4.5 stars. I really enjoyed the approach Munkelwitz has to dog training. So many awesome tips and tricks within these chapters, as well as a ton of good information for a new dog owner. Munkelwitz focuses on positive reinforcement training and using treats to reward good behaviour while avoiding bad behaviour by substituting for other activities or simply ignoring (ex: whining in kennel). My only real complaint was that a few of the tidbits of information was only applicable to Americans.

Anyways, wish me luck guys!

Must read for all dog owners

I’ve loved and raised two dogs so far. After my 14 year old golden doodle died, I decided to jump right back in and got a 9 week old bernedoodle. I had forgotten how difficult a puppy could be a decided to pick up this book as a refresher.

It was way more than a refresher! I learned so many valuable lessons that I really this book was around 26 years ago when we got our first puppy. The damage we could have avoided, especially with our first dog, is beyond imagination.

If you are planning to get a dog or thinking of getting one in the future, start with this book. If you already have a puppy or older dog, you’ll still find this book useful.

I’ll be rereading many sections of this book and will follow Kaelin’s advice on social media to keep my training skills sharp to raise the best dog companion possible.

This was straightforward and helpful in how to train our puppy! We have utilized some of the recommendations and training tools and they have worked out well. Patience above all is key

Giving this 4 stars as there definitely is a lot of useful advice in there and it has helped us getting started with our puppy. Be aware that it is a very American style puppy book, and certain strategies might not be as common in other parts of the world and might not feel as right. We took out what we needed and ignored the rest and we're happy enough with that! So thanks for the help! The star I'm taking away is for the editing of the book which is really bad unfortunately. Inconsistent and inappropriate gendering, partly way too conversational and no index.

I would strongly recommend this to all dog owners. I got this book when my dog was about 6 months old and it helped us better understand some of the behaviours she was exhibiting. It's super quick to flip through and to find what you need to work on. I love her method and think that it's an easy read. i just finished flipping through the last few pages today!

Thanks for reading,
Sidny

Step by step

The author should have told a story as she instructed paw parents. Most of us do not want to train a dog to compete or becoming a loving service dog. Most of us want to keep our pets safe and establish boundaries for a fun loving pet. The ideas of positive discipline is useful. Everyone and every living bring enjoy play and that was lacking in her messaging.

This book is a good guide for new puppy parents with basics on training, house breaking, vaccines etc etc. The only thing i'd wish to have at the end of this book is a cheat sheet of all the top to-dos so we don't have to go through the index each time you wanna check something out real quick.
Overall a good read.

Fabulous Puppy Help!

The Puyot Training Handbook was an easy read, with straightforward guidelines. We have had our new pup for 4 days now, and the author’s advice on crate training and potty training has already worked beautifully. I highly recommend this book!

Excellent Guide

This book covers it all. It's easy to understand and well-written. It moves from basic training to correcting behavioural issues to the basic care of you dog. If you have a new puppy, or a dog at all, I suggest giving this a read.

Not all puppies are the same. Not all handbooks are the same. I have been reading many because this time I got a very active puppy. This handbook has been really helpful. It left me with lots of hope and not feeling overwhelmed.

Dogmatic (pun intended) closed minded to other cultural groups and practices and completely out-dated
