It’s the most wonderful time of the year - or at least it would be, if one of the most popular witches in Riddler’s Cove hadn’t just been murdered.
When Winnie Wywood is found, strangled by festive ribbon and wrapped up like a present, there are two main suspects.
Suspect number one is the father of Wanda’s boyfriend, which might make the holiday period ever so slightly awkward.
Suspect number two is a woman who seems all too keen to admit to the murder.
Wanda hopes to track down the culprit before the Winter Solstice celebrations get underway. But there might be a little more to worry about than who killed Winnie ...

Yeah, hard pass. At this point I just want to know how she's going to conclude the story(minus the romance; because I know exactly what'll happen and I do NOT like it)
This is yet another stellar entry in the "Wayfair Witches" series! Wanda's attention is being diverted while the vaguest outline of a relationship quadrangle (with the potential to be a hexagon; how's THAT for a diversion?!) may be emerging, with two of the players possibly masked and a third exactly as perceived but simply mute. Questionable motivations certainly add dimension to characters, which makes for a livelier read. There are a couple of well-placed magical red herrings that serve as fine distraction, but the murder mystery is seemingly banal with a disappointingly ordinary motive...or is it? There are the subtlest of hints that lead this reader to believe there is an overriding story arc that are absolutely fascinating to follow...Book Six, here I come!
Why yes, I did finish this book in less than 24 hours because I didn’t want to put it down.
So much is happening in so few pages y’all! I didn’t know how it was all leading up until the mystery started being unraveled. I love how with each mystery the larger plot of the entire series keeps unfurling. I’m not sure where that’s quite leading to, but I am definitely here for the ride. I can’t believe I’m almost to the halfway point [There’s 11 books + 2 side stories].
This one made a few things clearer in regards to Wanda and her love life. And I am totally on board which I feel is why I’m still invested in this stories. It’s kind of hit or miss in that department (as it always is with ships).
I love how themed this was with Christmas and the Winter Solstice. It made it playful and fun even if it did have its usual dash of murder. I’m smitten with these lovable characters and can’t wait to see what happens next.
Just a stupidly ridiculous coincidence that made me happy is that I ended up reading this book on March 24-25... meaning exactly nine months until Christmas! Little things like that bring me large amounts of silly joy.
The mystery in this one was pretty good, but there’s honestly so much building up for the larger story arc in this one. More so than any of the previous books. That’s not being counted as a negative at all. It’s all getting very exciting. I need to start the next one ASAP because my gosh things are a-brewin’.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Another Good Mystery with a Long Running Background Story
This book and others in the series nicely mesh two stories into one novel. The first story is a murder mystery that starts because witches familiars come to Wanda when their witch is murdered. Each book has an interesting mystery to solve although the resolution is not always brilliant logic. The second story wends it’s way though the series. It develops the life, character, and relationships of Wanda to her family and friends.
Wanda isn’t as erudite as Sherlock and the story has a lot of focus on the characters, their follies, and their love lives. The series is fun to read and keeps you interested.
Such a wild array of caracters carreing you around the bend and back again paranormal and norm holidays all in a row makes for one humorous and warm loving read even with a murder at the beginning .This is one of those murder cozey mysterys that gives you the warm fuzzies not cold nightmares. If you enjoy Christmas, winter solstice and witches ,warlocks, werewolves ...rolled up in one great cozey aquier " Wrapping Up" so you can enjoy reading it as much as I have. 🤔🙄😏😉😏😀 Kat
Such a fun and wonderful read. Well, not fun for the murder victim, but it is the time of year for festivities! Wanda has a lot on her plate this year. And it’s more than just finding the perfect gifts for friends and family. In addition to all that, Gabriel is behaving horribly! I suspect that the only reason Wanda keeps taking him back, sorta, is because of the unidentified cologne he wears. This is not part of this book, just my own observations. Can’t wait to start on the next book!
The first book I've read of this series. Wanda must solve the murder of a beloved witch. I like the pace of the story. I like the humor. Instead of only cats for familiars, in here are different animals. There are plenty of suspects and motives, as well as Winter Solstice and Christmas celebrations.
Wanda gets a visit from 3 blind mice telling her their witch was murdered and her name is Winnie. No last name or where she lives. They found her by following the sent of her bat. First she has to find out her last name then who murdered her. The cast of characters and storylines where great. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Vegan weredogs and Santa Claus you know it's going to be good
Of course there's a murder and intrigue but throw in some yummy Christmas pastries and I'm hooked. There is also the holiday drama no matter what you call your celebration. Soo many emotions about soo many people. Will they find the killer in time to enjoy the festivities?
This time there are three blind mice familiars who want Wanda to help them find whoever murdered the person they were familiars for. There's some questions about Gabriel's father, a masked ball, Lassie (Max's cousin), a Solstice holiday and a woman that seems to complain about everything.
I love this series. The characters are well-written and the story lines are amazing. In this book the story carries on during Christmas. The crimes are hard to crack, when you think, you've figured out the mystery a new piece of information makes you second guess yourself. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
A great Christmas story with a strange murder to solve. With a lot of other happy things going on too. LoL that wasn't a typo, it's an itty bitty pun, I needed a T word for book, I was almost going to use title but thought Tome was a better fit.
The fact that she only seems to like the guy when she can smell his cologne or smell it on the gifts he gives her is a red flag, right? Like, I'm not the only one wondering why she doesn't mention this to anyone, am I? I love all things cinnamon, but if I only liked a guy when he smelled like cinnamon, I would not stay with him--magical world or not.

I am currently reading this book. But honestly who is Max? Her roommate, pet?? He's just there curling up on the couch with her and the 3 blind mice. An introduction would've been nice. He just appears from nowhere.
What a cute story. Werebears, witches, werewolves and a lot more. A death of a wonderful witch, caused many opposing sides to unite and find out who did it and why. Got introduced to new loved and old loved. Very entertaining story!
I don't have all the Wayfair Witches books, but each one has been really good. A good group of "other" paranormals, working together, as friends and co-workers. I'm really enjoying the AA Albright books.
The first two books in the series had me enticed. By the 3rd book I as over the main character, Wanda, but I hung in hoping for a little romance. I read up to book #7 and finally decided I’d enough.
The series because predictable and slow moving for me. If it gets better, someone let me know.
No matter whether you celebrate Solstice or Christmas, or both, murder shouldn't a part of the celebration. Good character development and fun plot twists abound.
