Dear Diary, I Have A Mate

Rate this book
It's him, Diary. It's Tyson. I don't know what it is about him; well I guess I do know. It's everything about him. Everything he does makes me smile. It's him—he makes me want to talk.

Arrabella was used to being abused all her life at the hands of her own father. She never felt like she amounted to anything. But then there was Tyson. He had this effect on her, which was completely understandable with his beautiful light brown eyes and muscular physique. What was utterly baffling was why he returned her interest. They were much too different: He was so handsome and part of the in-crowd while her social circle only consisted of herself and her diary.

Tyson was more than sure he wanted her. He knew she was the one meant for him—his mate. He had waited so patiently for his destiny and now that he finally found her, he would do anything to make her wholly his. There was just a tiny glitch: she did not talk, and not to mention, they were of completely different worlds.

Arrabella would soon be dragged way out of her comfort zone to the world of werewolves, packs, and mates. Will she be able to accept Tyson? Will Tyson help heal her? Will they brave the odds or will it be too much for their love to surpass?

Witness two worlds collide and succumb to a force far greater than fear.

Dear Diary I Have A Mate will entice you into a gripping journey of change, acceptance, and love.

DNF at 45%

I got pulled in by the very intriguing blurb but I was disappointed once I actually began to read this book.

While the first couple of chapters started out okay, I began to notice little things that left me feeling quite meh about this book. As I continued on, I found that the world-building, the character development, and the major plot foundations were lacking. So many things don't quite add up, or ring true --- and yes, I know it's a PNR and that it's a book about shifters --- but imo the basic plot points of a great PNR read have to be explained and grounded in reality for readers to connect to the story. For example, how can someone who hasn't talked at all for more than 8 or 9 years make it through going to school everyday without raising questions, red-flags???? Come on.

And I had more questions as I kept reading: How does she treat her bruises if she's that severely beaten by her father??? There was no mention of it. How can she go to school the day after a beating if she has a broken arm/ribs???? And she doesn't eat? At all??? And she's human??? Uh-uh, not possible. No. Freaking. Way.

Furthermore, do people in this world know about werewolves? Are these shifters immortal, or just incredibly long-lived? What does Tyson's family really do? Why is he already the Alpha at such a young age? For that matter, why is he in high school? How old is he really?? Again, no explanations.

I stopped reading when I realized that if I were to continue reading, I'd just be wasting my time. Sorry to be harsh.

On The Fence...

I am oddly torn with this book, there are things I loved about it and things I could have done without. First, I love the characters, both leading roles were well developed and unique enough for me to stay interested throughout the whole book. It was the relationship and it’s slow creation that kept me from dropping the book and moving on, they had chemistry and worked well together with very opposing personalities. So, where this book leads off a cliff for me was the pace and unnecessary plot points I didn’t find entertaining enough to enjoy. It was slow, very simplistic and despite the “paranormal” suggestion, the werewolf trait was practically useless the whole novel. Not winning any awards but entertaining enough

I love this book. Abbie did such a great job with the plot, character development, and keeping the romance alive without it being too cheesy.I have read this book 13 times and counting. I hope that this book does really well.

I knew this was going to be a struggle to finish when the 1st chapter (which is only 10 pages) consisted of Aria sighing 11 times. That’s all she seems to do. I rallied up how many time “I sighed” or something similar to it appeared. 182 times. There are many other ways to describe a character’s frustration besides just saying “I sighed” on practically every page.

There were also quite a few typos throughout the book, which made it more difficult to read as I’m a grammar nazi, and every typo made my eyes twitch uncontrollably.

I also didnt’t understand how Aria could be in school and pass classes when not only did she not speak, she also refused to write. It didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Aria even mentions that she fails every class except for math. So how she got to where she is was beyond me.

The romance between Ty and Aria was okay. But I was too annoyed by Aria’s sighs and the typos to really enjoy any of this.

First off, let me start off by saying that this book has given me a new appreciation for good literature.
I've been in a bit of a reading block and my best friend read this book and was... telling me about it as she read it and then she loaned it to me because I wanted to torture myself.
This book, Dear Diary, I have a Mate, reads like a 2012 Wattpad novel. The premise is good but when you get into it, it's long and a bit disjointed. The characters were very 2 dimensional and the world building was, to be blatantly honest, terrible. I felt no connection to any of the characters and from the 70% mark of the book, i had to get an alcoholic beverage out just so I could finish it. Which is not normal for me because alcohol and reading don't usually mix.
However, i did finish it and I can say I will never read this book again- even if it were the last book on earth. The author had a good plan but it was poorly executed.
Also, what werewolf does paperwork?

2/5 stars mainly for the comedic value I gained from reading this book

DNF - made it about 60% before I just couldn't take anymore.
The main characters are very immature with dramatic emotional swings. I felt like a teenager must have written this since it had such an immature feel to it. All the conflicts seems to end in hearts & rainbows & unicorn kisses. The physical & verbal abuse of Aria, the main female character, is glossed over, & easily forgotten by her, even more so than it was for me as a reader. I honestly don't think some of the events are possible or believable, like to be able to mentally recover from the abuse in just a matter of weeks & be able to start talking again after (I think it was) 13 years of not talking. I also don't think whatever "gas" was used to help her catch her breath after a panic attack would make her not be able to walk for hours. Or that a high school senior would take the place of his living father as alpha of a pack with another senior as his Beta. Too many things just didn't make sense in this story & it wasn't explained enough to clear up the issues. Wish I hadn't wasted as much time as I did with reading this.

This book was a really good idea. I loved the fact that she was considered mute at the beginning. It really gave the character a trait that I haven't seen done before. Unfortunately, while the idea was good, the plot was lacking. It felt like everything happened way to fast and that there wasn't really a climate to the book either. Everything seemed to happen out of the scene. I would have loved to see more interaction between her, her father and Tyson, or really any parent at all. The shifter universe could have also been better explored. Despite the fact that they were mates, there was not a lot to do with the fact that this was a shifter book.

There were definitely parts of the book that has some great potential, but it stopped short before the characters and scene were explored completely.

The author has an amazing idea and I wanted to adore this book, but I kept feeling like the book fell a little flat.

I would recommend this book to people who are interested in seeing how an author portrays a girl who is mute. I loved what she did at the beginning, it just needs to be rounded out a bit more.

I am going to reread this as the last time I read this was on Wattpad back in 2012 or 2013. But last night I was going through Wattpad and saw that this was now a published book and got SO EXCITED! I loved this story and was practically the only non-fanfiction that I read on Wattpad. I will be buying and reading this again soon!

UPDATE 2022: So where do I begin… this was not as good as I remember it being. I guess that goes to show the difference between what 12 year old me thought was good writing and what 22-year-old me KNOWS is average writing…

The blurb really draws you in. I was first drawn thinking this was a werewolf fic. This has about 10% werewolf vibes, 30% toxic relationships vibes, 40% UNREALISTIC vibes, and 20% poorly written vibes.

The author has a good base plot, but this story is really all over the place. Only finished it for the nostalgia. Overpriced on Amazon for what it is as well.

Cute, very light hearted

Though the main character deals with trauma and abuse this is an extremely light read. I liked the development of Aria's personality and the beginning of her relationship with Ty. I just didn't think there was a lot of tension. Every time there was an issue it seemed to get smoothed over too easily. What happened with her dad, her mom, Claire, Isaac, everything just gets resolved so easily that it seems unrealistic (yes I know it's a story with wolves, so it's already not realistic, it's just that thing usually don't work out so perfectly). Tyson's extreme jealous and protectiveness was a little off-putting. He seemed so overbearing especially for someone that's experienced the sort of abuse she went through.
It reminded me a lot of Twilight but without all the drama and action in that. Although I will say I thought Aria was more interesting than Bella.
I also felt like her trauma sort of dissolves pretty easily and it annoyed me how pushy Ty was. As someone who has experienced something traumatic, I just know that someone trying to force me to talk would not help me.
Also what was the deal with the oxygen always making her unable to walk and pass out? I have family members that have coded and been put on oxygen for those reason but they coded from extreme medical problems, but I would think someone needing oxygen for what sounded like a panic attack wouldn't cause such an extreme reaction. (I haven't done any research on this though). I just know that I've been able to regulate my breathing with paper bags when having a panic or anxiety attack. Just those details got to me because it seemed like it was to add drama but it wasn't realistic or even handled well, in my opinion. It just seemed overdramatic.
The story overall is cute and funny, but I probably wouldn't read it again or really recommend it to anyone.

"People are like clouds. Other people can see them as they want but only the person knows who they truly are." 🎵The Wolf by Leo🎵- song that makes me think of this book. Dear Diary I have a Mate by Aimee Lynn was not what i expected at all. The cover is deceiving in the sense of it looks like a heavy contemporary and thats how the beginning was too... so if you go in blind that's what you think this book may be it is not and the song i chose can give you a hint as to why. I liked the characters and some moments that were presented i enjoyed however there was a lot of overdramatic parts, time jumps that did not make sense and even in the middle of the book there was random changes in perspective that were not necessary. In addition there were soooo many typos in the kindle version i felt like I was going to throw my kindle sometimes. Overall it kept my attention and i was curious about what would happen next so because of this i would rate this book a 2 out of 5 stars. If you want a mindless soap opera with some supernatural aspects check this out!.

Why?! Why have the lastest 2 books I've attempted to read been awful?! I'm trying to get out of a reading slump and these past few boos definitely aren't helping!!!!

Literaly this book:
mc: scared, no ... brave ... cowering, mute ... talking ... mute ... hiding to beta dude (uhh Chase? Idk ifforgot already)
I have no clue what it would be like to be mute from traumatic experiences and I'm so happy that she's at trying! But that damn dude has to stop gassing her, like she wants to try letting it past but nooooooooo ... he gets freaked out. Tho if I think about it, I guess I would too ... IDK it just rlly annoyed me
Beta dudes funny tho shes always running to him! Like hes always there lol. Also you would think that the rooms are sound proof if they have super good hearing. Honestly I don't want people listening to me when I take my private moments in the bathroom and stuff. tbh bleh!

Also none of the pnr stuff was explained lol it kinda sucked already up to where I was reading having no clue what was going on.

I want to commend the author for finishing a novel. It was a great effort! Unfortunately, I DNF’d. It was super slow moving for me. It seemed this was written by a young teen. If this was a high school assignment I’d give it 3 stars. As this is put up against other ya shifter novels, it is not quite up to speed. There is little to no conflict, so barely an arc to the story. It actually felt more like a book of backstory on the characters than the actual story. There is so much information done with little to no research it was kind of painful to read at times (from something as simple as how to get a drivers license to something more complex such as physical abuse). I wouldn’t recommend this book.

This is a nice story but at times it seemed to drag on. I thought it might be appropriate for younger kids but then I remembered the main characters are about de entrenched when they meet and start sleeping (just sleeping together). Then things ramp up a couple years later. I enjoyed the story up to about those points. Then the repeated “I love you’d” just seemed kill the rest for me.

The character are nice and we see a lot of their life. They go through a few stressful times. I am a huge shifter fan but this book just seems to fall flat for me. It seems more of a life story.

The narrator read nicely but she did repeat passages a few times. Then at the beginning of some chapters there was this weird noise. Sounded like rushing water. Not sure what that was about.

I loved the characters. Aria tells the story from a combination of first person and narrator. I would have loved to hear some of the story from Ty's prospective which didn't happen until the very end and then it felt out of place.

I had some problems with the time line and on occasion how the main character reacted to those around her. About 2/3 the way through the book the story begins jumping into the future. Weeks, Months and then years with almost no indication that we've jumped. You're just reading along and then 'oh ok we've moved on' It gives you a glimpse into the future but at the same time ties the author's hands and limits the story.

Amateur writing

This book got boring towards the middle. The characters felt pretty flat. The heroine’s playful hiding so that her mate would go find her was too repetitive. This was pretty annoying to me, once was enough. This just made them seem immature, especially for a couple that was supposed to be the Alphas of the pack. I think the writer could have found a better way to develop their relationship into something more meaningful. They didn’t feel like they were soul mates to me at all, more like a high school crush. Granted they found each other during their senior year in high school but for being soul mates their relationship lacked depth.

I first read this book on wattpad, and the story line was just amazing. This book is so good and I would totally advise anyone who hasn't read it yet to read it. It's not one of those clique werewolf books that you read. The first time I saw this, I was wondering how it would come along and by the time I finished it was amazing. Abbie did an amazing job on this story and I advise her to keep on writing because I will read all the books.

Cute story

I really enjoyed reading this book. It only took me a couple of hours. The part I liked the best was the courtship, because he's helping her get over abuse. I did appreciate that it covered so long in their lives, to know what goes on. I would have liked to have seen more of the pack operations, what it means to be alpha.

Stand alone HEA.

Contains no sex scenes, few swear words, and violence (hitting, throwing objects).

Warning

This story has abuse in it. Serious abuse. I liked the storyline, mostly. I didn’t like how things progressed with the relationships of the characters. It was missing depth to the characters. Skips way far ahead a little after halfway through, like the Author just wanted to finish the book quickly. I decided not to finish it at that point. What good is a story if you don’t tell it?

The "I love you"s kinda got frustrating, since she never knew love and stuff yet when she started speaking, it was like she'd never stopped, the fact that they declared they're love every hundred words kinda made me wanna hurl.

BTWs, this was burly a werewolf book. There was talk of them being wolfs but only one change? I guess I expected a whole lot more werewolf and a whole less romantic drama...

Not too bad.

I gave it a 3 star because it could definitely use some major editing, as well as not sound so child like in the writing but for a author just starting out it’s not the worse I’ve ever read, not bad at all, also not to rush so much slow it down and do sequels if need be! Great work!

Amazing!

I first downloaded the sample of this book & I didn’t even finish reading it before I bought the full book on the Kindle app yesterday, I finished the book today, that’s how good I found it to be. I felt all the emotions that Aria felt, I was just so in to it. I will be reading it over & over again.

This is the first book I've read written by Abbie Lynn. Interesting set of characters and story. Tho I sometimes find the characters a bit childish but still interesting. The heroine, from shy to sassy girl. The development of the story is ok. Tho my only problem in this book is that just the characters.

It was ok

This book was an ok read. It had so much potential but it was full of nothingness. The author basically dragged things on forever and it was slow paced. And I dont think the author has a good understanding of the word smirk actually means...Cause she uses it alot in scenes that don't match up with it.

I suppose if you’re a twilight fan then you’ll enjoy this. I didn’t realize the characters were so young. I generally dodge them. They were out of high school by the end. The characters seemed a little immature, but that might be because I’m not used to reading such young characters. It did drag a little in the middle.

It was cute and very sweet.

The only thing is it needs a lot of editing, the typos and grammar inaccuracies were a bit distracting. It reads how you'd expect a wattpad original would.

Weird and dull

It was weird and dull from the start. The girl was a bit childish. She couldn’t finish things like a normal person or write to other people like a normal person. I get it she’s a bused but she was weird.

Sorry Abbie Lynn

The plot was good but the story line was going way to fast. The protagonist was way too child like, girly and needy. The relationship was way to cheesy. I will give the writer a thumbs up though for following something she loves to do.

Refreshing

I REALLY enjoyed this book because it was a refreshing paranormal romance with and wonderful HEA. It wasn't dark and depressing. It was really good. If you're looking for a change, and want to read a paranormal that is lighthearted then this is the book for you.
