I’m excited to try some recipes from this one. The phots are beautiful, and the instructions are clear. I wasn’t sure what’s this particular author would mean by “gourmet,” but the recipes are very appealing if you enjoy good food enough to take a little extra time and care in its preparation.
The recipes don’t look too demanding—this is no Julia Child! However, they are prettier and more thoughtful than the meals we often throw together.
In my house it's just my husband and myself, which is why I decided to check out this cookbook. But, I really like having leftovers to take to work for lunch or to have on hand so I don't have to cook every night. I do think this could be a way to try out a new recipe and not waste so much food if you don't like it or it doesn't turn out. Overall, I guess I prefer to cook "normal" recipes and use the leftovers. But, there are a few new recipes in here that I would like to try and I think many people would appreciate the small soup and chili recipes.
Excellent, easy to follow recipes of some great dishes. No wasted food as they are scaled down for 1 or 2 people, but easily expanded too. Great photos with well written descriptions of the dishes. Many, many of the ingredients are used throughout the book which makes for fewer trips to the grocery store for obscure items. We have made quite a few dishes from the book for many occasions...dinners, breakfast, football gatherings, etc...Very happy with this purchase and am looking forward to using it for a long time to come!
Recipes made - Deviled egg shrimp rolls, balsamic pot roast and southwest shepherds pie. I love how accessible and manageable these smaller recipes are. Ended up purchasing a copy.
Pluses: A Photo of every recipe Reasonable ingredients Clear, easy to follow directions Exactly what a cookbook should be!
Minuses: Most of the recipes are ones I'd never make The recipes I would make are very similar to recipes I already have No Nutrition summary for the recipes (nutrition summary: calories, carb count, cholesterol, sodium, etc., etc.)
Recommendation: Take a look at the photos and if they look like something you'd like to make, this book is for you!
