Lester Grinspoon, M.D. (Harvard Medical School, 1955) was a psychiatrist and associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard University. He was known for his groundbreaking work on the science and social policy of cannabis, psychedelics and other drugs, and his related commitment to the reformation of harmful drug policies.
He concurrently served as a senior psychiatrist at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center for 40 years and was a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Psychiatric Association. He was founding editor of The American Psychiatric Association Annual Review and Harvard Mental Health Letter, holding the latter position for fifteen years.
Just shows that there was much ado about nothing for this misunderstood herb despite almost a century of persecution. Pot has less harm potential to society than either tobacco or alcohol, IMHO, it's as harmful to man as coffee and probably has definite benefits to a myriad of modern health woes. Not for everyone, but then, we all know associates that shouldn't drink but are readily allowed to harm both themselves & other.
This is the book that launched the legalization movement (with the added benefit of pissing off Richard Nixon). Dr. Grinspoon's insights legitimized proper cannabis research and debunked many established harmful myths about the healing plant. Thank you Lester!
