Writing is my bliss and I try to write every day. I started with two publishers who I learned a lot from. Now I self publish. I like the control it gives me over release dates and book covers.
In the 1850's, after so many trips on the Oregon Trail, Smitty decides to settle down. He has Lynn Downey and many orphans they've taken in who survived the trips, but lost their parents. But Smitty already has a wife, Brenda, and he decides to travel to her place to dissolve their marriage, which really never existed. He finds Brenda and her mom both dying of tuberculosis. When he comes back to Lynn, he is in grief and decides to leave Lynn and the kids. Lynn can't stay in a house which doesn't belong to her, so she leaves. She then makes the biggest mistake of her life. I liked this story but it requires better proofreading. Too many errors distracted me.
So Many Roads to Choose Oregon Trail Dreamin', Book 4 : Kathleen Ball
This is a clean historical western fiction. I have not read the first three books in this series.
The Oregon Trail claimed lives as people traveled west. Sometimes it was children, sometimes adults. When children were orphaned Smitty and Lynn took them in. They were building a nice family, only problem Smitty has a wife. Will these people work out there problems or not?
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Lili Dubuque has a pleasant voice.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This clean Westrern Romance is the bittersweet story of Lynn and Smitty as they navigate some very rough life challenges on their way to finding love. Lynn has been taking in orphans and now has 9 in her care and Smitty helps her. You can bet there's going to be times of laughter from the things the the kids say and do, as well as time tears. This book is part of a series, but would read well as a stand alone.
This story had scenes a bit wilder than I'd normally consider Sweet, but they're definitely still clean. Lots of trouble is ahead for these two. And there doesn't seem to be relief in sight. I don't think I've ever read a story with this amount of hardships, trials, difficulties, and dispair in one book! I found the opening scenes a bit disturbing. It's been a while since I read the previous book and having some explanation or refresher would have been appreciated!
Sometimes it is frustrating when we can see what the character should do and they do something else. Well, life is like that. We think in strange ways and act even more strangely. The love shared here in this story is the kind that begets more love and has an effect through generations.
I've been waiting for this book for awhile. Smittu was an intricate character in this series. There are sad pparts that broke my heart but what a finally.
This is the best western series I have read. I love the way it starts from a beginning and finishes with an ending. Good clean western romance. Looking forward to the next series.
We have all been waiting for this book. A "Pa" to all children; a friend when needed; and, loved by many. I cried, smiled and got choked up when reading this book. I loved it.
I have enjoyed this series from the very beginning and this forth book in the series didn't disappoint. Well written characters and a very good storyline. Looking forward to the spin-off series, The Settlers! JudyE
All in all this is one heck of a beautiful story. The writing, the story, the characters. Just absolutely beautiful. Nice and clean, so suitable for all readers. A real winner.
Hi , you are such a tremendous author , I love your books . This was another great story and I look forward to reading more. Thanks Kathleen , your Awesome Respectively: Joyce Lichtwald
A lot of struggling for Lynn and Smitty. Life was definitely a struggle to make it to Oregon and all survive. But to struggle the time after with love and happiness was really hard.
Smitty and Lynn's story is full of twists and turns. Some good and smart ones and some not so good or wise. This story has a very happy ending. You will enjoy this book.
Another good read. Again the early West has been depicted quite realistic. Simple but meaningfull gifts, ornate boxes for future brides and lovingly crafted wedding gifts abound! Hard life lived but full of hope and memories. Thanks again Kathleen.
It was great getting to read Smitty's story. One filled with both joy and sorrow. You feel both their ups and downs as they progress through their story. Such strong characters that you have to see the story end.
FiRst I can't believe there is a swear word in the epilogue. Not any of the Other books nor did this one have swears in it. I was shocked. The story has a happy ending just like all fairy tails should
Such a great storyline! This sweet romance has laughs, tears, and frustration. Smitty and Lynn both make some horrible choices; thankfully, there is forgiveness.
Thank you again Kathleen Ball for a great story of those who endure the Oregon Trail in the lives they touched in the stories they had. I look forward to Mory riding
This was such a touching story and great way to end the series. I was excited to see a spin off series starting with Lynn and smitty's kids. Can't wait!
