After the complete slump with my reading over Summer, when I could not concentrate on anything for the life of me, it seems that I have been inhaling books over the last few weeks and I have just finished this year's -perhaps too conservative- reading challenge with this one, two months ahead. I am quite selective with what I read, I follow book blogs by readers with a very high compatibility quotient with my tastes so I typically know what to pick, and that is why I ended up with over 20% of 5 star books on this year's list, and whether that makes sense or not is a discussion for another day.
This one almost did not make it to the list, but what can I say? I love this author. It appeared in my kindle by surprise on launch day as it was a pre-order, and it made my day to find it there.
Nevertheless, another winner, and it really does not need further justification. It is the cherry on an enormous pie I've been involved in for years. About nearly 20 books in between full novels, novellas and spin offs, 4 different series all connecting and with overlapping characters converge on this book which is like an extended epilogue to at least the previous ones in the Mister series, so it will not make much sense to anyone who's not a staunch fan of this author.
It gives a glimpse into where every one is at, and all other characters in previous series are not only mentioned, but many present, plus lots of meaningful snippets regarding previous books in previous series that you will only get if you are in the joke.
I probably enjoyed Five's control freak midlife crisis the most, and the vaudeville ending with a fight between siblings, pigs on the run and food flying over the last 10%. So yeah, you have to be a JA Huss's fan to get it all, but I am, so this was pure bliss.
