You look straight ahead. You try to breathe normally. You can smell the scent of the huge cat that is staring back. You are a cameraman. He is the King of Beasts. Your only thought is "I hope he has already eaten today." Let National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence Dereck and Beverly Joubert bring you closer to the power and majesty of the regal African lion. With fewer than 25,000 wild lions now left on Earth, the award-winning filmmakers and naturalists make a passionate plea to readers to take an active role in securing a future for these magnificent creatures.
Another book in the homeschool zoology curriculum. We are studying grasslands now and so of course they started with the most charismatic megafauna of the African Savanna, lions! This sweet little book by a husband and wife duo that have been living with and studying lions for 25 years was the perfect combination of photographs (so cute or powerful), factoids and information about lions, personal stories, and ways that kids can get involved in conservation. A nice treat of a book for any young kids in your life that love lions!
Excellent photos and basic lion information are presented in a casual, conversational tone. The large font is easy to read with lots of white space for a kid friendly layout. Back matter has unusual look and contents, including chatty stories from the authors' life in the bush.
Great photographs of lions with an important message of conservation of nature. A sure bet for lion lovers, someone looking for more information about lions or simply terrific photos.
