Extra Confessions Of A Working Girl

Rate this book
Miss S continues her revealing memoirs in Extra Confessions of a Working Girl. Having left behind the sauna where she was top girl, Miss S moves to London to start work as a stripper. But after one of the other dancers burns her in the back with a cigarette, she decides to try her hand at something new. It's in an escort agency that Miss S finds her true vocation, and where she encounters a colourful cavalcade of clients, including Mr Fingers and Mr Slimeball, to name just two. Packed with yet more eye-opening and true stories of what really goes on behind the scenes in the sex industry, including fetish clubs and swinging parties, Extra Confessions of a Working Girl is another addictive read written by one honest, feisty and fiercely independent lady - the illusive Miss S. Miss S started working as a paid companion when she was a student, working in a brothel. Witty, intelligent and ambitious, Miss S knows how to achieve what she wants in a job that she loves... and that she's very, very good at. She now works independently in London.

I must be the most naive person in the world to start this book not expecting smut.
I got it as a "blind date with a book" because the premise sounded interesting - and whilst it really is interesting to read about sex work, I was expecting a mild plot at least, as I didn't realise that it was more non fiction.
The book is memoir interspersed with info dumps about the trade.
I haven't read the original book, so I didn't know what to expect here. It was definitely interesting, though, I'm glad Layla was brought in more as the book went on, and I've definitely learned at least six things.

Review from when I read the memoir four years ago:

My biggest issue here is that I understand that Miss S sleeps with/does other sexual things with men for money. However, I am opposed to the fact that she sleeps with married men, by choice, while off the clock. It is one thing to just do her job and not ask questions, but this was too much for me.

I appreciate most the tips at the back. Any sexually active woman can benefit from knowledge of preventive measures.

It disappointed me how much unsavory sex she partook. I guess quality lays do occur in monogamy? Miss S. seems a moderately satisfied hooker.

This book was very so-so for me...There were some entertaining and funny parts, but I found myself getting bored with it all by the end.

I’m not even done—on page 253 of 276. And I have just not enjoyed this book. It’s poorly written—the author gives people nicknames and sometimes just describes them by hair colour or clothing, and it becomes incredibly hard to follow without getting caught up in just tracking what’s been read. On top of that, much of the writing is lacking in grammar that makes it easy to understand, and I have, on multiple occasions, found myself rereading a passage that made no sense, only to discover that there were words missing that might be fine missing from spoken word, but not from writing.

The author gives a lot of unnecessary details that do not add to the story at all. I suspect she is retelling it like it happened, but all it does is confuse the reader.

It’s fine. I wouldn’t read it again, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend against it.

The book felt nonchalantly informative and descriptive, and ironically, unexciting. My interpretation of authoress' attitude towards her professional and personal life and her overall personality is what I liked the best in/through this book. She seemed quite adaptable but one who liked to live life on her own terms. Live and let live.
All in all I would not really recommend this book unless you are stuck somewhere for hours with nothing to do.

I admit, I picked this book up for super cheap at a book sale, so I went into it expecting just a tawdry little read, which essentially it is. At first, I thought the author was just another working girl not nearly as witty as those who have written tell-all books before her, just looking to cash in; but once she found her stride it somehow seemed to work. It's quite the dirty little book; the majority of it is sex, as may be obvious, and less about the woman herself. It's not nearly as endearing as the popular Secret Diary of a Call Girl or as engrossing as the rarely-heard-about Mistress, however. Also, a lot of her clear biases show--she does not like dominating men, and paints the only ones in her book as either nondescript average guys or, in a harrowing scene, as someone who borderline rapes her. Granted, a lot of men are this way, and perhaps all of her experiences with dominant men have been this way; who can say. She also has a very low opinion of strippers, which she is not shy about hiding in the first part of the book; all the ones she knows are either prostitutes outright, or 'those who insist they are dancers' as if they were somehow in denial of being in the sex trade (as of course, all people in the sex trade should just get it over with and all be hookers, because hey, it'll come to that anyway).

In short, if you read this book looking to be scandalized and offended, you will be.
If you read this looking for sex, not all of it good sex, you'll find it.
If you read this looking to laugh, or endear yourself to the author...you'll probably be disappointed.

This book is rather enjoyable, I haven't read the other book that Miss S has written but I picked this one up anyway.
The good thing is it doesn't appear to matter too much if you have read the other book or not, it's easy to get into.
Of course this book isn't exactly something someone would read if they didn't want to have lots of sexual experiences in their book and obviously this has it, not with the delicate wording either but full on explaning of what she is doing and why she does it.
The author is rather like-able too, the way she explains things is rather nice, letting you into her world and seeing what she goes through, also seeing how much she makes in a day!
But it's not all just about sex though, she also talks about her job and her moves from one to the other, also other things outside her work.

I would read this book again, it was a good light read - oddly enough - and lets up glimpse into the world that she is in.

This book rocked. It also made me blush whenever I was reading it in public (which was most of my time commuting to and fro work). Miss S holds nothing back and her tales of being an escort in London will make you giggle, gasp and rethink any preconceived notions you may have about working girls. Now I need to go backwards and read the first book in this series!

Warning: This book is not for the easily offended, the young, or the prude. It's graphic and all about sex.

This book was better than the first, though only by half a star. So I rated this 2 and a half stars and round it down to 2.

A little more happens in this book, but I just don't think her story is especially interesting to me - she's a dependable and hard worker in the sex industry and since when was 'dependable' an interesting character trait?

Sadly, it's badly edited.
Miss S is an escort, not an author, and the book has no direction, chapter titles and subheadings are used at random and there is no regularity.
I admit I haven't read the first book.
Sure, it's a topic we don't know much about, making it interesting, but there is nothing beyond initial intrigue about the job. No humour, not particularly well written.

Having read all of Belle de Jour's books this subject matter was not new to me but I enjoyed having it written about in a very different style, didnt like it quite as much as Belle's books but no the less enjoyed the honest experience of the job and all the amusing moments included.
