Why did I bookcross this ? Having lived most of my life when the news was dominated by the war in Ireland, this book was very interesting as a Scottish young person the war was very much in mind about how far people can be pushed before they take up arms against the oppressor. Not coming from a part of Scotland affected by sectarianism, a very central belt thing, I questioned both "sides" equally.
When the Good Friday agreement came it brought hope. This book detailed the events leading up to that day in history and the agreement which was under threat by brexit. A must for anyone who lived that time and for those who never knew.

excellent examination of the first part of the peace process in northern irelsnd. unfortunately, it finishes when the IRA ceasefire abruptly with the huge lorry bomb at Canary Wharf. So it misses out on George Mitchell and the decommissioning of terrorist arms and explosives. Mo Mowlam in the H Block with the UDA and UDF headbangers. All the energy of the Blair government and that twat Alistair Campbell.

So it misses out rather a lot which didn't realize was going to happen until I got to the end of the book. I would have been.5 stars otherwise.
