IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST SCANDALOUS AFFAIRS IN THE KINGDOM OF FRANCE’S HISTORY. AND ONE TEMPLAR KNIGHT PLAYED A PIVOTAL ROLE.
When a woman arrives at Sir Marcus de Rancourt’s new home, claiming to be a cousin of his late brother-in-law, he and his fellow Templars are forced to fight off her pursuers before knowing the truth of her crime—accusations of adultery by her husband.
Swearing she is innocent, Sir Marcus and his trusted sergeant agree to seek out the truth, while his squires remain behind to protect her. But soon after arriving in Paris, they discover that nothing is as it seems, and more is going on than they could have possibly imagined.
With over one million books sold, award winning and USA Today bestselling author J. Robert Kennedy has been ranked by Amazon as the #1 Bestselling Action Adventure novelist based upon combined sales. He is the author of over fifty international bestsellers including the smash hit James Acton Thrillers. He lives with his wife and daughter and writes full-time.
I loved the first novel in this series. This is a very unique concept, a Templar Knight who is a Detective! Kennedy initiated this very well in the first novel and this second instalment flows well from the second with not much time period in between. Book 5 is to be released at the end of May, so readers new to this series will have the added benefit of the first 5 in one go and see this series as one continuum.
Just like Kennedy's James Acton Thrillers where novel 24 has just been released, I would love to see this amount of novels in this series. I guess it all comes down to whether there are enough historical events in this era for Kennedy to base these novels on. And on this topic, I find it adds credibility and depth to the plot when it is based on actual historical events even if poetic licence is used.
I love the characterisation of Marcus' team, their camaraderie, loyalty to Marcus, the relationship they have with God, their submission to Him as part of the Templar code. Some readers, whether Christian or not do like prayer being included in a novel, but I do not have a problem with this, therefore I appreciated the short one liner prayer by Marcus and his team when their investigations put them in dire straits.
Just like the first instalment, Kennedy has you hooked to the plot in the mystery and intrigue of the events surrounding his cousin by marriage, Joanna. All is not what it seems and in true Marcus form, he is like a dog with a bone, won't stop until he gets to the truth of the matter, that leads to a very satisfying conclusion where all is explained. Just like the first, characters from this end up in this second novel and it now appears as if Joanna and Beatrice will be in the third as they are now part of Marcus's compound and community.
It would not surprise me if Thomas from the first novel and developed further in this second one will make an appearance in subsequent ones as I get the feeling Kennedy is not finished with him yet. I am pleased with this as I am sure, like me, that other readers have developed a soft spot for him.
Kennedy knows how to keep a reader hooked and engrossed in the characters and the plot. All tied in together with no peaks or troughs, just the reader wanting to know more and what happens next.
I have a few Templar novels in my To Be Read list as I am fascinated by their history and role. I have not been able to read them yet and this series is the first in the Templar world. All this has done is fuel my desire to read more of them, yes, in this series, but the others by those authors as well.
I am also looking forward to eventually reading Kennedy's other novels, especially the James Acton Thrillers.
I am so glad to have found this author. Kennedy is passionate about his writing and producing a novel that is not just entertaining but reproduces the era, traditions and weaves history into the plot. This is a well-structured series.
I highly recommend The Templar Detective Thrillers. Looking forward to the rest.
Loving this 'period' series by one of my favorite authors!
The first Templar Detective novel was very well laid out. This second entry was excellent as well. There is something refreshing about your hero's and protagonists limited by sending riders with messages...or simply resigned to the fact that supporting characters would be able to handle thing thrown at them. I loved the setup of Thomas's position in the first and the follow up here. It will probably behoove Marcus to have him employed in Paris, however shady that business may become. I have to admit that I called the whodunit on this one, but masterfully crafted. If you liked this detective story, you'd love his Detective Shakespeare series.
Continuing the adventures of Sir Marcus and his friends who are slowly settling into a life of farming and set only a couple of weeks after the first book.
A cousin by marriage desperately needs his help as she flees from a crime she says she didn't commit. Devout and to his word, he and Simon head off to Paris to investigate the allegations that are laid at her door but quickly find themselves involved in a much more sinister plot that places the lives of many innocents into his hands.
Can Sir Marcus find the proof to save his cousin and the others or will it not only cost them their lives but his as well.
Another well written book in the series that will keep you reading until the end.
The Templar Detective book 2 is another well-crafted story in this intriguing series of a Templar who is a detective solving mysteries and putting wrongs to rights in the same time frame as the first book. In this tale the Templar assists an adulteress who claims to be innocent. As the story moves along there are many more individuals that he feels compelled to help. He must fulfill his role as a Templar while at the same time caring for his late sister’s two children and another child who is without family.
This is a wonderful series that kept me riveted by the resilience and never-ending energy and determination to complete each task that the Templar is given along with his trusty squires who are dedicated to staying by his side through whatever comes their way. I look forward to the next book in this series.
Continuing my reading adventures with Sir Marcus de Rancourt, I find myself increasingly drawn into his world and the camaraderie of his growing entourage. The banter between the characters and the ever-moving plot, are definite high points of the series. Kennedy once again prioritizes a gripping narrative over intricate prose, yet he effectively captures the atmosphere of 14th century France through either specific descriptions of locations, clothing or social customs. The mystery itself, loosely based on true historical events, adds an extra layer of fascination. With its unexpected twists and a satisfying conclusion, The Templar Detective and the Parisian Adulteress proves another excellent addition to the series. Readers who enjoy historical mysteries with a touch of humor and a dash of action will find much to appreciate in Sir Marcus's latest adventure.
This is the second book in this thread that I have read. I have become enamored with Mr Kennedy's writing style and his story telling. Being a fan of. Sir Arthur Conan Doyles writing and Sherlock Holmes. I find that these stories fall right into my interest.
