Until she went with her boyfriend to ask the mayor to fund a spay and neuter clinic, Lisa Chance had never even set foot in city hall. But this all changes after the mayor is caught in an illegal gambling ring and fired.
With the town’s political landscape turned upside down, long-simmering tensions threaten the peace and stability of Moss Creek.
Now Lisa’s mother feels it’s her duty to run for the vacant office, and ropes Lisa into acting as her campaign manager.
When a murder disrupts the rival campaign, it seems no one in town is safe. Can Lisa find the killer in time to protect the town and the people she loves?
It's finally happened - the invasion of a big box store threatens Moss Creek. While the mayor doesn't seem concerned, the citizens are up in arms. Amidst all this tension, the Mayor is discovered at an illegal gambling game and removed from office due to a morality clause in his mayoral contract. But when the young Mayor's assistant is found dead, things kick off. Lisa Chance's mother bids for the position of mayor only to be opposed by the incumbent. With solving a murder and supporting her mother's campaign, Lisa has no time for anything else.
The main character has been fleshed out since her first appearance in Book 1. She now pushes back against those who disturb her customers, be they friends, family or strangers. She exhibits irritability (and lets it be known) to people who annoy her though she's still welcoming to her regulars and her little cat.
The solution to the mystery was telegraphed well in advance, I felt. Despite the red herrings, there was one clear forerunner. However, I enjoyed the run-up to the unmasking and getting there was most of the fun.
This book seems to be the last in this series, which is a shame. Getting to know Lisa and her family has been a pleasure.
I just love this series. The characters are so believable. I grew up in a small town and now live in another one. We have people just like some of these but thankfully no murders. Book is very entertaining with just enough twists to keep it interesting. And the muffins sound wonderful!
Mayor Ethan Valentine is slimy, fake and obviously dirty and corrupt but he has been mayor of Moss Creek for some while and it is very much a "if it is not broke, why fix it" attitude for most of the town folk, that is until the police were tipped off that a high stakes poker game was being run in a new development part of town. They manage to arrest the Mayor, his right hand man, Jake Peterson, another slimy developer and Ryan, yet another slimy character who is putting in a bid to bring Bargain Box, a large cut price outfit into town. Wow, what a lot of slimies - birds of a feather as they say. But one of them get knifed, the mayor gets kicked out of office and all Lisa wanted was just some funding for Mo's spay & neuter clinic.
I did enjoy reading this latest offering from Estelle Richards. I do so like Mo, Lisa's boyfriend. He is such a sweetheart and so totally clueless, like most men, as to how to woo her but you cannot help but forgive him as he means well and cares so much for her. Happy ending, gotta love it. Looking forward to the next book!
In Killer Campaign it's now March in Moss Creek, Arizona. Lisa's best friend, Carly, is new mom to baby Liam and dealing with postpartum depression. Mayor Ethan Valentine is arrested in a raid of illegal gambling. Lisa's mom, Penny, decides to run for mayor with Lisa as her campaign manager. Then the mayor's campaign manager, Dan Weston, is found dead! Time for Lisa to solve another murder! I enjoyed this third book in the Lisa Chance Cozy mysteries. I'm ready for a fourth book!
Lisa Chance is already the owner of the Last Chance Cafe. And when her mom decides to run for mayor, her mom designates her as her campaign manager. And when the opposition's campaign manager winds up dead, well, of COURSE Lisa is gonna find time to nose around....
The three books in the series could be read as stand alone books but are more enjoyable as a set. They are not short stories but a full read. They are good clean stories with no details of gore. The main character seems to have matured by book three which makes it a better read.
Awesome, entertaining read. Until recently Lisa had never been in a town hall. That changed when she went with her boyfriend. After that the Mayor seems to be involved in illegal things. I couldn’t put the book away, until I had finished it. Ready for the next one.
I am greatly enjoying this series. This is a well written mystery with a nice twist at the end. It has interesting characters and a good plot, and is set in a cozy small town. I’m already looking forward to the next book. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Mama Cat is the most realistic cat I've read in a cozy mystery series, so that's something. This was a little messy, since there was a lot of extra snippets and red herring kind of stuff, but still solid and believable.
What a great story. I love the mother becoming the Mayor and all the hilarious stuff that helped bring this about. The big about the vet getting people to play and neuter their pets was a plus!
Interesting and fun characters that really stand out in a crowded genre. The who-done-it aspect was suspenseful, keeping the reader guessing. The entire series is worth reading.
Like prev book, it feels slow. I still like the MC, although she was a bit less appealing this time. But I also still end up feeling like the investigation overlooks some things that ought to clearly need checking.
People won't be disappointed with this book it's a great story from the beginning to end.You had me hooked I hope you write more. Thanks for sharing it with me keep them coming.
A book by Estelle Richards is always a great book. Killer Campaign is no exception. Lisa's family is heavily involved in her mother's run for the mayor's position. A shady poker game results in murder and once again Lisa can't help but involve herself in solving the mysterious crime. Treat yourself and get this book!
This is the first book in the series that I have had a chance to read. I look forward to reading the other two. The book was a little long for a cozy mystery, but it had all of the other great parts: humor, well developed characters, and intensity!
Another great book in the Lisa Chance Mysteries series
Lisa’s mother runs for mayor and makes Lisa her campaign manager. But boy do things go wrong! Another murder… leads to another entertaining story! I loved the characters and the small-town feel every good cozy needs to have. I loved the lightheartedness of the book (aside from the murder aspect of course; that is very serious indeed). I loved the twist at the end. I thought it was a great cozy!
