Deadknobs And Doomsticks is a collection of twelve illustrated short horror stories. Ranging from the darkly bizarre to the horrifically surreal, many of the stories are laced with a theme of bullying and bullies. Dark undertones and malevolent overtones interweave with characters and situations that pull the reader to the edge of their seat. Wit and black humour is prevalent through the stories, each with a delicious payoff for the reader. Joe Pasquale shows that where there is laughter there is also a dark and disturbing voice that is drawn to the horror genre to find its release. With illustrations by the author, this collection shows a rich depth of talent as an artist and author. Joe shows he has as unique a voice in the world of horror writing, as it is in comedy.
Well I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, I really brought it on a whim and the fact the title made me laugh. This book is made up of 13 short stories, some are extremely short like a page or 2. I think the book could of been better, the stories could of used more padding out. You just started to get into a story and it was over , on to something completely different. I'm not really sure what else I can say about the book. It's not the best book I've read but probably not the worst either. If you want a quick read that entails minimal thinking this is the book for you. It certainly is not a horror stories book as stated in the back of the book. Slightly dark but not horror.
This was a pretty BAD book. As a collection of short stories, I figured it would be interesting. I'm in a horror mood, and it says it was a horror collection. I was WRONG. I listened to the audiobook through hoopla, which was read by the author. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS! Whoever was in charge of the audio had s*** for recording because the audio is whiny, whistling, and just plain bad! Will not read (or listen) to anything by this author ever again.
