther together, they are both bad-asses and look really hot together. Unfortunately they rushed their relationship too much. In fact there is barely any relationship at all, they fell in love when they were young but T'Challa broke her heart, then they met over the years, and now out of the blue he asks her to marry him because his mother has pushed him to it. At first Storm is reluctant -with good reason- but he claims that he is ready to love her like she deserves. And in my opinion that's perfectly fine, but he should prove it. Ororo being the strong woman she is should have asked him to date for awhile before giving him an answer, get to know each other all over again since they have both grown up and changed, see if they can be together despite their busy lives and various commitments. Ororo is not the kind of woman who turns her life upside down because of a man, not matter how much she loves him, but no, she accepts the proposal in the span of a day, which it's very out of character if you ask me.

At some point some Wakandan youths point out they should date first and one says that true love doesn't wait, and perhaps that could apply to their case if it weren't for how hurt Ororo still is over their break up all those years back which she herself alludes to in the first issue of this story arc. All in all it's a very unsatisfactory execution of what could have been one of the best couples of the Marvel Universe. They deserved better!

Black Panther: The Bride collects issues 14-18 of the series Black Panther by Reginald Hudlin with art by Scot Eaton.

The Wedding of the Century is on! Black Panther and Storm must prepare for the wedding, meet each other's families, and most dangerous of all: Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties must be held. But how will party guests act during the ceremony when attendees of both sides of the Superhuman Regustration Act show up?

This was a fun arc but nothing ground breaking. My favorite moment was Storm's grandparents taking out some Hydra soldiers. This arc contained some issues I originally read many years ago when the Civil War event was releasing. It was fun to revisit these issues.

This was whatever is the emotional/intellectual equivalent of a thirst trap and I am weak.
T'challa and storm are two my favorite heroes individually, also both of them are really hot and the only romance in the MCU I care about. Was this story perfect- hell no, probably a better version of this exits as fan fiction even somewhere but I'm weak .

Continuing the great X-read of 2017 that has now stretched into 2018...

Okay. So I am way behind on reviewing these x-books that I have been reading. So I am going to just kind of ramble about all of them and copy/paste my thoughts. Which will make for a bit of a mess and I am sorry. Quick ramblings:

Cable and Deadpool continues to be surprisingly good though a little more scattered in these couple of volumes.
X-Men the Blood of Apocalypse was rushed in my opinion...
Phoenix Warsong was pretty decent. Melodramatic but not a bad story. (and when is a Phoenix story not melodramatic?)
New X-Men is a good series with some great characters that grow volume by volume.
Uncanny First Foursaken was not my cup of tea really.
Black Panther: The Bride was probably much better to BP readers. As part of an X-Men run, it can probably be skipped.
Wolverine Origins born in blood was not particularly memorable.
Astonishing X-Men will possibly get its own review as it is a reread and interesting as such...
Civil War was one of the first times in my life that I could say that the movie was better than the book. For the most part, it was really boring to me. The X-Men universe tie-ins were only slightly more interesting to me.
X-factor continues to be a delight.
Exiles continues to be great.

I need to get back to writing reviews of these as I finish them. Reading them in quick succession like this, I begin to forget what happened in individual books (which I suppose equally speaks to the books themselves and my memory...)

The best thing I can say about this book is that it is fun. There is quite a lot of fun to be had with Reginald Hudlin's Black Panther run. There are a lot of moments of great comedy and moments that put a genuine smile on my face to read. The art in the book is almost always gorgeous looking aside from a few times where that it falls a little flat. I love how complete this universe feels too. The book takes place during the events of the first Civil War and it there is a bit of connection there, but it not done to the point where it is completely lost on the reader. It was neat to see all of these superheroes coming together for the same purpose and just party and have fun together. It is really great. The interactions between Storm and Tchala are also great in this book as well.

The book does have some issues though. There are at times way to many references to Pop singers, jazz musicians, hip hop artist and others. And at times the dialogue feels very blaxploitation more than anything else. Also the lead up to the wedding of Tchala and Storm felt very rushed and your really in the end feel like your being told to just go along with the plot because you have because it always makes sense.

Even so I still really enjoyed reading this book. It was very fun for me and I would recommend people give it a read along with the rest of Hudlin's run on the character.

From the previous arc, "Bad Mutha", a story thread that gets picked up here is the search for a bride for the Black Panther, a cultural norm for those carrying the ceremonial mantle to ensure the royal line is continued. Though it seems like many might be considered as the Panther's bride, it's pretty clear that the only choice of T'Challa is Storm. This arc is a bit of an improvement over the lackluster couple preceding volumes, though not by much. Hudlin does a decent job leading into the wedding day activities by setting aside time to craft the customs and even the hilarity of the situation. There are moments where the couple get to show some genuine affection for one another, which adds to the gravitas of the day. It does feel a little overlong by the end, but overall a fun enough time. Eaton's artwork is a bit better in this arc compared to the more rushed interiors of "Bad Mutha", but I still can't say I'm the biggest fan. Kaare Andrews supplies some work for the interiors who does steal some of the spotlight in my opinion.

Storm and the Panther as a c0uple never really worked for me. It seemed forced, and I don't envy Reginald Hudlin's remit in making it work. Other than that, these issues are much better than the last trade, because Hudlin has slowed down and is spending time to develop characters and their personalities. If not for the horrible editorial fiat that these two characters be forced into a marriage, I think it would work better.

A good read about the wedding of the year

This book was better than I thought. I was not a fan of their pairing. But it is intriguing. You kind of want them together because of their flirtations are hilarious. And seeing the heroes doing normal everyday things, is a pip. A great read.

Really liked this volume and seeing everyone at the wedding (even if briefly because of Civil War) - and loved the inclusion of Isaiah Bradley!

Reginald Hudlin's run on Black Panther was, at that point, the best treatment the character had ever received (aside from Jack Kirby, of course). This volume contains five issues of the series, highly publicized upon their original publication, chronicling the marriage of T'Challa to Storm of the X-Men. The story is mostly silly, containing moments like Panther's bachelor party, and Storm's shopping expeditions with Kitty Pryde. There's not much action here, and a hinted attack by the villain Man-Ape goes nowhere. Storm is often reduced to a stereotype, having cat-fights with female rivals in department stores and fretting about meeting T'Challa's mother.

It's a diverting story, but difficult to take seriously. On the other hand, it's somewhat refreshing to see the more human side of these characters, and Hudlin's often heavy dialogue provides plenty of opportunities for characterization. This story took place during Marvel's Civil War event, and there's a tense scene between Iron Man and Captain America as they debate whether they can stand to be at the same wedding with one another (They can't.). In true stereotypical comic-book fashion, Scot Eaton's art frequently emphasizes Storm's breasts and ass, if one gets bored reading words.

This is certainly not a volume I would hold up as representing the best in comics, but it's a unique enough story that one may be tempted to overlook its flaws. If you have a familiarity and/or affection for Panther, this collection provides a somewhat unique approach to the character that has not been seen before, but I wouldn't call it a game-changer.

Details the engagement and marriage of Black Panther and Storm. This relationship, in my opinion, is one of Marvel's big failures. Many fans objected that the relationship started and was consummated very suddenly just prior to the Civil War, with a retconned "love at first sight" moment in their youth embedded in the past before they went their separate ways. Aside from this, I, and many others, simply didn't care. T'Challa and Ororo seemed made for each other. Their wedding was awesome. Love, love, love this romance! AND they just happen to be representin' the only black couple in the Marvel Universe. It could have lasted forever, but nooooo. It ended just as abruptly and even more illogically than it started, just about 6 months later in Avengers vs. X-Men.

My 2nd time reading this. I've always loved T'Challa and Storm's relationship. But this series gave us a closer look at how/when they first met and THEN SOME. The ties to Malcolm X were a great nod. Now that I know WHY T'Challa left her the first time, it actually makes a lot more sense why she finally forgave him. It was evident whenever they were around each other that they were meant to be together. I'm glad she decided to return to Africa and stay awhile because it led to one of the most iconic moments for BP fans...T'Challa popping the question! The global reaction and skepticism to their wedding engagement was awesome and Storm is without question the most beautiful bride ever penciled!

What's to love about the about reading this graphic novel? Well, let's see . . . the hero's marriage to a popular member of the X-Men, subtle commentary about a former U.S. president, and a debate among several superheroes on proposed legislation for a superhero registry. Two of these entice the reader to want to explore the worlds of the Black Panther and the other superheros in other books. Meanwhile, the competition to win the Black Panther as a husband delivered some entertaining cattiness.

I really like the idea of putting Storm and Black Panther together. Even though a lot of people have seen this as "gimmicky," it actually makes a lot of sense--the two characters really have a lot in common. And I like what Hudlin does by giving every (even remotely) related character a chance to reveal how they feel about it. But unfortunately, it just doesn't make a very compelling story. The things I like about it from a 'bigger picture' standpoint make it weak in the actual reading. Oh well.

Call me a romantic but I love comic characters romances and weddings. Tis book follows the engagement of Black Panther and Storm upto their marriage. There's lots of cameos and some nice nodds to the Civil War situation. A really good, happy read.

I always appreciate Hudlin's take on the Black Panther, and all of the characterizations in this volume are on point, but I have never read a superhero comic with less dramatic tension than I have here.

Build up to and culmination of the wedding of the century. Still not wild about Hudlin as a writer but this is a good overall arc. This is such a great pairing too between Storm and Black Panther and should be really exciting to watch.
