Pig and Twig are playing Princess. Pig gets three wishes. But she wants more! This fun photographic easy-to-read story features the short "i" vowel sound. Kane Press's new series of super simple easy-to-reads, Bright Owl Books, launches with Molly Coxe's five photographic stories, which feature the short vowel sounds and are each only around 100 words. These irresistibly silly stories help kids learn to read through repetition and by teaching the basic building blocks of reading--vowel sounds--giving kids the perfect start on educational success.
Polly and Pig are playing princess but in reality, Pig is playing Princess and Polly is doing whatever Pig says because Pig is not letting Polly have a turn at being the Princess. Polly finally has enough and walks away leaving Pig with no one to play with. When Pig comes to Polly’s house to say she’s sorry, Polly wants her turn to be the Princess.
This is a Short Vowel Adventure which is a good book for beginning readers, as it highlights the short “i” sound. The length of the text is short on each two-page spread but the writing is big and bold for beginning readers. I, myself, don’t care for these types of illustrations. There is something about them, that I don’t like. The whole “staged” look just doesn’t do anything for me. 4 stars
Beginning readers like stories that are fun to read, but not too challenging. This series is a good choice. This entry in the "Short Vowel Adventure" series focuses on the short vowel sound of the letter "i." Two friends, a pig and a mouse, are playing. Pig is the princess and gets three wishes, but when it's Twig's turn, Pig keeps making wishes. Finally Twig quits. Pig regrets her actions and asks for forgiveness, and the two friends play on, together. The story is fun and well-written and would provide a successful experience for beginning readers with short words, a simple plot, and plenty of repetition. What makes this series stand out, however, are the illustrations. They are crisp and colorful staged photographs with adorable old-fashioned stuffed animals. I mean, c'mon--a mouse in an adorable 60's style striped dress and a pig in an overly-ornamented princess outfit? What's not to love! There is much here to see, and young readers will enjoy both reading the simple tale, and exploring the delightful pictures.
This was an incredible awesome read! The illustrations cover the full page and are colorful enough with the cutest characters to catch and hold your attention! The stories are cute, simple, clever and short enough for young readers to wade through themselves or for reading by an adult maybe at nap time or bed time! At the end of the book, to encourage your imagination the author leads with a sentence that you can make your own story up! Books will be read and re-read many times as the children actually learn their vowels, without even knowing they’re doing it! Wish we had had books like this when I was little! Most enjoyable, even had me laughing out loud and thinking of what my story would be!
Princess Pig is one of the books in the Brave Mouse Readers Short Vowel Adventure that your children will absolutely love. The characters are precious and the illustrations are detailed and well thought out. The sandwich in the book looked like a healthy choice we would make for our family. We liked that it teaches your children that it is important to reciprocate with others, especially if you value a relationship. Princess Pig teaches your children this important lesson. The short vowel adventure also teaches them to read. Last but not least, the story starter at the end of the book really gets the children thinking and talking.
Princess Pig learns the value of a good friend in this beginning reader. The best part of this isn't that there is a moral to the story (which is somewhat rare in the genre), but the fact that the reader is also learning a particular vowel sound as they read. This particular story focuses on the sound of "i" in pig. So the early reader is learning how to read, learning how to be a good friend, and all with fabulously created illustrations. I loved the little felted creatures and their "real object" scenes that are photographed in such a appealing way.
I read this book with a student who needed extra help reading. The book focuses on the short "i" sound. Princess Pig has beautiful pictures that are attention getting and full of color! The characters are fun and the story even has a moral to it. (Children should take turns) The text repeats words often to help the reader remember words he or she just read, which is great for new readers! It really helped my student. It has lots of fun short "i" words as well. I would recommend this series, the BraveMouse Readers series, to any child learning the vowel sounds.
Super cute illustrations are only part of what makes this book great. Your child will read the story and not realize they are learning new sounds, words, and characteristics to be a better person. The colorful illustrations will encourage your child to use their imagination and add additional details to the storyline. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a child who is learning to read.
Part of the BraveMouse series. This book features the short vowel, "I." Pig and mouse are playing together and pig wants to be the princess. She asks for more and more wishes, and her friend, Twig, finally decides enough is enough. The characters are charming, bright, colorful illustrations. Tiny felted animals dressed in handmade clothing, all add to the appeal of the book. Limited vocabulary with the emphasis on short vowel "i" make for a very enjoyable read. Suitable for young children.
Reading made fun for kids of ALL ages! I love that this book is educational but it isn't. Meaning that you learn something from it but it doesn't feel like you are learning it. The pictures are out of this world- so detailed and perfect for the story. Whether you have a little girl or boy or both, they will love reading this book.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
My kindergartner has read this to me 3 nights in a row. She's very proud of herself for reading it herself and has gotten much better each time. The illustrations are adorable and the story is very cute. Overall perfect for an early reader.
This is a great book for reading to young children, and for children learning to read. Colorful pictures, simple easy words, and rhymes. I wish this had been out about 7 years ago!
