The Flight Risk cozy mysteries are a cute adventure series involving two strangers who join together for a journey of a lifetime. How often does a wealthy person offer a regular person unlimited travels? It’s never happened to me. LOL The author transports the readers to exotic locations.
Pauline and Kendell are enjoyable as the protagonists. It's amazing how quickly they became friends. They even added another person to their group with Lil. When she agreed to accompany the twosome on their trip, she had no idea what she was getting into. She certainly never expected to be accused of murder.
It’s a light-hearted mystery with much humor throughout the book. It’s a short story which is filled with possibilities. Any of the suspects were viable killers. I found it intriguing trying to figure out whodunit. All the clues are there, but it’s all about putting it together correctly. I did not :)
This is the perfect series to read between longer books. It was a wonderful way to spend my weekend.
Kendall and Pauline go on a safari to Kenya. Unfortunately a murder occurs and they end up having to solve the mystery. Enjoyable as always. Can’t wait to read more by this outstanding author.
The Flight Risk Cozy Mystery Series is a funny, entertaining series with a couple of interesting main characters: Pauline and Kendell. Pauline is a feisty, older woman from Georgia, USA, and her sidekick is a confident, young woman from NY. Add a pocket pup that barks at the wrong times and you get entertaining stories to read on their journey around the globe. P.S.: Pauline isn't senile, she's quaint and smart. 4 stars
Murder at Macbeth #1 - Funny, entertaining. I had stopped reading Ms. Harper for a few months and wanted to try this series. I enjoyed this book, the storyline and certainly the characters: Pauline and Kendell. There's a little bit of everything in this story, including a nod to Jackie Chan. While the morgue scene was a bit unrealistic, it still worked, and the rest of the story is entertaining. The Bobbies take a bit of beating with their lack of investigating. 4 stars
A Killing in Kenya #2 - The story picks up on the plane ride from London to Kenya. This story is funnier and has more adventures than Murder at Macbeth. Added to the mix is flight attendant friend Liv and many fun animals. Well written with interesting dialog and an intriguing plot, along with plenty of humor and adventure. It was interesting to read about game reserves and legal hunting of endangered animals; whether this is true or not, it makes sense. Entertaining and quick to read. My favorite of the first four in the series. The next stop: Hawaii. 4 stars
Homicide in Hawaii #3 - The story starts as the plane takes off from Nairobi, Kenya. I don't care too much reading books set in HA, but this one is OK. Not as fast paced as the first two books, it was still interesting and quick to read. The main characters are getting better rounded, the dialog is still realistic and no stupid formula. The trio is joined by another flight attendant Brandon. Included are previews for a couple of books. The next stop: Peru via Texas. 3 stars
Trouble in Texas #4 - This story starts as the plane takes off from Hawaii on the way to Peru with a stop in Texas. Storms and a tornado keep the trio near Dallas. This book isn't my favorite, a lot of things felt off. While slow moving, the story was interesting while some of the dialog and actions were off. Kinda halfhearted stereotyping, which that's been done in the other books but those felt honest and playful (not meant to insult - just tease). With old school/native Texans, there's no wearing hats or work gloves in the house, so when one of these articles was continuously worn without comment by others, that was unreal. The next stop: Mississippi. 3 stars
This is the first book by this author that I have read but I actually enjoyed it so it won't be my last. My only complaint was it didn't see very long. In fact it I had realised it was only a hundred and six pages I probably wouldn't have bothered, as I don't like novellas but then I would have missed out on this little adventure. I love it when authors set there mysteries in unusual places and settings, especially when reading you feel like you have been transported there and this series is set up to take the reader on a lot of interesting and exotic locations. I liked the characters, especially the feisty and very capable Pauline and I didn't feel like I missed any history between the characters by joining the series at book two. There wasn't a big suspects list and no twists but to be honest I was just entranced and hooked by the location. I think I will have to join Pauline and Kendell on another adventure. When Pauline asked Kendell to join her on a around the world tour as her companion, Kendell cashes in her holiday time and packs her bags for Kenya. When they met up with fellow flight attendant Lil who is at a loss end waiting for her next trip, they ask her to join them. The three friends and Pauline's dog head to Giraffe manor for the weekend, to sight see, rest and relax. Instead of just getting woken up by nosy giraffes tongues they discover a dead body. When Lil is accused of the murder she makes a break for it, braving the jungle to get to the embassy, leaving behind Kendell. Can Kendell help her friend by finding the real killer? Or is her friend going to remain hunted?
This is book two in what has become another favorite series! A fast paced mystery that is a page turner and also makes you laugh! In book one we meet the main characters. Kendell is a flight attendant on international flights and Pauline a retired widow who decided she wanted to see the world. Circumstances being what they were, Kendell took vacation leave to travel at the invitation of Pauline. They fell into a murder in London which they helped solve and now they moved on in their travels to Kenya. They are staying at a very exclusive hotel on a giraffe preserve with other tourists. And Kendell's flight attendant friend, Lil, just happened to be working the flight to Kenya so good natured Pauline invited her to vacation with them at the hotel. Things were going really well, they had fun on their safari tour until one of the guests is murdered and Lil just happened to be in the room holding what seemed to be the murder weapon. Now Pauline and Kendell must solve another murder to save their friend from an unfriendly Kenyan jail. There are so many twists and turns and funny and crazy mistakes that end up helping them in their investigation and helpful to the detective that is finally assigned to the case. I absolutely love this series and can't wait for the next adventures of Pauline and Kendell! I received an ARC but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
A Killing In Kenya, the second book in Susan Harper's new Flight Risk Cozy Mystery Series, was challenging to solve - thanks to a few well placed red herrings - but I am not head over heels in love with amateur sleuths Pauline and Kendell. I'm just not able to buy into the author's idea that these two woman meet on a flight to London and when the plane lands decide over the next few days to travel the world together - one of the women being a retired airline stewardess with money to burn the other an airline stewardess with vacation days to burn. Seriously, who in their right mind would agree to travel with a stranger? I'd be especially wary knowing the other party was paying all the expenses. Putting aside Pauline and Kendell's awkward (at least it is awkward to me) jump in their relationship of airline stewardess and passenger to traveling the world companions I found the book entertaining and would reccomend it to other cozy fans.
This book continues the adventures of flight attendant Kendall and retired world traveller Pauline following their escapades in London. Unfortunately for me this book suffers from the same fault as the previous one, in that it is so improbable as to strech the bounds of credibility way beyond breaking point.
For example Pauline is accompanied by a small dog, yet at one point she has 'borrowed' a safari jeep and fallen asleep in a game reserve and woken up to find a lion on the bonnet of the car, yet the dog doesn't react at all, and neither does the lion attempt ot make a snack of the dog. On the subject of the dog, we are supposed to believe that Pauline managed to get through all the security at one of Londons airports to takke the dog into the cabin in her bag.
So, I am sorry, but there are just too many of this type of error to make the book enjoyable, and not even the good characters and the humour can compensate.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book.
Kendell and Pauline are on their way to Kenya. Kendell's friend Lil is a flight attendent also and is invited to go with them. Everything is going great until they go on a safria. There a couple of other person's get into an arguement about one of them going big game hunting. Later that night Lil goes down to the kitchen to get a snack before bed. There she finds Zachariah on the floor with a broken coffeepot beside him The Jahi sees her and calls the police. They want to arrest her, thinking they have everything all done without investigating. Lil takes off into the woods, and then Pauline leaves to help her get to the U.S. Embassy. Can Pauline get Lil there or will they both be thrown in jail? Will the real killer be found and why? You will need to read the book to find out. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book.
Next stop, Kenya! Pauline very kindly invites Lil, Kendell's friend to join them in Kenya as Pauline has already booked an enormous suite, room enough for all of them. Lil decides to take her up on her offer, as she has a few days holiday owing and the trio are off to Giraffe Manor, an old mansion converted into a luxury hotel. It was an amazing adventure until one of the guests turns up dead. Zachariah, a big game hunter, manages to rub everyone the wrong way but it was Lil who finds the body, after picking up the jug that was used to beat him to death, which puts her top of the suspect list, as far as the police is concerned. Kendell and Pauline now have a race against time to prove her innocence before she is thrown into prison in Nairobi.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rhinos, lions, and giraffes - Oh my! There was so much craziness packed into this little book. It was a fun ride. I really liked the inclusion of an American of color. Cozies need to have more color in them! There was discussion about people of color, so it made Lil seem like a real character. There was once it seemed to get a bit preachy, but overall it was very well done. The side characters of a big game hunter, an animal activist, a tech businessman, the manor hosts, embassy workers, and the president's son were a wonderful menagerie of people. The conclusion to the mystery reminded me of Dame Agatha. I loved getting to know Kendell and Pauline. I look forward to seeing them in Hawaii. A great setting, fun characters, and a good mystery! You won't regret this one.
This is a the second edition of Susan Harper's new series Flight Risk. It's so much fun. Kendell's a flight attendant who is on a month long vacation with Pauline, a nice, rich older southern lady. They are on their way to Kenya after leaving London. Kendell's friend Lil is working as an attendant on their plane and they ask her to join them. They arrive at the Giraffe Manor ( an old colonial mansion) tired and ready for bed, only to be woken up in the morning with a Giraffe poking her head in their window. Then there's a murder an Lil's accused of it. Kendell and Pauline put their heads together to prove their friend innocent and find the guilty party. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A Killing in Kenya is the 2nd book in the Flight Risk Cozy Mystery series by Susan Harper.
This story took Pauline, Kendall, Dot, and a friend of Kendall’s to Kenya.
The description of the resort made me want to hop on a plane and go stay there. Sharing breakfast with the giraffes sounds like fun.
The second leg of the trip and other murder. It was an interesting story with twists and turns and it was fun seeing how it all wrapped up. I’d love to have a friend like Pauline to go on adventures with.
I again had concerns in this book about how the characters interacted with local officials. It seems that it is bad to react the way they did in the US, let alone a foreign country.
I received this book as a gift and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
First book by this author I have read and It is was quick and easy to read. The main characters have only recently just met. The older character Pauline, is in her senior years, retired and very wealthy touring around the world. She met Kendall who was the flight attendant on her plane from America to London. They got on so well Pauline asked Kendall is she fancied joining her on her travels. Kendall, who never seems to have time off work, took up the offer. Their first trip is to Kenya at the well know Giraffe Manor where one of the guest is murdered. The pair take in on themselves to try and solve the case. This series of books is all about there adventure's together solving mysteries on the way.
I really like this series. In this one, Kendall and Pauline are on their way to Kenya. They run into one of Kendall's friends on the flight and she has a few days off so Pauline insists that she come along with them. Unfortunately this turns out to be a big mistake on her part and she is dropped right into a murder. While Pauline tries to keep the police from arresting her, Kendall works very hard to clear her name
Pauline and Kendell set off to their next adventure in Kenya. They invite fellow flight attendant Lil to join them for the weekend. So much fun learning about other countries and their cultures. The descriptions of the hotel and wild life are amazing. Makes you feel like you are there. Can't wait to see where their next adventure takes place.
Love this book. Pauline and Kendell are great characters. Kendell’s friend Lil was funny and a good addition to the story. This series is so good, I had to keep reading until the end. Could not put the book down. A very entertaining mystery story, you will be glad you tried it. Ms. Harper is a very talented writer and her books are totally worth reading.
What a beautiful setting for a new mystery. A different peak into the animal "sanctuary". But on with the story. Lil is in trouble and Kendell and Pauline need to figure out what is happening. Kendell and Pauline devise a cute way to get some answers and find a way to help the local police to solve the murder. Read for a quick get-away from life's routine.
As Pauline and Kendall head to part two of their world trip, Kendall’s friend Lil joins them for the Nairobi stop. They stay on a Giraffe sanctuary and Li and behold are embroiled in another murder! Can Kendall solve the murder and save Lil from the horrible prison there? A great read!
Second book in the series and just as captivating as the first. Kendall and Pauline are joined by Lil, an air hostess that works with Kendall. Staying in Giraffe manor where the giraffes wander inside for food to a safari. A murder takes place and Lil is blamed so Kendall and Pauline work to clear her name. Very entertaining read
Kendall and Pauline's fun adventures at the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, Kenya turns into a desperate flight to safety for their friend, Lil, as she is accused of murdering a fellow guest. This lively story is filled with elderly Pauline's sagely wisdom, insight and clever schemes. It was fast-paced and a very entertaining read!!!!
Safari in Africa, a dream of a trip for Pauline and Kendall, then murder happened to one in the group. Now to solve so they can enjoy the rest of their time in Africa. Good characters, especially with Pauline, older and has a feisty side to her. Good enjoyable reading.
I love when Kendall and Pauline get into these situations. It is fun loving and fast reading these series. So looking forward to the next one Homicide in Hawaii. Great writing Susan, keep writing these cozy mysteries.
This is the second book in the series featuring Kendal and Pauline. Pauline is a wealthy widow who has invited Kendal, an air stewardess, to travel with her. Pauline is an exciting character, elderly and always up for an adventure. They both seem to attract trouble.
Boy, Kendall and Pauline sure know how to get mixed up in some very entertaining capers! I am enjoying their vacation almost as much as if I was with them! I love this series!
Great plot so Agatha Christie, location great Kenya, and characters solid and flush out. This is the second book in this series, if you like to travel this is the book for you.
