This accessible volume helps school leadership teams accomplish the crucial yet often overlooked task of improving universal instruction--Tier 1 within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). Strong universal instruction reduces the numbers of PreK–12 students who may need additional services and supports. Providing clear action steps and encouraging guidance, the expert authors present a roadmap for evaluating the effectiveness of Tier 1, identifying barriers to successful implementation, and making and sustaining instructional improvements. In a large-size format for easy photocopying, the book includes 27 reproducible checklists, worksheets, and forms. Purchasers get access to a Web page where they can download and print the reproducible materials.
This book is in The Guilford Practical Intervention in the Schools Series, edited by Sandra M. Chafouleas.
Very glad this book and opportunity for a summer book club were presented to me. This really needs to be read by admin and people who have power to implement change in a school. If I were to work at a school capable of examining curriculum and writing learning targets, I would recommend this book as guidance. As an educator that feels I have very little power, this text helped give me some grounding and language to discuss and make small changes around the deep challenges in an educational system that does not have a shared, understandable program or curriculums.
This is comprehensive, applicable, and user-friendly for schools and district leaders looking to improve student outcomes. The authors simplify improving tier 1 instruction by including many checklists and graphic organizers. If I were a principal, I would use this as my guide.
This is a comprehensive resource with the evidence based research, supporting tools and templates, and guidance to launch manageable instructional improvement.
