The Twists and Turns of Love
How strange that a carriage accident could bring such enchantment into Petula's life. Buried in the country, she was completely unused to such witty or handsome company as Major Adrian Chester. What good fortune that he was forced to spend the night at the manor house. And what a marvelous evening they spent together. The morning brought still greater delight: "I could not sleep for thinking about you," the Major said and suddenly his lips were on hers. The kiss was so wonderful, so perfect, that Petula felt as if they were alone in a secret place far removed from the world. She thought he would kiss her again, but then he said abruptly: "I have to be on my way as soon as possible." Would the enchantment end now ... forever?

This one was cute and a bit angsty since the Hero and heroine fall in love w each other pretty fast but cant be together because….
They meet when the Hero takes a wrong turn on a country lane and his wheel breaks. He is forced to ask for assistance at the dilapidated manor house of the heroine.
Since the heroine is quite beautiful, it doesn’t take him long to fall for her. However, he has other commitments so, they say their goodbyes while gazing longingly into each other’s eyes.
The heroine is a destitute orphan, she has been waiting for her uncle ever since the passing of her father. The uncle finally shows up, and when he sees the beauty of the heroine, he decides to bring her to London so she can catch a rich and titled husband.
Of course the heroine is an instant success, however, she is disinterested since her heart belongs to the Hero. But she knows she needs to make a good marriage to someone who can support her and her uncle who is impoverished as well.
In one of the balls, she sees the Hero! It turns out he is a Duke, but he is engaged to someone else. They are still in love w each other, the Duke also confesses his feelings for her, but there is no way he can honorably release himself from his promise to his fiancée. It was an arrangement made since they were kids.
A lot of things need to fall in place before these two can have their happy ever after.
Of course is a Barbara Cartland so they do.

Major Adrian Chester knew he shouldn’t have taken a shortcut that took him off the main road out of London. Of course, the country boobies and the backroads led to his Phaeton’s wheel breaking and a most unacceptable delay in his journey north! It also, however, leads him to seek help at a run-down manor house, where the young, innocent, and impoverished Petula Buckden has been struggling to make ends meet since the death of her father. Enchanted by her sweetness, so different from the London charmers he’s used to, Adrian steals a kiss before he drives away, determined never to see the lovely maiden again.
