Alec dropped out of the shifters and partners program, disillusioned forever with the police. Now an unfairly handsome troubleshooter is here to try to tempt him back. To complicate matters, he might just be Alec's mate.
Despite their differences, Alec wants to make it work (as mates—not partners). But it'll take time for Dean to figure out what he wants. No matter the attraction between them, it might take an awfully long time.
Fortunately, Alec can be as patient as a tree...even if he can't keep his nose out of Dean's job...

Rating: 5 stars This was a very enjoyable read. This book was entirely from Alec’s point of view. I really loved how he recognized his mate and put himself out there to get his HEA. He went through so much prior to meeting Dean and it was wonderful that the events from the past didn’t prevent him from reaching for his future. He was the perfect partner for Dean and I could really see them living happily ever after at the end of the story. I loved that all the between the sheets action happened off page. It is really refreshing to read a story that isn’t just one long sex scene with a little plot thrown in.
The books in this series are getting better for me as time goes on. The good thing about this series is for the most part each book is stand alone. You can enjoy this book without having read any of the previous book in the series. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a romantic shifter story.
I thought I'd read this before. Maybe I just didn't put it into Goodreads at the time.
I wasn't surprised that a book of Ms. Shiloh's involved a slow burn. I thought Dean was something of a jerk about the relationship, though. Alec was relatively more emotionally balanced about the idea for a while, though Alec had his own share of emotional problems, mostly brought on by his former police partner.
Once Alec took an interest in life again, he turned out to be quite resourceful in his own way, and able to be sociable.
I liked the glimpse of Sahil being so typically Sahil. He's kind of the touchstone of the series, in his little-ball-of-fury sort of way. But he's able to be gentle with most of the shifter characters who need gentleness, so that's a point in his favor.
I enjoyed the book. I thought I'd listed it here a couple of years ago, but at least I have now.
Beautiful paranormal mm wold shifter/human romance adventure. A wolf shifter who was hurt in the past finds his mate, a human investigator for the shifters and partners program. Said human is more reluctant to commit. Along the way they manage to solve some cases and do some good. There's some philosophy thrown in, and a prescient warning of police violence and silence in the face of wrongdoing within their rants. All the loose ends are wrapped up by the end of the book. It was a bit of an emotional roller coaster following the wolf's mood swings.
