Stephen Hawking dikatakan boleh hanya bertahan hidup selama dua tahun akibat ALS. Lalu beliau mengurungkan diri. Kecewa.
Selepas itu, beliau terpaksa bergantung dengan kerusi roda. Umur dah lah tak panjang kemudian lumpuh pula.
Namun, beliau cekal melawan jiwa yang ‘koyak’. Beliau memilih untuk menyambung pengajian hingga ke PhD. Kematiannya bertangguh selama 55 tahun (bukan dua tahun), menjadikan beliau pemegang rekod dunia pesakit ALS dengan kematian tertangguh paling lama.
Daniel Smith ada menukilkan kata-kata “All my life I have lives with the threat of an early death, so I hate wasting time”.
Yup, dia tak nak buang masa. Rajin mentelaah pelajaran. Bukan sekadar tamat PhD bahkan tersohor sebagai tokoh ulung dalam bidang astrofizik.
Kata-kata berupa cabaran kepada diri sendiri ini saya sifatkan sebagai pencetus buat dirinya untuk berfikir secara kritis lalu menerbitkan transformasi makna daripada ‘koyak’ kepada tidak ‘koyak’.
Inilah cara berfikir beliau yang paling penting lagi mendasar iaitu BERFIKIR POSITIF. Dalam masa yang sama, beliau mampu melestarikan fikiran positif tersebut.
Ini termasuklah dengan gemar berjenaka dan menikmati muzik atau saya rumuskan sebagai BERFIKIR UNTUK MENSYUKURI DAN MERAIKAN KEHIDUPAN.
Syukurlah dengan apa yang ada. Walaupun lumpuh dan tak mampu berbicara secara lisan, beliau masih memiliki sejumlah nikmat untuk meraikan kehidupan.
Beliau juga meminati karya sci-fi. Dalam bidang penulisan, beliau berjaya mempopularkan karya sains khususnya menerusi 'A Brief History of Time'.
Dalam konteks ini, saya merumuskan beliau mempunyai elemen GAYA FIKIR SENSASI.
Saya fikir, buku ala 'HOW TO THINK LIKE...' ini mampu mengelakkan rasa bosan berbanding membaca buku asli biografi atau autobografi.
Terakhir, walaupun ada disebutkan yang Profesor ini mulhid/atheis, namun saya lihat beliau dari sisi berbeza iaitu beliau BERFIKIRAN DAN BERKEPERCAYAAN AGNOSTIK.
Selepas itu, beliau terpaksa bergantung dengan kerusi roda. Umur dah lah tak panjang kemudian lumpuh pula.

Great insight into Stephen Hawking's world through a different kind of lens. The title of this book shouldn't be taken literally, however. it's not "teaching" you how to think like Hawking. But I'd describe this book as inspirational, as what it does show is how one can battle the most difficult situations and still become successful.

Misled by the title, as I have found myself more times than I care to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. This is not an instruction manual or "For Dummies" guide, but a celebration of the qualities that made Hawking the marvel of a man that he was. Suffice it to say, How to Think Like Stephen Hawking is a beautiful commemoration of unparalleled intellect and character.

I think everyone who is familiar with the name ‘Stephen Hawking’ will all be in a similar agreement with how much of an amazing and iconic man he became and the groundbreaker that he was. With all of his mind blowing contributions to science along with the hurdles and adversity he faced throughout his life; who wouldn’t want to think like him?!
This book was a great little read. Transversing throughout the life of such an awe inspiring man, from his beginnings, to his academic career, his publications and his contributions to the scientific community, to be able to think like Stephen hawking would be something most would love to be able to strive towards.
Within the book you learn not only about this incredible mans life, but also about the mindset to strive towards the unthinkable. And often, into the unchartered unknown.
I found myself easily devouring this book, and the short but concise chapters with some fantastic quotes for good measure, really made this for some enjoyable reading! A recommended read for all to be inspired by the life and works of such an incredible human being.

It really wasn't that good, it was essentially just his life story and quotes from his books. Was a fast and easy read, but not worthwhile.

A watered down biography, easy and quick to read, some fun quotes and anecdotes. Some sections were really interesting but that's more down to it being about Stephen Hawking rather than the writing. There wasn't really any extra insights that a fan of Hawking wouldn't already be aware of. I'll add this one quote just for fun though.
"He had a reputation, for instance, of discreetly using his wheelchair against those who vexed him. He once ran over the toes of the Prince of Wales, although it was not clear whether Prince Charles had 'earned' the assault or was a victim of some errant vehicular control on Hawking's part. Nonetheless, when friends called out the scientist on the incident years later, he professed that he wished to be able to do the same to the then prime minister, Margaret Thatcher."

Comment penser comme S. Hawking ? J'avoue que j'ai été un peu bernée par ce titre étant très intéressée par les sciences ; cependant, il ne s'agit pas de ce à quoi je m'attendais : il s'agit plus d'une biographie de Hawking flanquée de quelques conseils qu'une réelle description de ses travaux et des remarques sur comment il y a abouti, e qui aurait plus relevé selon moi d'une explication de sa manière de penser que l'œuvre que j'ai tenue entre mes mains.
Néanmoins, la surprise passée, ce livre m'a beaucoup renseignée sur le parcours de cet illustre scientifique et sur la répercussion internationale et médiatique de ses travaux.

Il libro è stato una mezza delusione. Volendo tenersi alla larga dalla natura di biografia, non sa se essere carne o pesce e questo è un gran peccato perchè l'idea di partenza - raccontare Hawking attraverso il suo pensiero - era molto interessante. Invece ci si imbarca in un breve e purtroppo decisamente superficiale resconto della vita del cosmologo con annessi "insegnamenti". Ho trovato molto più della vita di Hawking che del suo pensiero. Non è abbastanza, purtroppo. Interessanti i numerosi aneddoti, anche se non del tutto nuovi per chi ha avuto modo di leggere Breve Storia del Tempo. Insomma, niente di che.

This book has made me feel closer to the life of Stephen Hawking. The way he thought about ideas and social life are well described in this book (essentially his journey in life as a human). According to the title, It’s obvious you can see that this book will give you all the genius mind of Stephen Hawking’s perspective on ideas and life which in fact, that’s all what we can get by reading the book. Overall, for those who are looking for inspirations, this book has to be counted as consideration.

I for real like the format of this short biographies by Daniel Smith. It is a great insight into famous people's lives and work, their interviews and ideas. Considering the fact that lots of my friends have a physics degree, I am immersed in this science. So, learning about the eccentric Hawking, his heritage and personal life was one of the ways to impress my close ones😂 He was freaking clever negotiator)

Це швидше коротка біографія Стівена Гокінга, ніж книжка, яка описує спосіб його мислення чи його ідеї. Достовірність описаного викликає сумніви після прочитання рядка про "надзвукові" двигуни, які досліджував вчений(за це мною була знята додаткова зірка рейтингу).

I enjoyed reading this book for sure. It slightly tends to be a biography but the author, Daniel Smith, try to presents about many other factors excluding his ability that shaped the way Stephen Hawking thinking untill became an extraordinary scientist.

I really loved this book, I read it in two days. You get a very good insight into his life. Anyone who loves science and loves Hawing I defiantly recommend!
