Mary grew up in the quiet peace of a small rural village in the heart of Quebec, Canada.

She spent her childhood chasing butterflies and catching frogs, playing in the mud and generally being as unladylike as she could. Her love of science led her to complete a mechanical engineering degree at the Ecole Polytechnique of Montreal, where she met the love of her life.

Years later, as she enjoyed the role of full time mom to her two wonderful children, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a writer.

She now write as much as her busy schedule allows to bring to life her inner world, filled with exotic planets, mysterious creatures and off course, hot, alpha heroes and the women who melt their hearts.

When she's not writing, she can be found in the garden, walking her dogs or playing with fire in her kitchen as a part time hit-or-miss chef.

CALLING ALL DRAGON FANATICS. CALLING ALL DRAGON FANATICS.
(the romance kind)

THIS IS NOT A DRILL. I REPEAT. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

Mary Auclair is a hidden gem that y'all need to look out for. This is the second series I've read by her and they're both alien sci-fis, one based on space travel with blue aliens and the other a post-apocalyptic with DRAGONS.

3.5 stars

I really liked the plot in this one. It was kinda familiar what with alien dragons invading Earth, basically infertile, war on their native world and their one and only genetically perfect matched human mates.

Disclaimer: Not a shifter romance fyi.

But that's it.
It still felt like a breath of fresh air in the genre.
even though it wasn't anything new

I'm not a fan of needless misunderstandings, so while it was acceptable in the beginning, it gets old fast. And there were a couple tstl moments but you kinda look past it for the sake of the plot progress.

But I'm definitely a believer, just two books short of reading all her works.
there're only six books who's counting :p

Sci-Fi…Dragon…GIMME GIMME GIMME! These were the thoughts that went through my head when I saw Mary Auclair’s Touch of Ice the first in her Dawn of Dragons series. In Auclair’s series Earth has been taken over by an alien race, the Delradons, who now rule over both themselves and humans. The Lords and Ladies of the Delradons have a deep bond with a dragon, which extends their life span and makes them more powerful than other members of their race. However, they have difficulty having children and so everyone is tested for generic compatibility. Those who have compatible are offered riches to mate and have children with them, the down side being that only about 50% of the women survive carrying the babies and giving birth.

This is where Endorra comes in. Endorra is desperate. Her daughter is dying, but she’s barely scraping by and can’t afford to pay for the treatments that will save her. The only thing of value she has is a letter stating her genetic compatibility to Lord Aldric Darragon; Endorra knows that if she agrees to bear his children she will be paid generously and thus be able to pay for her daughters treatments. Even if she doesn’t expect to survive the experience.

Of course, nothing is ever simple and Endorra and Aldric have an instant attraction that makes their relationship more than just a transaction. That’s where things get more complicated and interesting. Well, kind of, I really liked the idea of this book like I said: DRAGONS! ALIENS! These things make me happy. However, there are a few devices that Auclair used that drive me insane.

One of those things is miscommunication or deception when there’s no need. This is something that the heroine engages in and although at first I understood her reasons and condoned them, it got to a certain point where it no longer seemed necessary. The second thing is when a heroine does something completely stupid that endangers her and in this case her young child as well. Now, this was clearly done by the author to move the story along. However, it was completely out of character and stupid, so much so that it seems unfair to judge the heroine’s entire character on it. But I can’t help it.

But, despite these things I did enjoy this book, it had a good amount of world building and action in it as well as romance, which made it an exciting read. Perhaps this wasn’t the best start to the series, but there was enough there that intrigued me that I am looking forward to read the next book.

This is the first time I've read Mary Auclair, it won't be the last.
This may be published by Blushing books but it has no spanking in it, if that's all you want in a book you won't find it here. You will however find a wonderfully written book full of wonder. I will definitely read it again I couldn't put it down I read it in day. I can't wait for the next book.
This book was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Action-packed, Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Great world building, Happily Ever After, Original, Page-turner, Steamy, Tragic, Unpredictable, Whimsical, Wonderful characters.

DNF at 50%

Could the heroine have been any more of a brainless idiot? Nothing annoys me more than purposely miss-communicating MC's. The heroine doesnt want to be with the hero and plans to run away but gets upset when she thinks the hero is ignoring her and doesnt want her anymore. *eye roll of the decade ensures* Can we please write characters who have common sense and that talk like normal people!?

This is the second book of Mary Auclair I have read and this one I loved. This book had everything you could want in a story. Heartbreak, mystery, chemistry, anguish, and hotness.

Endora does everything she can to make sure that her very sick daughter gets the best care for her. To do that she has to go and become the bride to one of the dragon kings. She has a lot on her plate and she has to make sure that what she says and does is for the best for herself and her child. She does not have the best past when it comes to relationships, so she does not trust easily at all. So I totally understand where she is coming from.

Aldric knew who his mate was all this time. He knew that Endora had chosen someone else over him. Although Endora never knew this. He let this knowledge turn him into a cold king. When Endora decides she finally needs him, he decides he will keep her at arm's length and only get the child he so desperately wants from her.

This book is at times a battle of wills. When these two finally decide to come together for their love, it is a wonderful love story. There are also some very bad people and you can never tell who they are. Loved that.

How do you make alien invasions cooler? Add dragons! This world combines alien technology with an almost medieval magic vibe. When history starts repeating itself, its going to take a great deal of sacrifice to prevent what happened on their old planet from happening on Earth. Nice to know aliens aren't above prejudice and racial cleansing. If you like a little allusion to modern issues in your fantasy, this one is for you!

Touch of Ice, the first book in the Dawn of Dragons series by Mary Auclair had one big and some minor issues for me.
I have a hard time rating this book.

What I liked, was the overall world building. It is rare for an Alien romance book these days to have a skilled back story, with such details.
The beginning was very intriguing.
Some minor consistencies could have been avoided with a good editor.

The story relies mainly on the miscommunication of the main characters, or the lack of communication respectively. Normally, I am not a fan of those situations. It frustrates me as a reader, because the whole drama and therefore the whole book could have been avoided (was unnecessary) if they just talked to one another. At least, those are my thoughts when it comes to tongue tight people.
In my opinion, no good author depends his main storyline on miscommunication.
As a tool to further or direct a storyline, yes, but not completely.
Anyway, there were parts in this book, mainly the beginning, where it worked but afterwards it was just plainly annoying.

Which leads me to the main issue this book had.
The main female character.
It seems like not only the living conditions of the human race fell back into medieval times but also the role and behaviour of women.
The main character needed a bloody backbone, it was depressing.
I stopped counting how often she was tongue tight, choked on her words, fear struck, too paralysed to speak or decided to hold her tongue.
She complains about having minor knowledge about the new world and role she has to find her place in but not once does she do anything about it. Not once does she take initiative.

In retrospect, the book had major potential.
But it was badly executed. Especially, with the choice of the female character and her endless emotional inner monologues. Her inner thoughts were limited on pure emotional distress, unnecessary repetitions about the same emotional struggles over and over again like a broken record. The only times she showed any strength at all was when it came to maternal instincts.

So, in short, the female role in this book was reduced to maternal instincts, emotional based and ruled decisions, petulant behaviour and last but not least some missing brain cells.
It was an ancient and stereotypical point of view regarding women it was nauseating.
Especially, coming from a female author is more disappointing than anything else. I can’t be the only one who dislikes to read about such characters in this time and age.

I wasn't 100% sure what I was getting into when I picked this one up, but the fact that I liked the heroine's name really helped make my decision towards getting it, and I hoped that I would enjoy it. And I did. There's a lot that is going on in the book, and a lot to keep my attention, but not so much that I was overwhelmed trying to track everything down.

Endora's daughter Tallie is dying and she doesn't have the money to get the treatment that she needs. So she decides that she will take her compatibility report to the Delraden and the Draekon and sign the contract with her genetic match. That way she'll be able to send some money to her daughter so that she can get the treatment that she needs to have. Off she goes and shows the officials her report, and is sent off to her match, Aldric, who isn't just a Draekon Lord, he's THE Draekon Lord, the high lord for her territory. And mating him turns her into the highest ranking and most powerful woman there.

When Aldric sees Endora walk into his throne room, he's really attracted to her. But when his dragon Rhyll lets her touch him, Aldric knows that she is so much more than what he thought. She isn't just his genetic match, she's his Dragon Mate.

I am really hoping to see more of Aldric and Endora because I am so invested in their story. I need to know what comes next. If I can't get them, I would at least like more in the same world because I'm really interested in finding out what comes next. We weren't really left on a cliffhanger, but maybe more on top of a small hill we could roll down. I'd like to find out what happens on the other side of that hill.

Another good start to a romantasy series. The world building was enough to let you in on the dystopian style of future earth this series has, and added in the details as you came across them. It has dragons and bride contracts, it has villains and suspense. The bad guy seemed pretty obvious to me, but I also am suspicious of every one 😅 I couldn't understand the thought process of the FMC some of the time, some of the decisions she made didn't make sense to me. It has a tiny bit of spice, but it isn't overwhelming. Overall, a good intro to this world, and I am looking forward to coming back for more.

❤️ Tropes ❤️
💋 romantasy
💋 dragons
💋 bride contracts
💋 touch her and ☠️
💋 he falls first

Endora is out of options. Her child is sick and the human doctors say their is nothing left that they can do to save her. And she refuses to accept that. She pulls out the letter stating her genetic compatibility with the alien race that took over earth. It came 10 years ago and she wasn't interested. And now it's her only option. She will sign a bride contract with her match, and bear him an heir. It doesn't matter that it will most likely be fatal for her. It will get her grandma the money needed for her child's treatment at the hospital with the Alien technology to save her life. As long as she can hide the fact that she has a child and is *technically* married already.

*** I received a copy of this books through Netgalley from the author Mary Auclair for a honest review*** The opening scene of this book is Endora selling her only cow to pay for her daughter's doctor bill. She finds out tallie has leukemia and needs a treatment she can not afford. She must sign a mating contract with one of the aligns who turns out to be Lord Aldric and produce an heir to receive the money needed to pay for tallies treatment. I loved the characters in this book the good and the bad! The character growth and relationship growth was perfect! The world building in this book alone will keep you hooked! This was my the first book I have read by Mary Auclair but it will not be my last!

I think I found my new fav narrator! A Touch of Frost is dual pov, so I was a wondering about the solo narrator. But Traci Odom is the best!!! I really loved how she voiced all the different characters, she really brought the story to life.

This is Book 1 in the Dawn of Dragon series, and there’s a lot jam packed into this book. New universe, new magic system, what are draekons?? But I got sucked into this story so quickly. There’s drama and plenty of action, a mother’s desperation to do the best for her child, but note also moments of grief and medical issues. But overall such an exciting experience, looking forward to listening to Book 2!

Thanks to Literary Media Tours for having me on this book tour and the ALC!

Reviewed on Behalf http://bookaddict.live,
I so love getting involved in a series from the beginning. So I jumped at the chance to review a new paranormal sci- fi with hot sex thrown in. It’s a win win for me!
This series is based on earth, which is ruled by an alien race that have a problem with fertility, and only women with certain genetic match are chosen. Endora has always known she was a match but never consider the idea.
Unfortunately Tallie, Endora’s daughter has leukaemia and is fading fast. The only thing that can save her is the Alien technology, and that costs money she doesn’t have.So Endora does the unthinkable and leaves her daughter with her grandmother and goes to report in.
High Lord  Aldric Darragon rules what was America and one of the strongest of lords. What Endora doesn’t know is that Aldric had seen her years before when she was with Wilmer Tallie’s father. Aldric was enchanted, but since then he had closed his heart down.
I really enjoyed this book with action all the way. Great romance, lots of action, cute kids and nasty bad guy , all mixed together gives my an action packed adventure with great world building so we have a base for book two. I loved this book and read it in one go, So for me this series is going on my must buy list.
I’m looking forward to book two as I loved the dragons.

Touch of Ice,  Mary Auclair

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Romance, Sci-fi and Fantasy

I'd never read anything by this author but liked the sound of this. I really wanted to like it but...TBH it was a little too simplistic for me.
Endora, I get why she lied about not having children, what parent wouldn't when their child's life is at stake but I didn't understand why she lied about Wilfrid. Or why that event didn't actually seem to matter.
I though she was far too many times just TSTL. She's ready to blame Aldric for everything – even while melting in lust against him...gah! I hate that. Personal gripe though, its common in paranormal reads so clearly others don't find it an issue. She sees Wilfrid after ten years of being abandoned, no support, no help even when their child was dying and yet ignores the fact that she and the children are huge targets for bloodthirsty killers, skips out against all Aldric's instructions to keep them safe, even when last time she did that the guard almost lost his life – and that time she just wanted some fresh air. This time she thinks Tallie ought to be able to see her dad! WTH?

It's an OK story, better if you can get past Dora's stupidity and judgmental tendencies. The dragon and child thing was a good touch, and I liked Aldric and his family, and the whole dragon structure. I can see how this is going to build into a decent series if you like a kind of simple paranormal romance theme. For me I need a bit more depth, but the best sellers are dominated by books like this so obviously many readers love them, even if I want a bit more substance ;-) Horses for courses, reading taste is subjective. Just because this wasn't right for me doesn't mean others won't love it.

Stars: Three, OK but a bit light and Dora was a real Fail for me.

:: DISCLAIMER :: I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

There be dragons! Shamelessly, I will admit I am a dragon paranormal junkie.

This is not a dragon shifter romance, but it has dragons and aliens! The alien race are the Delradons. The Lords and Ladies of this race bond with dragons which strengthens them and makes them the superior rank of their race.

Keeping their race going isn't that easy. Finding matches to mate with that will lead to pregnancy has made them turn to humans. Unfortunately, 50% of the women die during child birth. Then there are those Delradons whom oppose the interracial relationships.

That's only the political drama side of this story. Because this is a romance there is luuuurve! Aaah sweet love!

It was the way he looked at her, as though the world began and ended in her arms.

I liked the love in this story. The sex was even better. Mary Auclair didn't over due it with the sex. She added just enough to let out the steam and remained classey.

There were only a couple of minor cons which I could easily overlook. Because when the book got good it overwrote the minor things. However, there were page fillers that I wished the Mary Auclair didn't do. Make the book shorter and get rid of those pesky fillers! And that cover was delish! Except, they needed to photo shop some pointy ears on the model.

Oh, this was so, so good! I'll be honest, when I decided to read this, I figured it would be a fun, easy, mindless read. And it was so much better than I could have ever guessed! Instead of a fun but overall meaningless read, I got something so special. Touch of Ice is beautifully written. This author has created a fascinating world that I cannot wait to see more of.

I read this in two sittings, and it would have been less if I didn't have to work. I loved Aldric and Endora's relationship.. and for that matter, I loved Aldric and Rhyl's relationship! I desperately want to know more about the dragons, and their relationship with their... not human.. alien, I guess? Also, I don't want to give anything away - but the ultimate villain is epic. Scary, but such a good evil.

Aldric could be a very thoughtful man at times, " ...when he broke the kiss, he touched his forehead to hers. “I am sorry, my little Dora.” He braced himself on her chair. “I want to take you right here, right now, but I have to clean up first.” I loved this book, this is going to be a series I have to one-click, well at least I hope it's going to be a series the cover does say book one.

I received a free, advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

This is the first book of the series, and it is really good. From the start up to the finish. All the elements of a good PNR book are there.

What I enjoy was the concept of the bonding of the dragons life to the human. It is a complicated matter, but at the same time, a brilliant idea. Yes, it hold danger to the human that the dragon are born with, but it is totally awesome.

I love the concept of the love story too.

I look forward to the next book of the series.

I liked the plot of the book. I was completely engrossed by the idea of alien beings coming to save us from ourselves, save the earth from our ruin (silly humans, lol) and I absolutely adore dragons so it was like a win-win.

I loved Aldric's character. I liked that he was mostly silent and broody, but his bond with Rhyl was gorgeous. I loved their fierceness, their loyalty, the danger they represented. I also liked that Rhyl was just as playful as he was deadly. I liked his possessiveness (don't judge me), I also liked that he was so adamant about protecting his family (although he took it too far). I loved that he had so much emotional depth, even though he didn't always show it.

I can't say that I actually liked Endora's character. While she had her reasons for the things she did, I felt like a lot of it wasn't warranted. I felt like once she made her sacrifice and Aldric basically told her he wouldn't let her go, she should've came clean. I didn't lie that she carried on with her lies when there was no real need to. I also didn't agree with her reasoning for leaving the castle. That just made absolutely no sense to me. With so much danger, the obvious dislike from certain people, and faced with the person who abandoned her when she needed it most, her choices were basically dumb.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, but Endora kind of ruined the total effect for me. I would still recommend it to others and I would definitely read more from the author.

Thank you to Netgalley.com and BooksGoSocial for proving me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Reading Touch of Ice: Dawn of Dragons by Mary Auclair was like taking a breath of fresh air. First, I love a good fantasy. Throw in a bit of Sci-fi and a good doze of romance and I'm so IN! This book had it all. I literally stayed up until 4:00 AM reading because I just had to know what will happen on the next page. I just needed to read another chapter - YES! It was that good... The story and world building was well done and he writing was good. I fell in love with Aldric, the High Lord... Wow - what a hottie!

Having said that... there was one thing which threw me off... Endora, our main character, was portrayed as a smart and dedicated woman. But.... toward the ending of the book, she does something really stupid which threw me off balance. No spoilers, but, there could have been a different scenario painted with Mistress Hael toward the end - that's all I'll say.... their final interaction just did not belong and did not fit well with me. Endora was smart enough to make a different choice.

Aside from this one small scene, I loved the book and truly cannot wait for the next one to be available.

I would recommend this book for upper high school grades and older. There are adult situations and explicit sexual scenes so a more mature audience is in order.

Enjoy and Happy Reading.

This book had to much death a d sadness in it. There was not enough balance between the good and bad. I'm feeling depressed after reading this book. I won't read another book from this author. The author has good imagination and pretty good story telling, but she needs to not be so negative and sad. Mary. Please don't kill children or babies of any sort in your books.

This book had to much death and sadness in it. There was not enough balance between the good and evil. I could not handle the deaths of children, baby dragons, innocent people and animals. I'm sorry Mary, but this book depressed me so much, that I can't read your stories anymore. I hope you will understand that. You are good at conveying emotion and that drew me in. I, however, can't handle the sad, depressing parts. I expect conflict, danger and intrigue to provide interest in a book. You went to far in the death of characters. I'm feeling depressed. I will get over it eventually. I can't read your stories anymore.

Closer to 3.5

The author’s storytelling voice was strong. Though I had some pointed trouble with the world building (a little shaky and important world nuances were explained too slowly which caused a few moments of confusion) the tone, the arc and the feel of this novel was enthralling. I stayed up all night reading it and wishing the next int he series were already in hand. It isn’t particularly complex, on the contrary there is a simplistic nature that belies it’s genre standard of sometimes getting bogged down in too much “stuff” and info dumping.

If you are interested, if you have even a spark of cursory interest in a new sci-fi paranormal world, Touch of Ice is a great bet and with a little more polish, Dawn of Dragons has the potential to be an irresistible, cracky little series. I am all in!

New author and new narrator ALERT for me - Audiobook Review

Endora, a desperate mother, will risk everything to save her daughter. What begins as a matter of survival for both Endora and Aldric quickly transforms into a passionate and dangerous journey neither expected.

This story captivated me until the very last moment. It begins with Lord Aldric, who desperately seeks an heir. He and his dragon, Rhyl, are inseparable—bound so deeply that their survival depends on one another. Their bond is a mystical connection and a living, breathing relationship integral to the plot. The first encounter between Rhyl and Endora, marked by complete acceptance—a rarity for a dragon—was one of the most moving moments in the story. It highlighted the depth of the saying, "A dragon's heart sees what a man's eyes cannot." From that moment, the story accelerated from zero to a thousand, revealing Endora as Aldric's one true mate.

The looming threat of the Knat-Kanassis cult, a group staunchly opposed to Draekon-human unions, escalated the tension and made Endora’s situation perilous. Her ability to mate with a Draekon put them both at risk, raising the stakes as Aldric fought not only for duty but for love. The urgency of their survival was gripping and heightened their emotional intensity.

Narration:

Traci Odom’s narration was outstanding. She brought a soft yet commanding presence to Endora while perfectly capturing Lord Aldric’s cold, stoic nature. The chemistry between them was electric from the start. The stakes felt high from the beginning, and I loved how Aldric’s slow transformation from a duty-bound warrior to a man capable of love made the romance that much more rewarding.
The world-building was rich, vividly bringing the Draekon race and Aldric’s frosty emotional world to life. The concept of a mating contract with life-altering consequences was compelling, and the balance between romance, action, and emotional vulnerability kept the pacing tight, ensuring I remained fully invested in the story.

Favorite Moment:
Dalgo, Aldric’s trusted friend, provided a calm voice of reason throughout the story. His gentle guidance helped Aldric see Endora as more than a woman fulfilling a contract but as his true mate. This element beautifully enhanced the romance, emphasizing the power of friendship and loyalty. Not only does the story explore Draekon-human mates, but it also delves into the idea of dragon mates. Rhyl and Myral, Dalgo’s dragon, are also mates, adding another layer to the exploration of Draekon and dragon connections.

Endora’s journey, from a mother willing to sacrifice everything for her daughter to a woman who gains love, family, and a powerful mate, was incredibly satisfying. Her strength, determination, and heart made her a heroine I truly rooted for. I loved Touch of Ice and didn’t want it to end. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next book in this series!

Thoughts and Plot

I am conflicted on this one. The premise of this book is nothing short of intriguing. Delradons have taken over earth, their ruling class govern both Delradons and humans alike. The Lords and Ladies of the Delradons are connected to a dragon. This grants them extended life spans and more powerful than others of their race. But they got a problem. They have serious difficulties reproducing. In an effort to bring up the number of children born to them, potential partners under go genetic testing to check their compatibility. People who are compatible with these Delradons are offered vast amounts of riches in exchange for bearing children. One problem. There is a 50% death rate.
Endorra already has a child of her own, but her daughter is sick and dying. Endorra cannot afford the treatment that will save her child’s life. So she decides to offer her ‘services’ to Lord Aldric Darragon (hope I spelled that right), who she was found to be genetically compatible with. The money earned will go to her daughter’s treatment, the one person Endorra is ready to sacrifice herself for.
That sounds pretty cool, right? Well it goes down hill in execution. Insta-lust/love fires between Aldric and Endorra, making everything more complicated. Endorra lies to Aldric, and keeps lying way past the point where she probably should have come clean. Miscommunication is abound and matched up with all the misleading Endorra’s doing, she quickly got on my nerves. Not to mention that she gets upset when she thinks Aldric is ignoring her…even though she plans to run away from him. Uh, what? If you don’t want him and plan to run away, isn’t it a good thing he’s not paying a lot of attention to you? Kinda makes running away a lot easier. Just saying.
Endorra furthers my dislike by placing herself and her child in danger completely due to her own insane stupidity. I really just want leading ladies with basic common sense. It’s not a lot to ask, is it? I don’t like it when author’s make women do completely idiotic things just to keep the plot moving forward. Not cool!
So, while the world building and premise was super cool, Endorra left me pretty cold.

Conclusion
Cool premise, excellent world building, plenty of action… stupid main character ruins the whole thing via lying and stupidity.
Harsh, I know.
Sorry.
