A simple rhyming text threads together the many colorful photos (Booklist) in this fun and interesting way to take an armchair tour (School Library Journal) around the world.
Summary: "Shoes, Shoes, Shoes" describes the differing shoes that exist in various cultures throughout the world. Photographs of many different shoes on many different feet of people in many countries and regions are shown. Words on every page are rhyming and the book ends with an index of places where the photographs were taken.
Analysis: I loved how inclusive and diverse that this story was. It was really good to see the different types of shoes from different cultures and helps expose children to other cultures in a way that is still entertaining and fun for them to read.
How I will use this book: I want to use this book to teach my students about the clothing from different cultures and show them how people can have things different from them. I hope that they will understand how they can all have things in common despite the fact that they come from different places.
This book is very informational about one thing: shoes. The list of types of shoes goes on and on. However, there is no story. This is just about shoes.
This book would be perfect for younger grades. The pictures in the book show many different cultures and activities involving shoes. This would be a great way to teach students about the many functions of a familiar object. This could be perfect for starting a science lesson on engineering new things out of very familiar things.
It's an okay book. It shows all kinds of shoes that people wear for different things from all over the world. No illustrations, but there are photographs depicting that. There's even an index at the end of the book that explains the photographs and a map that shows the countries where the photos were taken. That was really cool. Photographs are alright.
3rd reread: It's an alright book. I guess I like it? I don't know. It's very short and has many real photographs.
I thought this book was pretty boring until DD pointed out the pictures, which are photos from around the world that are really beautiful. At the end of the book, there is a short caption that tells about each of the picture, which was interesting.
I liked seeing the pictures of shoes around the world. I read this to a kindergarten class to accompany a lesson they were doing about measuring shoes. The kids loved seeing what other people wore for shoes--like shoes made out of straw. Cute book for younger kids to be exposed to other cultures.
A rhyming book that encourages students to pair things together. I would use this to introduce a probability lesson or maybe a lesson on pairs. I would incorporate the students' shoes.
Well illustrated book on shoes. The author includes footwear various cultures and situations. The focus is on shoes with an opportunity to scaffold on the corresponding clothing as well.
