5 Stars. This one demonstrates the versatility of Agatha Christie in her presentation of Miss Jane Marple. You can find 32 entries in the Marple collection, of which 12 are novels and the rest short stories. Here are 7 of them - some of the very best. "Nemesis" belongs in the top drawer. Miss Marple met Jason Rafiel in the Caribbean while on holiday a year earlier. Such an interesting man. She reads of his passing, and soon afterwards receives a letter from his lawyer requesting a meeting. Would she undertake a challenge from Mr. Rafiel? Years earlier, a terrible crime had been committed. Can she serve as the nemesis for the real perpetrator? The other novel I salute is "The Moving Finger." Most recipients ignored them but one of the many poison pen letters circulating in Lymstock appears to hit its mark, and a suicide results. One of the other recipients makes a call to Miss Marple. There are three short stories in this BBC Radio 4 collection. "Tape-Measure Murder" is one of the best. How did Mrs. Spenlow die? She's been found at home with several people, including the police, trying to get in to help. In all, seven great ones. (April 2021)
