Cognitive Psychology

Rate this book
One of the top sellers in the field, Cognitive Psychology is the most comprehensive and balanced text in the area of undergraduate cognition. MacLin and MacLin, inheriting the textbook from the late Robert L. Solso, boldly revised and reorganized the Eighth Edition to reflect emerging trends in the field, while retaining the strengths that made it one of the most popular texts among students and professors.  All chapters have undergone a thorough revision, with special attention to updating art and examples, as well as clarifying language.  The text traces a sequential model of human cognition from sensation to perception, to attention, to memory, to higher-order cognition, and features new cutting-edge coverage of consciousness, cognitive neuroscience, memory and forgetting, and evolutionary psychology.

The authors have done an outstanding job of making very complex material accessible to students.  The text is very readable, and uses real life examples to engage students.

Thomas R. Shaffer, South Dakota State University

The main strength of this textbook is the focus on cognition in everyday life.  When students make a connection [from] the information in the textbook to their own lives, they are more apt to learn it and use it.”

Angie MacKewn, University of Tennessee at Martin

The engaging writing style and organization clearly distinguishes it from other texts.  In addition, the emphasis on neuroscientific underpinnings of cognition is a major strength, pushing this text to the forefront of research in cognitive psychology.”

David Ludden, Lindsey Wilson College,Kentucky

. i am vocally critical of a lot of text books, but i actually really liked this one. It covered most of what i wanted to know, taught me about all sorts of things i didn't know i wanted to know and was pretty darn well written. It is an intro/survey book, so don't think the ~300 pages here will make you an expert in any single field, but it puts those fields in context well and then points you to where you can get more information.

Based on this book, I decided to drop the class. The subject is not for me. I think the title is misleading - this is an overall cognitive science book, not just cognitive psychology.
