The holiday season pounces on Cody and Demetrius like one of the monsters they’ve tangled with. After their first time hosting Thanksgiving dinner as a couple, the two travel to Colorado to visit Cody's parents for Christmas. With all four of Cody's brothers expected as well, they're in for some pretty intense Bower family time.
When Cody's father drives his truck off the road and goes missing two days before Christmas, tensions run high within the Bower family. After Demetrius discovers some unusual clues at the scene of the accident, he and Cody suspect Greg Bower's disappearance might be tied to something more monstrous than icy roads. As often happens when the guys start working a case, some bizarre twists and turns leave Cody cursing monsters as he wonders if his parents' relationship is as solid as he's always believed.
In between samples of Cody’s brother’s primo cannabis product, the two deal with the rest of Cody's brothers, Christmas shopping with his nieces and nephews, a movie stuntman with a terrible sense of direction, and a police sergeant with some secrets of his own.

This was so good! The best part was the romance between Cody and Demetrius. They say the sweetest things to each other and the ending!!!!! I had tears of joy in my eyes. I love these two and listening to these books after reading them makes me love them even more.
I enjoyed the narration this time except for the way the narrator pronounced Colorado and how I could tell he was talking two characters with his jaw clenched. But his voices for Cody and Demetrius are spot on. Cody has a great scratchiness that is very sexy.
4.5 star series. Be prepared to suspend reality and enjoy a low angst, mild drama, warm, charming story, sort of X-files meets X-rated Scooby Doo. We have two guys just trying to do their jobs, but stumbling into one paranormal mystery after another. They have no experience investigating, policing or using weapons, so all they have is their wits, what they have on hand and good old common sense to get out of tough situations. Excellent writing, great combination of descriptive surroundings with great dialogue.
Series of 7 books following the same couple, must be read in order as it’s a slow/burn friends to lovers story. We have a full spectrum of lovely storytelling with some pining for a straight best friend, bi-awakening, monster hunting, mild violence and gore, mild injury, small town issues, big family dynamics. This series is incredibly balanced with romance, sexiness and actual plot, very well done and left me satisfied and entertained on all fronts.
Book 8 is about another couple, same universe. I skipped it as I wasn’t too invested in the characters, whom we had met through the other books.
HEA, series, same couple, vers, m/m, best friends to lovers, monsters/urban legends, mystery.
I've really enjoyed this series but this one just didn't work for me as well as the other books in the series. A lot of new secondary characters are introduced as we meet Cody's family but they stay superficial for the most part. Not a lot of time is spent on the monster hunt is this book either. There are a lot of little things happening in the book (maybe too many) because for me it seemed to go in a bunch of different directions without a lot of depth in any of them.
My favorite of the series so far. This series is a whole lot of fun, and this installment was no different. I absolutely love how completely settled into their relationship Demmy and Cody are, even when outside parties are trying to bring them down. And the monster this time around? An absolute classic, and always fun to read about.
Hank Edwards is truly gifted at writing real, authentic, and poignant human interactions, and this book has it in spades. I have to commend him for handing readers a title with at least 15 Bowers in a single location and not completely losing me. In fact, he didn’t lose me at all. And that’s a lot of Bower boys and their families to keep track of. Cody’s mother requests he come visit for Christmas, and now that their relationship is real and long-term, Cody doesn’t want to go without Demmy.
From the start of the book, life is hectic. Demmy and Cody have moved in together, their hosting their first Thanksgiving get together as a couple, and now middle child Cody is thrust back into the cluster of his family, which includes his oldest brother Grant, who is a Willy Nelson-lookalike, laugh-out-loud awesome, and pretty much always a little stoned. As well as Roman, the most conservative of the five brothers, who is definitely not happy about Demmy’s presence in Colorado, let alone finding out that Cody’s taken the next step in his friendship with the “skinny gay kid” from school.
As if the brothers, nieces and nephews, Christmas shopping, and homophobia isn’t enough to send them running back to Parson’s Hollow—they learn the night they get into Colorado, Cody’s father’s truck has been found on the side of the road with him… missing. And when Demmy finds some curious hairs and an abominable-sized footprint, their track record for avoiding monsters continues to not look good.
A monster seriously couldn’t have kidnapped Mr. Bower… right? This adventure is a race against the clock. Not only do they want to find Cody’s father in time for Christmas, as so many children and grandchildren are hoping for his return, but he’s somewhere alone in the frigid woodlands of Colorado. How long can he possibly survive without adequate clothing and food?
Another homerun in the Critter Catchers series. I simply cannot say enough good things about these books. In between moments of raw and brutal human interactions, sweet and fiery sex, there’s still copious amounts of humor and crazy ‘wtf’ paranormal elements to keep readers turning the page until the end. And my God, what an amazing ending this book has.
Cody and Demmy have come such a long way since Book 1 (Terror by Moonlight)! They're an official couple now and they've made the big decision together to stay with Cody's family for Christmas. But things are not what they expect when they arrive and they quickly dive into danger to find Cody's missing father. The creature mystery was fun but the real focus was on addressing and healing family wounds and on Cody and Demmy solidifying their relationship. I'm so happy for them and I'm looking forward (with some trepidation) to their "vacation" in the next book!
I am so in love with this series. Demmy & Cody have come a long way since book one and are finally together. They go to spend Christmas with Cody's parents and his many brothers. Not long after arriving Cody's father goes missing and signs of another monster appear at the scene. We see them face off against bigfoot and come out to his family, I did want to slap two of his brother though, Roman is such an ass! The ending was amazing and so sweet. I could reread this series again and again.
It is wonderful to visit with the gentlemen of Critter Catchers yet again. This time author Hank Edwards treats readers to Cody's commitment to his relationship with Demi in the form of a trip to meet the family in Colorado Christmas. But before Christmas, our boys must get through their first Thanksgiving as a couple living together in the home left to them by Demi's Aunt Amelia. Demi extends an invitation to dinner to the friends they have amassed over their adventures only to discover he has bitten off a whole lot to chew. The boys are successful in hosting a wonderful gathering filled with laughter and friends that in no way prepare them for the holiday events at the Bowers home. Cody and Demi are taken aback when they are not welcomed at the airport and are required to make their way by Uber to the Bower residence. They are stunned to find Cody's parents financially backing Grant Bower's cultivation of medical marijuana and its recreational use is far from the most startling thing the boys learn about Cody's parents. With a home full of Bower boys, their partners, and children (born and unborn), all are distressed with the disappearance of Greg Bower--the family's patriarch. Leaving the home after a disagreement with the wife, the father's automobile is found by the side of the road with the cell phone inside. Examination of the vehicle suggests Greg Bower hit a large animal then got out uninjured, possibly to escape after being pursued. When the boys join in with the search efforts they discover a stunt actor in a sasquatch costume who had wandered offset. But looking about for Greg Bower results in Cody and Demi finding him in addition to a very real sasquatch that was, fortunately for them all, easily distracted by the costumed stuntman. After being cornered in the shack where Greg Bower hid out, an overturned lamp causes a blaze that sets the real sasquatch on fire and running away. The guys' burns, scratches, bumps, and bruises were all patched up at the hospital and they were released in time for Christmas. The most important occurrence for the holiday visit was Cody's ability to tell the family about the change in the quality of his friendship with Demi--that he is Cody's lover and his hope for the future. With only one detractor, Demi is welcomed by both parents and three of Cody's four brothers. The story ends magnificently with Cody asking Demi to marry him! I can NOT emphasize how delighted I am with how the writer grows the series' principal characters within each book and throughout the entire series arc. Development of secondary characters occurs in each book of the series, too! The examples are too numerous to list! Along with remarkable world-building, the pacing (the rate at which the writer introduces key elements in the story) and balance (the distribution of varying types of elements in the narrative) is exemplary. With an awesome premise and compelling storyline, the author produces another exceptional novel for an outstanding series.
Owners of the animal control company, Critter Catchers, Cody Bower and Demetrius Singelton are unsure about heading to Cody’s family farm for Christmas. It’s been five years since Cody visited his family and he hasn’t told them about being bisexual or about his relationship with Demmy, his best friend since childhood. Things seem weird down on the farm, maybe it has something to do with the medical marijuana they grow! Soon Cody’s father goes missing after a car crash and Cody and Demmy catch sight of a Big Foot—is it the real thing or just related to the horror film being filmed around town?
This series features enjoyable supernatural romance, light on the supernatural and heavy on the romance. We hardly send any time with the Big Foot creature but loads of time navigating Cody’s family’s feelings and his coming out. There’s never any world building and no explanations about the creatures powers or why any of them exist in this ostensibly normal world, they just do. We also never encounter the same creatures twice. Here we are introduced to loads of Cody’s family but don’t get to know them very well. So if that’s ok, then you’ll probably love this series. 🎧 I’ve listened to many hours of US voice actor Zachary Zaba’s audio narrations, he’s fine but can sound rushed or off-hand at times.
Cody and Demmy happy and content in their relationship and are celebrating their first Thanksgiving together as a couple. They invite some familiar old friends to join them and are winding down afterwards when Cody receives a call from his mother. She wants him to celebrate Christmas with the family back in Colorado so Cody takes Demmy along for the ride. After all, he doesn't want to be apart from his boyfriend during their first Christmas together.
It's a little strange for Cody being back in the family home after 5 years and he has to deal with all his brothers including his conservative and homophobic brother. He is shocked when he discovers his parents are growing weed in the greenhouse. It's all very legal as one brother reassures him but he is still shocked. Then his father disappears in a car accident with all the signs pointing to Big Foot. Not only do they have to deal with Cody's family and the local cops, both men have to deal with a film crew in the woods and a Big Foot actor getting in their way. Cody comes out to his family in a surprising manner and most of his family (with the exception of one brother) are accepting and supportive. From smoking weed, dealing with his nieces and nephews, and finding out that his parents have an unusual relationship, Cody and Demmy are in for another adventure. The ending was perfect and ended on a great note for Book 6.
Cody and Demmy are solid and stronger than ever, and off to spend Christmas with Cody's family in Colorado. In the past, they've always managed to attract the strange and unusual cases, and this holiday is set to be no different. When Cody's Dad mysteriously disappears, of course it naturally leads them to Bigfoot... and somehow to a stunt-man who is hilariously terrible with directions. On top of that, Cody has to deal with coming out to his family and the mixed reactions he receives, as well as his parents' odd behaviour, and his many nieces and nephews. At least he has Demmy to help him get through it. I think the author did a wonderful job of building up their relationship for a few books first because at this stage, the support and love they have for one another just feels so real and perfect. They truly belong together, and I am glad this was was so well reflected in the writing. The ending especially made me squeal out loud!
Screams of the Season is the fifth book in the Critter Catchers series by Hank Edwards. Cody and Demmy do the Holidays with Cody's family and are met with the mysterious disappearance of his father, some split reactions on their new relationship status from the siblings, and some big secrets about his parents' lifestyle. Of course, being the paranormal magnets they seem to be, there is a suspicious and mysterious figure lurking about, ramping up the worry over the older Mr. Bower.
This wonderful addition to the serious delivers more suspense, more humor and a great dose of love, both romantic and family love. I am loving Demmy and Cody and this series more and more with each book. I can't wait to read more.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation. .
This is another great installment in a fabulous series. Cody and Demetrius are settling into living together, when Cody's mother asks him to come home for Christmas. It's been five years since he's been home, and Cody is relieved when Demmy offers to go with him. The family knows Demmy as Cody's childhood friend, but will they be ready to accept him as Cody's lover? The Bowers family are a mixed bag of funny, crazy, accepting, and intolerant characters. I love watching Cody and Demmy become even closer as a couple as they deal with family drama, searching for Cody's missing father, and dealing with run-ins with Sasquatch. There is adventure, love, and marijuana-enhanced fooling around in the mountains of Colorado. I love this so much, and I'm ready for the next book, so I can see what this adorable couple has in store for them next. This series is a definite highlight of my 2019 reads!
With two to go, I think this is my favorite book in the series. YES, I know there are 8, but I think the last one follows another couple and I don't know if I'll read it. The sense of humor returns to this series, as the last one was a bit angsty.
The boys go to Cody's house to celebrate Christmas. Cody's family is peculiar. They grow plants that make you laugh (I don't know if I can write here what it really is, but you know what I mean). Cody has a bunch of siblings, most of whom I have liked, and nieces and nephews. Cody hasn't come out to his family yet, but he seems to have learned something from the previous book.
The situation is complicated by the fact that Cody's father disappears in an area where Bigfood lives. Cody's mother takes her husband's disappearance in stride, I guess it's because of the plants they grow.
Critter Catchers Demmy and Cody are visiting Cody’s family in Colorado for Christmas. The family is not aware that Cody and Demmy are romantically involved. Things are very strange when they get to Cody’s family’s home. For starters his parents and one brother have gone into the marijuana growing business. Then they find out that Cody’s dad’s truck ran off the road and he is missing. When Cody and Demmy do a bit of investigating it looks like this might be one of their special kinds of cases. The book is fun and full of humor and heart. I love that when Cody told his family that he and Demmy were a couple everyone except a homophobic brother was so supportive. The ending of the book will put a smile on your face. I can’t wait to read more Critter Catchers adventures. Highly recommended.
I listened to the audiobook. Narrator Zachary Zaba does a great job bringing the story to life.
Demmy and Cody go to Colorado to spend Christmas with Cody’s large family. The night they arrived Cody’s father has an accident and disappears. As usual, the boys fall into a rabbit hole again. A Bigfoot size footprint and fur fibers send them on a Sasquatch hunt. Crazy family, Christmas shopping, a pot farm, and some really good weed give them the weirdest Christmas ever.
I have so enjoyed this series. The messes the guys get into seem to be so logically accidental . The progression of their relationship has been fun to read. The stories are well written, fast paced and have kept me entertained.
Recipe for the perfect Critter Catchers Christmas.
Cody and Demmy. (Naturally!) Going to Colorado for the holidays to meet Cody's large family. (Eep!) Cody's fathers disappearance. A set of Bigfoot tracks. A stuntman with a lousy sense of direction. A cop with a lot of secrets. Christmas shopping with the nieces and nephews. Some prime Grade-A herb.
Throw in some mystery, mayhem, and more twists and turns than a roller coaster, and you get this fantastic, hilarious, grab-you-by-the-feels, smoking hot, charming, snarky, delightfully different, and totally awesome tale guaranteed to leave you laughing.
Cody and Demmy are going strong as a couple. They have moved in together and are loving their life. So of course you know what has to hit the fan! On a holiday trip to see Cody's family they are forced to deal with yet another strange case. This one involves the disappearance of Cody's dad. Along with this they are dealing with the consequences of Cody coming out to his family, which is met with mixed reactions. This installment is full of love, humor, mystery and so much more. I can't get enough of these guys!
One of the reasons I was so happy that the final book in the series was out in time for Christmas is so that I could listen to Screams of the Season. It is a little different than the others, probably because of the holiday theme, and is more about family dynamics than monster hunting. Hank doesn't scrimp on the twists and turns or laughs, though. I think Cody is going to be scared for life after the visit! Add in a wild run through the woods of Colorado and it's the perfect dysfunctional family, monster hunting Christmas. Hearing it all play out was a treat.
Cody and Demmy had home to Cody’s family for Christmas. They find a house full of people; Cody’s brother has started a cannabis greenhouse and Cody’s dad has gone missing. Luckily for the family Cody and Demmy have a bit of a clue what might have happened. My favorite scene is Demmy in the greenhouse with Cody’s mom. My favorite character is Augustin – who wouldn’t want to hang out with a want-to-be sasquatch actor! This was a delightful tale with great dialog! Love this series! Looking forward to moving on to the next book!
This is the fifth book in The Critter Catchers Series. The characters were developed and likeable. Cody Bower and Demetrius Singleton are the MC’s of this book. I didn’t care for this book. Where previous books had unique ideas this one didn’t. The ideas went everywhere and never flowed into continuance events that made a story. There are some good moments and that is the only reason I don’t mark this lower than 3 stars. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
Another great book in the series, now the plot included familiar drama, another urban legend encounter and a mystery that needed to be solved. Cody and Demetrius kept getting stronger as a couple with every adventure they live together, confirming every time that they are one for each other. And the last scene is...just...perfect... Nice reading to spend a good time these Holidays!! I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion
Still not one of my favorites but I was happy to see more progression with Cody & Demmy especially at the end. It was cool to meet his family and several things made me laugh. I felt like his worries announcing news and their reactions were realistic I felt like one other family aspect was silly but oh well. This was my least favorite monster though and I felt like it wasn’t a very satisfying resolution. But overall I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book.
Cody mom wants him to visit for Christmas but he doesn't plan to do it without Demmy. Once there things become chaotic when Cody' s father is in an accident and comes up missing. Not only do they find themselves dodging questions about their relationship they find themselves dodging Bigfoot while trying to find Cody's dad. Some great laughs and amazing ending bring this story together.
This book, Fifth book in the series, although different from the others was still quite good. This story concentrated a little less on the monsters and more on the family dinamics. I was nice seeing Cody's reactions to his family and their relationships. There was still plenty of awesome B monsterness though. The banter and humor is still ever present as well.
Oh, what's better than a family Christmas? Particularly when your mother forgets that you were coming, you find that one of your brothers is growing cannabis with your parents help, your other brother shows his ugly homophobic self and your father's truck is found off the road with none trace of him but with some serious clues that there must be something monstrous behind his disappearance.
Yeah, not your usual fluffy Christmas' story *laughs*
This story had a lot of light notes mixed in with some serious things when Cody’s father goes missing. The blurb really says what you need to know about the story. I’m just going to say how much I loved getting to meet Cody’s family even if some of them were not really nice and/or accepting of his relationship with Demmy. Zachary Zaba does a great job with distinctive voices but something about his delivery is a little off for me – not enough to make me want to read this with my eyes, though. 😊
I really enjoyed seeing Cody and Demetrius in this book. Seeing them be a real couple without the concerns in the last book really made me love them in this one. Going to visit Cody's family was definitely an adventure in itself, but his dad missing and a possible Bigfoot made my holiday.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
