Chance Crawford and Kit Gibbons are on the cusp of an epic office romance. After months of saying hi in the elevator and making small talk at parties, they’re both dying to make a move. Too bad neither of them can work up the courage. Nerdy, risk-averse Chance is waiting for Kit to give him a sign, whereas Kit’s too afraid of being out in his professional life to date the ...more

On Solid Ground is my first book I have read by Quinn Anderson book, but it certainly will not be my last. This was super sweet story about being brave and finally taking risks to find love.

Chance Crawford is the nerdy, but adorable, IT guy who has a big crush on Kit Gibbons. They met at a party a few months ago, but Chance is scared to make the first move. Kit is trying to work his way up the corporate ladder, and is nervous that the “boys club” will give him a hard time be
A nice mix of action and character driven plot.

Two young co-workers who've been eyeing each other from afar are trapped in a crumbling high-rise when an earthquake strikes in the middle of the workday. After heroically helping some others get out, they are left to hope for rescue before the rest of the building comes crashing down on top of them.

With nothing to do other than get to know each other (and survive), the truth comes out and they're able to make that romantic connection they were both

I'm not feeling this. The earthquake stuff was actually quite exciting, but the romance really lacked some chemistry.

What a sweet story! If you want to smile, this one will work just fine.

It started out a bit slow, but once it picked up it definitely worked for me. The characters were interesting and well developed, and the story was creative and flowed well. It was beautifully edited.

I'd look for this author again.

Only Quinn Anderson may be trusted to take a situation where everything could be lead by circumstances and make it believable that what's happening between the characters is real.

This was honestly such a great story! I loved it so, so much. The pace was perfect, and even if it was a short story, the characters still had a smooth evolution, with the time being just right. The buildup was flawless! And the chemistry! These two were adorable, I swear. Swoon, swoon.

After the world ended, everything was dark.

Trapped in a collapsing office building, cut off from the outside world, Kit and Chance not only have to face their fears but also their repressed feelings for each other.

Despite the tragic aftermath that comes with a natural disaster I found Chance and Kit's story sweet and less dark than you might expect, even though the events brought bac

First things first... the narrator's name is Chance Crawford. (raises eyebrow) Any Gossip Girl fans? Who else envisioned Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) while reading this novella?

Now that my snark has passed, let's move on to the review itself, shall we?

This is an instance of a novella perfectly crafted, the content written in a way where the reader doesn't feel as if anything was left out, or th

I don’t think I’ve read a Quinn Anderson book yet that I haven’t loved, and On Solid Ground was no exception.

I loved Kit and Chance, they were absolutely sweet together and although it’s slow going and I wasn’t quite sure they’d give into their attraction before I (and they) died of sexual frustration, they fit perfectly together and when they did finally give in, it was passionate and explosive.

I really loved the storyline, an earthquake plot is really unique, well, for me anyway, I

Deceptive cover. Two men in suits holding hands above, what appears to be, a cavernous gorge before the cracked ground. Author font is good, color is ok. Title has a split font that I am not a fan of. First glance, the appearance was just enough to catch my attention to read the synopsis. The synopsis intrigued my inner natural disaster nerd and demanded that I read this book.

I confess to initially not feeling so brave to pick this book up due to the disaster element and being trapped alive in the aftermath. I usually stay cleared of such kind of story fearing I got too invested and stressed out along with the characters in it. I’m glad I shoved my cowardly inner voice aside, though. Despite the predictable stressing along, I really enjoy “On Solid Ground.”

It starts with a bang, a scene that drawn me straight away, then flash back to hours earlier. The give

I have read almost all of Quinn Anderson's stories and this is my favorite so far....

It opens with this line " After the world ended, everything was dark. " ... it should set a grim tone to the whole story, shouldn't it? Fortunately, Anderson didn't put this reader's heart in too much stress.

Yes, Kit and Chance are both trapped in their office building after earthquake, enduring aftershocks while (hopefully) waiting for rescue. BUT the situation instead makes for intense (a

Quinn Anderson is my go-to for cute, fun, sexy reads with the best HEAs. On Solid Ground goes in a completely different direction. From the very first sentence, the author piles on the tension. I've never personally experienced an earthquake, but with detailed descriptions and perfect conveyance of emotions, I felt like I was right in the middle of the disaster and its aftermath. As the MCs are choking on dust-filled air, my throat clenched and I had to make a conscious effort to breathe. I'm pr ...more

Life at the office is mundanely the same for both Chance Crawford and Kit Gibbons. For Chance, it’s the stress of being on-call to answer and fix any and all IT questions the multi-floor building offers up, and for Kit, it’s dealing with executives who aren’t always the most fiscally responsible—especially his direct boss. Kit also has the added worry of hiding his sexuality from those he works with, because he fears he will be denied promotion, or be ostracized by his peers, if he

"Going through this with you has made it obvious to me that if this is my last day, there's no one I'd rather spend it with."

Kit Gibbons has an image to uphold at work and it doesn't include being out to his old-school corporate colleagues. But that also means he'll never really get to know the cute IT guy, Chance Crawford. When an earthquake traps Kit and Chance in their building, survival is their first worry. But as daylight wanes, they realize rescue isn't

As someone who reads a ton (like, A TON) of contemporary m/m romance, I'm pretty used to the standard formula. I'm not saying all books are the same, but so few these days really jump out and stick with me after reaching the end. But On Solid Ground did just that. It's different in almost all aspects.

This book takes place over the course of about 24 hours, give or take two or three. Now, with that short time frame, there are a couple things I was expecting and a bit wary of,

I tend to like forced proximity kind of stories where extreme situations test our heroes and bring intensity to their relationship. So I was drawn to this book right away by the trapped in the earthquake theme and I think Anderson does a nice job with this aspect of the story. The first half or so of the book focuses on the lead up to and the aftermath of the earthquake. We see a bit of the guys going about their day at work, and then witness the earthquake and t

My Review:

This is a short story, both in length of the book and the amount of time that the story covers...basically twenty-four to forty-eight hours surrounding the earthquake, but it felt perfect. I really thoroughly loved this story.

Chance and Kit work in the same office building, but not in the same office. Nevertheless, they've run across one another enough that they are both hiding a secret crush for the other. But the events surrounding their interactions means that they really don't even

Chance and Kit have been crushing on each other for a long time, however, Kit isn't sure if he's ready to come out in his workplace even for Chance. When an earthquake hits San Francisco and they're left trapped in their office building, they will need to decide if they should give into their attraction and if they do and they survive, will anything really come out of it when they are back on solid ground?

A single life-altering earthquake traps Kit and Chance alone together in an unstable office building. In a matter of minutes, the two strangers are forced into an intimacy only forged in a life or death situation.

I loved everything about this story. The novella format perfectly captures the abrupt intensity of Kit and Chance’s experiences over a few short days. There is very little build up to the earthquake. At the start, bot

This novella center's around chance and Kit, two men who work in the same building and both harbor an attraction for the other, though neither has acted on it. One is out and proud...the other slightly closeted.

An earthquake hits the cit and their building is hit hard. They are trapped inside, and during their time, they confess their feelings. That's basically the book in a nutshell. Their time together trapped is less than a day, so it's not a ton of time for a huge story arc.

This is a really clever story, which definitely had me on the edge of my seat, and most definitely cheering on their opportunity to finally come clean about how they feel about each other. The earthquake elements were very vividly written, and between Die Hard, and every earthquake movie ever written, I was right there with collapsing walls, glass all over the floor, and lack of comms.

I love disaster stories whether it's a book or a movie so I thought that I'd love this one but it ended up just being good for me and didn't really stand out. The characters are nice and likable but I didn't really connect to either of them. The earthquake part was intense but I was never really truly worried that they wouldn't survive, so some of the edge of your seat was missing and I can't even say for sure why. The time span is really 24 hours and although both men have been harboring a bit ...more
