Shopping for a Billionaire #13

Shopping for a Billionaire's Baby

Rate this book
You know what’s even better than marrying a billionaire? Having his baby.

We’re ready. We’ve studied and planned, read all the birth and labor books, researched parenting classes, consulted our schedules, and it’s time.

And by we I mean me.

Declan’s just ready for the “have lots of sex” part. More than ready.

But there’s just one problem: my husband and his brother have this little obsession with competition.

And by little, I mean stupid.

That’s right.

We’re not just about to try to bring a new human being into the world.

We have to do it better, Faster, Stronger.

Harder.

McCormick men don’t just have babies.

They engage in competitive billionaire Babythons.

I thought the hardest part about getting pregnant would be dealing with my grandchild-crazed mother, who will go nuts shopping for a billionaire’s baby.

Wrong.

Between conception issues, my mother’s desire to talk to the baby through a vaginacam, a childbirth class led by a drill sergeant and a father-in-law determined to sign the kid up for prep school before Declan even pulls out, my pregnancy has turned out to be one ordeal after the other.

But it’s nothing — nothing — compared to the actual birth.

Shannon, Declan, and friends are back at it again with a new book in the Shopping for a Billionaire series. Laugh out loud humor? Check. Swoon-worthy moments? Check. Family and friends galore? Check. Shopping for a Billionaire's Baby had everything I loved in the first books and more. This is by far my favorite in the series!

Happily married for two years all the while building their own empire, Shannon and Declan McCormick are ready to take the next step in their relationship—babies. They're ready to go all in, but Declan quickly realizes that baby-making isn't all fun and games. There are cycles to think about, sperm count, and many more. Plus, when you have a competitive brother trying to one-up you, a mother-in-law who wants to plan an outrageous baby shower, and a company to run, Shannon and Declan realize it's going to be one hell of a journey.

Shannon McCormick née Jacoby reminds me so much of Bridget Jones, and I love her for it. In essence, she's still the same quirky girl from the start of the series, but I'm so pleased to see so much growth in her. There's strength, more confidence, but ultimately, Shannon is still the woman Declan fell in love with.

And I'm so happy to have half of Declan's perspective in this book. We see his fears and doubts about his impending fatherhood, his antics with his brother Andrew, and most importantly, we see his love and adoration for Shannon. I want a man to love me like Declan loves Shannon.

There's so much love between Declan and Shannon, it made me so happy. Their love and affection for each other are so much stronger now, and to see that grow even more on their journey to having a baby was incredibly heartwarming.

It was also nice to see the growth in Shannon's mom Marie and Declan's dad James. Marie still has her moments of being overbearing and sharing too much information, but she's mellowed out and is trying her best to change the error of her ways. James is still prideful, but he's also trying to the best of his abilities.

I loved that we got to see the whole process of it all. We were there with them as they tried to conceive and finally succeed, and to see the months that follow. They both fumble and feel clueless, as parents often do, but they're together in it.

It made me miss Shannon and Declan, and now I want to read more. I don't think I'll ever get enough of them and their family.

POV: First Person, Dual POV
Standalone: No

“I put a baby in you.”
“You put a baby in me.”
“I really liked putting a baby in you.”

Ok, first of all, I was super nervous diving into SHOPPING FOR A BILLIONAIRE’S BABY given the fact that it was book #13 in a series AND it was by an author that I’ve never read before. So right from the very start this book had two things going against it, but I have to say, I was VERY pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Shannon and Declan’s story. Now, they are already living their happily ever after, so this addition is just an extension to that where they deal with the trials and tribulations of married life and trying to start a family. I feel like many people will be able to relate to the struggles that these two characters face with growing their beautiful family. That’s what I loved so much about it. Yes, it’s fiction, but so many families are dealing with this right now, so it was nice to take a minute and appreciate that the struggle IS real.

From beginning to end, I didn’t put this book down…not even once. I was THAT enraptured in their story. I laughed. I cried. I felt so much, right alongside these characters and I enjoyed every minute of their journey to this next step in their lives. I really liked Julia Kent’s writing style. It was straightforward, easy to read, and flowed seamlessly. This is my very first book from this author, but I can truthfully say, it will definitely not be the last. So take it from me, SHOPPING FOR A BILLIONAIRE’S BABY can be read as a standalone. You will get bits and pieces of how Shannon and Declan’s love story began, but if you want it all, make sure you pick up the start of the series, SHOPPING FOR A BILLIONAIRE.

A Beautiful & Emotional story which made me laugh-out-loud, Swoon and Cry Happy Tears❤.

Shannon, Declan and Friends are back in Shopping for a Billionaire's Baby!
Shannon+Dec have been together for 4yrs, 2yrs being blissfully married & Building ‘Grind it Fresh!' Coffee Chain Empire Together.
Now, They're ready to be parents, Have a Baby *Yay!*.
No one said it'd be easy But S+D go through it all with Care, Determination, Patience and LOVE.
This book was longer than previous ones, I'm so Honored to be part of their Journey❤, From Conceiving to Child birth!

Shannon is still the Sassy+Hilarious woman Declan fell in love with, Though She'd matured & her confidence is Sexy AF.
I loved how we get 50% of the Story from Declan's PoV❤. Experiencing his Adoration & Love to Shannon *Swoon*, AND The Guys' Gym talks+Antics from His POV is Fun!

With wanting to be pregnant, Maybe Babython, Conceiving Problems, usual Hilariousness, Fun Sexy Vacation and Then..Good News, She's Pregnant!
Dec soon finds out that taking care of business and a Pregnant woman's emotions isn't an easy task. But He Does it with Fierce Love and Devotion that makes my heart melt.

Marie (Shannon's mom) is as inappropriate as ever, but she'd learned about boundaries *some*.
James (Dec's Dad) is Still Proudful, but seeing his Gentle side here was Sweet!
It's so Pretty how with a baby coming, Shannon & Dec's family, who're so different, Come together..As one. I loved all of the Family interactions here! (The Cat & Puppy Drama too!)

Nostalgia, Emotions at an all time high, Drama & Friendly Fun, Resilience, The Baby Shower (What'll be the baby's Gender+Due Date?) Mystery Shop, Birthing Class, Sexy+Loving times..

But (the Blurb WAS Right!), Nothing Compared to the Actual Childbirth.
In a broken Elevator, No pain meds, Declan helped Shannon in Delivering❤ *OMG!!*.
He saved them both, His Wife and Their Cute daughter *Swoon*. (I'm so glad that Dr. Alex was there!)

It's so Magical! They've made a baby *Happy Tears*.
The later scenes are Sweetness and the Epilogue(ish)'s cute, a glimpse into S+D's life with their newborn baby❤.

P.s. I so want a love like Dec+Shannon's!
P.P.S. Off to reading about Andrew & Amanda's Honeymoon!

5 star review Shopping For A Billionaire’s Baby (Shopping for a Billionaire #13) by Julia Kent

Wow, what a great book! Congratulations, Ms. Kent on a great addition to what is in my humble opinion a fantastic series. As with every book I have read in this series, I was in stitches having laughed so much I cried. That’s right, not only laughing but snort laughing, totally unattractive I assure you. I have always enjoyed reading about Declan and Shannon and after reading Shopping For A Billionaire’s Baby I love them even more.Throw in their families, who quite frankly are as mad as hatters and what a fun read it was. Having said all that, be prepared for some swoon worthy and tear jerking moments. All I will say is that I loved Declan before and I love him even more now. As you can imagine from trying to conceive till the birth can be an emotional roller coaster, add in the nuttiness that is Declan and Shannon and their families and you just know that this is going to be one heck of a ride. What a simply brilliant addition to one of my favourite romantic comedy series ever.

Making a baby with a billionaire isn't as fun as shopping for, dating or marrying a billionaire. I'm sure this book is hilarious to readers that are parents, but I could have done without the morning sickness, bladder problems and hormonal mood swings. In short, I'm with Andrew on this one.

(That being said: the unicorn yoga was hilarious!)

I was so anxious waiting for this next book by Julia Kent. I have read this whole series and loved it so the anticipation of the Shopping For a Billionaire’s Baby was just too much for me to bear. As soon as the ARC came onto my kindle everything else in life just disappeared.

Julia has a way in this series to have you not only fall in love with the characters and side characters, pets, but to also feel all the emotion, laughter, tears and sadness everyone experiences and this to me is a trait not many authors have and I applaud her for this talent.

I cried with some of the truly magical romantic moments, I laughed with the antics that went on but most of all, I adored this book.

When you have phrases like this one, you know you are going to have a laugh: - “Are you sure we want to have kids?” I whisper in Declan’s ear. “Yes,” he whispers back, drinking more beer. “Whew”. “But I’m not sure I want to have a mother-in-law”

I loved the way Declan and Andrew are still competitive in this book and the way they are always trying to get one better on each other, true brothers, but when it counts they are there for each other as it should be.

It was also a delight in that Shannon’s mother was not as overbearing as she can be, to me she mellowed a bit and yes there were still some cringe worthy exchanges she arose to the occasion and surprised me at just how gentle deep down she can be.

Shannon is just my favourite kind of woman, she is strong yet when she loves, she loves deeply and will go out of her way to show you, no matter who you are but you better not cross her or she will show she has claws and with a very protective husband as Declan the two make a great force to be reckoned with but they are also an amazingly loveable couple who love hard. The electricity is still there between these two as is the fun and strength they give each other.

One of my favourite parts of the book was the birth coaching class where everyone has to do some sculpting; needless to say Declan was a master at it.

It is not all fun and games there are some tense moments in this book that make you take a sharp intake of breath, however, like Julia always does, she doesn’t leave you hanging. You turn the next few pages and you are saved, drama/crisis dealt with and on you go reading more, breath and heart rate steading back to a normal pace.

“We did it”, he whispers. “We’re having a baby”. He drops to his knees and presses his cheek against my belly, hands on my ass, riding up to the small of my back. “Our baby is in there”

Shannon and Declan in the Shopping series are a joy to read, however, you don’t just get them, you get all the family and added on stories which make this series one in a million and not one to be missed.

so freaking cute.
i've always loved declan and shannon's love story. from their wedding to now them trying to have a baby is a journey. book after book, julia kent never fails to make the book hilarious. with over-the-top characters like marie to opposites of her like declan, the character dynamic is amazing.

declan's more of a "let's get down to business" guy, he appears stoic and intense but with shannon, it seemed like he has a whole other side. he's romantic and sensitive towards her feelings. i loved how in tuned he was to her hormonal changes and insecurity when the pregnancy got longer. he always seemed to know what to say to her, not in the "i'm saying this so that you don't blow up in my face" way but in the "i'll love you no matter the stretch marks and how big you are because you're carrying our creation, and for that i'm always grateful" way.

throughout the book, we see how much they struggle with wanting a baby, getting pregnant, setting the boundaries, and compromising on certain issues. once again, we see them change into to-be-parents and it was touching.

there's no lack in hilarious moments as well, especially with marie in the picture, oh and also the paparazzi. let's just say unicorn yoga, ads and marie don't go well together and paps do what paps do the best.

So much sweetness in this story! We finally get Declan and Shannon having a baby!! And what a journey it is. The highs and the lows and everything in between. But the most amazing part is all the love we feel flowing throughout the novel, encompassing the all-consuming depths of Declan and Shannon's love. But this isn't just all lovey-dovey, smoochy, I-love-you's the entire time. This puppy is filled with Julia Kent's classic humor, including all the awkwardness and hilarity, all the coffee-craziness, all the boundary-challenged Marie moments, and all the humor and horrors of a first pregnancy. I remember my first pregnancy (which ironically was 18 years ago to the week of this release) and I could relate with so many of Shannon's moments. This was such a beautiful journey and I cherished every moment.

Shopping for The Billionaire's Baby is a fun, hilarious, good time romp that makes you fall in love with Declan and Shannon all over again. If you've followed this series you know this was the next step. I loved the entire process in this book! We got to see it from start to finish. Trying to conceive to birth. We also see all of the other characters that we've fallen in love with through these books.

Like always Shannon and Declan are hilarious. Their banter keeps you in stitches. The writing, as always, is flawless. Everything about this series keeps you entranced and makes you wish for one more book. I hope this isn't the end, I'd really love to see how they are a parents! Maybe see how Andrew puts up with Amanda being pregnant! Julia Kent always offers us a good time with her books, and this was not an exception!

Up-roaring, hilariously funny, sweetly sexy good time. One of my all time favorite couples is having a baby and I just can't get enough... From the struggles of conceiving to the emotional birth I just could not put it down (house work went undone, meals where nuked, kids were complaining and hubby was sadly neglected (sorry family, I do love you))

Declan and Shannon are so in love and have the nuttiest family but you just can't help but love them. Who could resist reading about a the McCormick brothers engaged in competitive billionaire Babython. I laughed, I cried, I said to myself "oh my goodness" ... do not read in public unless you are ok with random strangers looking at you funny or asking what the heck? Could not have loved this adventure more.

Breaking up may be hard to do, but in the case of Declan and Shannon growing up seems to be even harder. When will the couple who is forever getting it wrong finally manage to get it right? The adorably clueless duo made a list, set a date and made a mess before they tied the knot tight. Now the real adventure begins. The wonderful road to parenthood. The timing couldn't be more right, so why does everything seem to be going so wrong? Let the chaos continue. Shopping for a Billionaire's Baby reiterates what makes life special. The people we love, the moments we share and the hiccups along the way. Through the imagination of a comedic genius and her hard to resist creations, we learn a valuable lesson. Life is not meant to be perfect, it's meant to be lived. Loved It!

Oh Good Lord. Everybody should have a Declan......that would only be fair! 😍
Such a great book with lots of laugh out loud moments (okay no surprise there) but I didn't expect to cry so much too. Well...maybe that was short sighted of me too but *that letter*!
The more I read of this series the more my emotions are involved. Maybe it's getting to know them all so well. Maybe it's that more of their emotions are revealed (oh Declan!). Who knows, who cares why, just enjoy the ride.
A really great book that I was very lucky to receive as an ARC to review.
I can't wait for the next book.

OMG! Julia Kent your books are amazing, the HUMOR, so well written and full of emotion, you laugh til you cry or pee or cry from happiness or sadness. This can be a stand-alone but I suggest starting at book 1: Shopping for a Billionaire , for all the back stories of Declan and Shannon 's roller coaster romance to the present time of pregnancy and the delivery.
BEWARE!! Reading in public will get you funny looks from the people around you!!

I have read a few of these in this series, not all of them. But you don't feel like you are missing much. These stories are great and this one was no different. I laughed out loud, didn't want to put it down and just thoroughly enjoyed everything about this read. Julia Kent is a great author and keeps her story hip and fun. Another great one from her. I’ve loved Declan and Shannon since that first meet cute in the bathroom! Since then Julia Kent has taken me on such a hilarious and tumultuous ride. I could keep reading about these two and their unexplainably crazy situations they find themselves in forever. Dating, engagement, wedding, marriage, and now I’ve watched them navigate the journey to parenthood. How this woman manages to mix sexy and ridiculous laugh out loud comedy I’ll never know. But, she has me hooked and any time I need a happy pick me up, she’s the one I go to!

I love Julia's Shopping series, and Shopping for a Billionaire's Baby was no different. We really got to see another side to Shannon and Declan's relationship with this book. Of course we had the typical humor and laugh out loud moments, but this book and an additional compassionate emotional layer. I really enjoyed watching the couple overcome what could break some couples. I loved the peeks into what's to come from the series. A story full of the things they don't tell you about pregnancy, humor, family, life, and love. Can't wait for the next one!

Absolutely Wonderful

I must say am so pleased to see where these characters have reach. I always loved Shannon’s and Declan’s story however after Andrew and Amanda’s wedding disaster I was so disappointed I gave this series a break. Wanting to know what life looks like I decided to one click this book and am so happy I did. It was exactly where I envision Shannon and Declan. You see their growth, while still seeing them find their place in their marriage. It seems their love for one another has blossomed even more and Marie while still engaging in her antics has even calmed . Thank God! I throughly enjoyed this read and look forward to future adventures with this couple.

I guessed the baby's name right a few months ago when a guessing game was being played in one of the Kent games on Facebook. That definitely made me happy.

This was legitimately a hard review for me to write because this is one of my favorite series, and I knew I was going to struggle with giving it 3 stars. It took me almost all day (literally over 12 hours) to read this book, because I had to keep stopping myself to think about what parts I would comment on in my review, which parts I wouldn't, and how strongly I felt about those parts.

There are many amazing things about this book that I adored. Thirteen books into the series, you know if you're still reading what you are going to get. Kent's humor is still present, Shannon and Declan's love is more touching and unique to them than ever before, and THERE'S A BABY. And that baby's delivery story...is pretty Shannon and Declan style.

There are things you know will happen: Marie has a yoga instructor related fiasco that is SO VERY Marie, and that so very badly embarrasses Shannon, but it's hysterical. Andrew and Declan's competitive streak shows it's face.

There were things I didn't quite expect (but liked). I really appreciated the growth in both Marie and James as they recognized and acknowledged some of their own parenting flaws.

There were things I didn't quite expect (but DIDN'T like). Terry and Greg both kept passing mentions. (Greg is mentioned in one sentence as a person at the baby shower, Terry get's a total of three sentences.) Greg this isn't as much of a bother to me as Terry is. He's about to be an uncle. And speaking of uncles...Andrew's only concern is how much more sex Declan is getting? There's NOTHING about what kind of uncle he'll try to be? Both Shannon and Declan come from families with siblings...we hear them talk about how they'll model their parenting after their parents, but not how ANY of the siblings want to be as aunts and uncles? Felt really odd to me, though I acknowledge Amanda, as best friend and aunt, makes her opinions known.

And then there was the "political for the sake of being political" sections placed. Sections added in that really and truly didn't fit the story that were clearly only their to bring up the topics, but then don't have much (if any) follow-up later. The time Declan notices that Shannon is treated significantly differently than him because she's a woman in the workforce, but then the conversation never progresses past that scene. The time Declan receives a call from HR that leads to him finding out the employee is not cisgender, which I might not have felt was a political move for the sake of being political if the employee wasn't just transferring from another department (as in, this would have previously been noted by HR). It's Shannon's nephew asking Marie if she got Chuckle's consent before putting him in costumes because he's "learning about consent at school", but then there being zero follow through with it. Like there were great statements that could have been made, but instead these little lines just needed to be dropped in. If they had just been expanded on...

I really didn't think it was possible to love a book couple as much I do Declan and Shannon.  Having read about this couple's bizarre beginnings, their ups and downs, their unfortunate events that have had me laughing, their tender heart-felt moments that have brought tears to my eyes, and now to be witness to them extending their family unit has been a very emotional journey.

But this IS Declan and Shannon so we know that it is not going to be plain sailing, and WOW! what a tidal wave they find themselves riding.

There is honestly so much I want to say but I try really hard not to give away any spoilers in my reviews, so here goes:

Shannon and Declan have decided to have a baby (no spoiler, it's kinda the whole point of the book) and as a mother I can say that I was there with her through each phase - the agony of trying to conceive followed by disappointment, morning sickness, food cravings, feeling horny, swollen ankles, being related to a whale, and let's not forget those all important mood swings (just to keep our husbands/partners on their toes!).  Shannon, bless her heart, doesn't do things by half either but Declan is on hand to help her through each stage.  I fell just a little more in love with Declan during this book and you will understand what I mean when you read it, his letter to Shannon was so beautiful I may have let a tear slip out. I was completely taken with the ending, could see it happening but did not expect the full extent of what did occur, or the emotional reaction between James and Declan in the hospital.

I don't think I will be able to look at a piece of clay in quite the same way again and don't even mention the word 'Unicoga' - I'm still giggling at that whole mess up...only Marie! She teaches me something new every book.

Speaking of, Marie is at her classic best again in this book.  Whether it is organising Shannon's baby shower or posting ads on Facebook, she never fails.

Dave is an intriguing character, I do hope we get a bit more of a backstory of him at some stage.

I know there are more books to come in this series and to be honest I don't think I can ever envision it ending. Great to see all our favourite characters from the series so far - Andrew and Amanda, Marie and Jason, James, Pam, Carol, Amy, Hamish, Josh, Greg, Gerald and Vince, with a surprise appearance from a familiar face of a different series.

If you have never read this series, START. It is an hilarious romantic comedy that will have you addicted from the very first page.

This is an ARC review although the book is currently available for pre-order and will be released on 24/04/18.

Thank you Julia, you did it again!

I never would have thought that getting pregnant could be so funny, but in this book, it is one laugh after another starting from the very first page. You go through the entire process, from conception all the way through birth and even when there is a tense moment, the pages prior and the ones following will have you smiling, and outright laughing and not only the situations but the conversations between the characters. This is a well written book with a storyline that many will identify with, although some of the situations are exaggerated for humor's sake. I mean, I don't even remember being that emotional when I was pregnant...although the food parts were on point! Declan was a saint for having to deal with the overly emotional Shannon, but you can see just how much he loves her even through his confusion.

The characters are well written and so entertaining and engaging that you can't help but fall in love with them. The supporting characters are a hoot, especially the older women in the story. One, Marie, Shannon's mother is a bit scatterbrained and naive to new terms and their meanings in that she holds Unioga class and the ad for it does bring in a crowd, however her excitement is short-lived when she finally finds out exactly what she advertised for. It was hysterical! And that is just one example. Then there are her two friends who have no filter, are "hot to trot" and rather handsy when it comes to Declan (or any man for that matter). I love those two. But it is our lead characters that will have you laughing, crying, getting a bit angry at times, but mostly laughing. Their hotness does not suffer in this book, although at one point Declan does feel like he's being used. But what these two do is communicate, and even with Shannon's self depreciation of her body, Declan calmly and physically shows her that she is still beautiful, even more so carrying their child. His love shines through brightly during these moments and will have you swooning as you read just how much he's attracted to his very pregnant wife, which is beautifully delivered. *aaahhhhhh*.

I so enjoyed reading this book and thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining journey from two people being a couple, to them becoming a family. Absolutely wonderful read and I highly recommend it.

I have to start by saying I am not up-to-date on the Shopping for a Billionaire series, I had hoped to be, but life. However, although it's a continuation and book 13, I didn't feel that I'd missed out when reading this book - we hear about some things that happen in past books and it just made me want to catch up with those books.

I love Julia Kent's writing style. It captures the reader's attention, pulls them into the story and keeps them invested until the very last page. The way she blends humour and emotion is a skill. I never fail to fall about laughing at the hilarious moments and there are plenty of them, and then cry at the emotional ones too. It really is a wonderful way to pass the hours, I really need to find more time to spend with Julia's characters - they brighten my day. I really love the covers for this series, and this book's cover is no exception. It's eye-catching and just really sweet.

This book is hilarious, so many laugh out loud moments. It's also quite emotional, for me at least, I think anyone that has tried to conceive will be able to empathise with these characters and what they're going through. I was able to identify with Shannon more in this book than any of the others I've read in the series. (No! We're not going to mention the phone down the toilet debacle). Conception is a touchy subject and I think it was handled with grace, care, and compassion. Not only showing the difficulties but also finding the humour in situations and how it can bring people together. It was beautiful to read.

These characters are freaking hilarious! I love them so much. Shannon's mother is one of the best fictional women ever! Shannon and Declan are such a wonderful couple and having spent a fair few hours with them and their story. It's so great to see them progressing through their happily ever again. Watching them grow together, and make the decision to expand their family, and all the ups and downs that entails. Declan has many swoon-worthy moments, I always forget just how charming he is, but he soon reminds me.
