The Love Book

Rate this book
What on earth is love, anyway? And why does everyone think it’s so great when all it does is make you blush and babble nonsense? With quirky line drawings and forthright charm, The Love Book disarmingly answers universal questions about the most elusive subject around. Ranging from crushes to marriage, from love of pets to love of God, the author reveals her sensitive understanding of the thoughts, fears, and dreams about love that preoccupy people everywhere.

I liked The Death Book so I figured The Love Book would be good as well. It is, but admittedly I do prefer the former. Still, this book gives a good general overview of different ways people express and feel love and show how there are many kinds. As others have mentioned, some of the pictures include drawings of genitals (mostly in regards to procreation). That doesn’t bother me but to anyone who may be reading it to children, be for-warned in case that’s not your thing. Otherwise I like the quirky, weird illustrations!

I found a couple pages of this Love Book disturbing. It give all kinds of examples of what love is about. It showed two men hugging to show men and men can love each other. They were dressed with hats and jackets. Then they showed that two women could love each other. This was shown with two fat ladies holding hands wearing I thought bathing suit bottoms and not tops on, but just showing their sagging hanging old breasts. Like what the heck? Why did they have to be almost nude? I was stuck on that wondering then I turned the page and Oh My Gosh! They actually show anatomically correct drawing of nude men and women also with close up drawings of private parts. They then explain how to make babies actually showing an erect penis in a cut away view inside of a women. I am not a prude, and I am a senior citizen, but this is a kids book and I have never seen anything like this in my life! This just does not seem right, and I am a bit stunned.
