When I bought this, I actually really thought that this was a companion book compiling character descriptions and world building of L’Engle’s #scifi series as it has an intricate universe as well.
I’m still not sure what this is. It’s a novel, maybe a retelling of the first novel, but in a different point of view? It has illustrations which added a more childish whimsical feel to it.
The book is short and easy to read. The author captured at least the essence and lessons of the original. However, some of my favorite scenes were not here. This looks like another take on the novel through perspectives of different characters and lightly tackling the plot leaving out some.
I enjoyed it just for the nostalgia and being reminded of how good the original book was. I’m still not sure if this is necessary as the original can still stand today.
So if you want a quick read or if your kids weren’t able to read yet the same level as the original, maybe this one is recommended. But still, I highly recommend the original on its own.
I think this is a great book because it doesnt have too many pictures, so we can use our imaginations but it has a few pictures to keep track of the story. Another good thing about this book is it is very detailed and explains enough for the reader to understand what happens, and because when you start reading it gets intresting so it attracts you to keep reading till the end.
Pretty pictures but otherwise not what I was expecting. I'd hoped from the title that this book would delve more into the science behind the original book and the movie. Instead it's more of a simplified version of the plot. I'll still give to my grandson, but not in hopes he will learn from it.
