The Last Serpent #5

Serpent's Hold

Rate this book
The fifth book in Tansey Morgan's flagship reverse harem series continues... this time, there’s no going back from where Lilith is going.

I feel like I'm sitting on a boiling pot, and the water is starting to simmer. Soon, I fear, something is going to happen, something big and dangerous, but I can't put my finger on where or when that's going to happen. All I can do is deal with the problems at home; problems like Dante. I haven't seen him in a week, not since that night, and I'm worried he's left for good. Problems like Tom, who remains in the Alexandria as a refugee. Problems like Laura, who doesn't like me and has made it clear she's going to second guess me every chance she gets. Living in the Alexandria isn't easy, but it's home now, and I have to make the best of it.

At the same time, I can't shake this feeling of... dread... looming over me. I don't know exactly what's coming, but I do know that when it hits us, we my well not recover from it.

Serpent's Hold is the fifth book in a brand new paranormal REVERSE HAREM series by Tansey Morgan. If you love the paranormal romance and urban fantasy genres, and want to read something that not only straddles the line between both, but introduces not one, but five love interests (possibly more), then this is the book for you.

Disclaimer: this book is part of a continuing series of novels, all which will follow the same arc over many books, but each which will tease into the next - expect to be left with questions at the end. As a reverse harem urban fantasy, you can expect there to be action, magic, intrigue, and multiple primary love interests. Sexual content will also form a part of this series, as will swearing and violence. If you're happy with all of this, then...

Serpent’s Hold by Tansey Morgan is book five in her The Last Serpent series. In this book we are once again reunited with Lilith and her harem of men. Everyone has returned to the Alexandria, but Dante has taken off on a mission without a word to Lilith. She’s feeling a bit disconcerted concerning this fact, but has pushed forward with her everyday life awaiting his return. Her training is progressing with Leo, but things aren’t going as well as she would hope. Leo has high expectations of her, and is looking to make sure that she is able to defend herself in any situation. Things quickly begin to deteriorate when while out with Kyle, someone gives Lilith an envelope full of pictures. Then when she returns to the Alexandria, Dante is back, but something is going on with him that could jeopardize so much. Something is coming, and it’s coming fast. Will Lilith, her men, and who call the Alexandria home be ready for it? Will they have the strength and fortitude to survive it?
Serpent’s Hold is engaging, fast paced and exhilarating. I love how the author has the characters so true to form. You would almost believe that they are real people being channeled into the pages. Lilith once again is adapting to situations as she must. I appreciate that the author has her acknowledge that she is a certain type of personality. Lilith admits that she’s a control freak, and that she likes to know exactly what is going on with a person or in a situation. I like, however, that instead of mouthing off, like she would have done before, that she picks and chooses her battles in this book. I absolutely love that we get a healthy dose of Kyle in this book as well. He is easily becoming my second favorite character now. Sorry Aiden. LOL! I like that a couple situations finally come to a head as well in this book. It’s all just so awesome.
While there isn’t really anything that I don’t like about this book, I would have liked a bit more of what happened with Dante while he was gone. I will admit that I was a bit disappointed that the story didn’t pick up RIGHT where things left off, with the men still being gone. I would have liked to know how things went with them while they were gone on their respective missions. I also would have liked to know what their thoughts were concerning all that happened with and to Lilith while they were gone.
Regardless of my wishing, haha, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Tansey Morgan does not disappoint giving us yet another engaging page turner that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. There are a couple steamy situations that will leave you hungry for more. As I said before, I love that Kyle had a couple spotlight moments in this story as well. He is such a fantastic character and I look forward to more from him in the future.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. If you have read Tansey Morgan’s books to this point DON’T STOP NOW!!! Keep reading!! You won’t be disappointed! This author gives us so much good stuff with each book that she puts out. You are always left ready for more and impatient for the next book to drop. So don’t miss out and grab this book up today so that you, too can catch up on what all is going to happen next at the Alexandria.

What’s so special about a succubus again?

Let’s be real here, this book series is doing well but I still have some lingering questions and vibes that I haven’t quite figured out yet. Caution, below are spoilers of plot.

What is a succubus and why is she special? She is the last (probably) of her kind. Is that why she is special- simply because she’s the only one? The book series has lots of people surprised and coveting her but I don’t see why. We’re told she is powerful but she really isn’t more powerful than anyone around her. She doesn’t do cool magic like the other students, she can’t smoke teleport like demons, she hasn’t tried to learn any potions or summoning even though every supernatural can do it if they study. Is her strength is that she has wings? Where is her crazy and scary succubus we met at her coming out party? What skills does she have that could possibly cause her race to be hunted into extinction? Is being able to fly the thing? Damon can do it. Are there not other shifters? Is she the only one shapeshifting in this whole world? I don’t know! Tell me! I am reading this and I see a girl surrounded by supernaturally gifted guys and she can shapeshift. Cool but she is surrounded by magically superior people and especially her boys; like Damon can do some mystery light snapping thing against vampires and she doesn’t even know how! She has an incubus right there in her harem and he hasn’t taught her anything. She is ignorant- I don’t know if it’s for plot or what. Does she know everything about succubus life? Is she even trying to figure it out? If the boys love her, why would they not help her gain the knowledge she needs to be strong? Which leads me to the next thought...

She is supposed to have street smarts, we see that when she is undercover in the drug world. She also has had shitty relationships in the past, abusive even. And here she is constantly backing down when it comes to Damon and even sometimes greater plot scenes. She will think that she needs to resolve this, address him abandoning her and she lets him shuffle her away with no explanation. Then she finally, finally comes back and gets him to talk and he pulls “ the I know I hurt you but it’s because I love you too much” blah blah and she just sighs and forgets that he completely left her after banging her without a good bye or even a cute little note on his pillow. If he loved her so much he would have told her he was leaving. I’ve read three other RH books when the female protagonist comes back with the response “I understand but you will never walk out on me/ leave me out of things again because I won’t be here for you to disrespect me”. BAM. Like be understanding but stand your ground. Damon basically wiggles out of being held accountable because she crushes on him and can’t control herself. Like yawn. Really? Show a little of that backbone we heard you had.

Wow! Such an intense series!

This is such a wonderful series, and bonus - it's a true RH story! The books just get more and more exciting and intense. Lilith and her supernatural guys are still in London at the Alexandria after combining their German supernatural group with the British group due to the increasing danger to all of them.
The drug dealers selling supernatural's soul essence are getting bolder and bolder and the group hunting and killing all the female supernaturals are getting closer and more dangerous. Even with the combined groups and their powers, they don't have even a fraction of the numbers of their enemies. Now they're all just trying to survive.
I can't wait for the next installment!!

Could have been perfect

This could have been a fantastic addition except the main character had to go do that stupid thing that drives me crazy! You know the one. You are up against a big bad guy you can't handle and you have back up in the building, but they don't know where you are there or that you are in danger, but instead of screaming you hold those screams in because this guy isn't worth it. Whatever the heck that's supposed to mean! To me it translates into I'm tstl please take me out and save my friends from the danger my ignorance is going to constantly place them in. It always .makes ME want to scream when a "hero" pulls this. Heck with that! Scream your bloody head off and let your people know where you are and that you need them! Now THAT is smart.

Wow! Amazing action.

I was so excited when this book came out, we finally get to see the next steps in a growing relationship and the drug ring go down! Although Dante is still being g his overly arrogant self not wanting to be with anyone else .... But killing g him self that's to much. Dang it Dante people need you. Kyle is a breath of fresh air with his sassy,in ur face comments and personality. I keep thinking something is going to happen love\sex wise with Leo and I would really love to see him taken down a notch or 2 by Lilith. The cult is back at it again. Alexandria has been attacked what will happen NEXT!Keep writing this series is AWESOME!

Ms. Morgan has done it again. Lilith is trying to figure out whats going on with Dante, who took off after their night together, while also figuring out how to shut down Elroy. This series is one of my favorites and each book is better then the one before. I love that lilith continues to grow and become more comfortable with who she is and all of her men. The mystery behind the cult keeps getting bigger and I cannot wait for the next book to find out more. Without spoiling anything I can't say why but Dante has now passed Aiden as my favorite.

To be honest, I'm getting pretty tired of this whole thing. I mean, this is book five and we're not really moving any further into the story.
I get that relationship is an important aspect of an RH, but I'm a) sick and tired of the constant back and forth between the characters and b) would like to see some actual plot development.
I originally liked the idea for the story and where it was supposed to move plot-wise, but it has gone on long enough. I'm gonna get this series another chance and then I'm done.

Drama, action, intrigue, adventure, this story has it all. Lilith turns up more answers, but they also give rise to even more questions. Dante and Lilith have finally admitted that there’s something more between them, but can they sustain it? The ending of this one is probably the softest cliff-hanger in the series so far. That doesn’t change the fact that I still want to know more NOW!
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.

Lilith is better stronger as is her relationship with her guys. I am even starting to like Leo, and Dante is sweet, Being a little stupid, but sweet

This amazing storyline is powering along at a great pace, filled with danger, action and excitement and of course some romance and steam. I am really enjoying this series and am very looking forward to reading the next instalment

Well written. Riveting. Entertaining. But, not a happily ever after. What would be the fun in that?

Lilith is ever the darling who puts others before herself: who believes in second chances. On top of that, she's smoking hot.

I was provided this book as an ARC by the author; however, the review is my honest opinion.

Amazing

But I don't know how one book can you continue to get better than the other I don't have a favorite Tansey Morgan, has an ability to draw us away from our own current an immersive suntory universe that she has created she is without a doubt my favorite and if you have not started the series I highly suggest you do

Like the series

I really like the series, it's fun and sexy, but this book was teeny...so short. It just started getting good and then the end...that was frustrating.

How long??

How long is this series. It’s bad enough that the books are so short but into book five and it’s still going?

How do I love Dante? Let me count the ways. Dante is just perfect. I didn't think I could love him more but I was wrong. That man is a prince among men and Lilith is such a lucky girl. Oh, that we could all have a Dante. (BTW, still loving Aiden).
Anyhoo, the rest of the story is quite good as well! Thrills, chills and spills as whoever is hunting Lilith and all the other female supernaturals step up their game and Lilith, Aiden and Leo go hunting to find out more about the supernatural Soylent Green drug.
Lilith is growing into her new self as she bonds with her men and becomes more comfortable with dividing her time between them, accepting that they love her unconditionally. Each man brings something different to the table and they all complement her and together make her into a stronger, better version of herself. She needs them all and they do not disappoint her or us. I kind of wish Leo was one of her men but secretly, deep down, I'm rooting for him and Madeline.
(BTW, also still really loving Kyle).
This series just keeps improving and you really need to start at the beginning to get properly involved. Each episode adds more depth to the story and the characters. Waiting eagerly for the next episode now.

Serpent's Hold is the sixth book of Tansey Morgan's The Last Serpent series. Tansey didn't disappoint at all! Oh and the drug dealers selling supernatural's soul essence are getting bolder and killing female supernaturals for their souls.

This series keeps blowing me away with each book! The action in this book was awesome! I couldn't put it down! I love how we get to see even more of the drug operation going on but still being left with questions unanswered. Just a bit of steam this go around but with everything else going on in the story it was quite understandable. I hope things work out in helping Dante find what he needs to thrive! I am glad to see more Leo and him working with the others and not in secret as much. Definitely excited for the next one! Keep them coming!
