A treasure of Eucharistic devotional writings and examples from the Saints showing their stirring Eucharistic love and devotion. Originally written in Italian, this latest edition is the most complete and accurate English translation. It is the most popular of the Academy of the Immaculate books. A valuable aid for reading meditatively before the Blessed Sacrament.
A wonderful little book to take with you to Adoration. It is full of inspirational quotes, pictures, vignettes and prayers to enhance your time before the Blessed Sacrament. Highly recommended!
Great collection of reflections of the Eucharist, a lot based around the witness and stories of the Saints. Many stories surrounded their ‘radical’ devotion to the Eucharist (in comparison to culture’s), and how their practices weren’t actually radical in comparison to the magnitude of Christ’s presence in the Eucharist.
Very beautiful book. Another gem! I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't read it yet, and if you have read it, read it again! :) I will be coming back to this one for sure. Again, anyone who believes this would never EVER have shuttered the Churches and Holy Mass like the Bishops did during Covid. Reading this book and seeing that action is like seeing two different religions play out.
A few gems out of the MANY in the book: (Quoting St. John Bosco) "...was also saddened at the sight of many Christian's who, when in church, where 'voluntarily distracted, showing neither modesty, attention, nor respect, standing (at times for kneeling) and gazing here and there. They do not assist at the Divine Sacrifice like Mary and St. John, but they are like the Jews - putting Jesus again on the Cross!'" (page 27) (Quoting St. Bernadette) "Masses are being celebrated in the different parts of the world every hour. I unite myself to all these Masses, especially during those nights when I cannot sleep." (page18) (Quoting St. Augustine) "Every step one takes while traveling to hear Holy Mass is counted by an angel. One will be given a high reward for them by God in this life and in eternity." "It is enough to commit oneself to follow attentively the priest at the altar. In this way one overcomes more easily the distractions and boredom. And on Sundays, one should not go in search for - and some do - the shortest Mass, simply because they can hardly wait for Mass to end!" (page 24) (Quoting the Cure of Ars, St. John Vianney) " All good works taken together cannot equal the value of one Holy Mass; because they are the works of men, whereas Holy Mass is the work of God." (page 30) (Quoting, Servant of God, Louise M. Claret de la Touche) "What need I fear? He who sustains the world is within me. The Blood of a God circulates within my veins. Have no fear, O my soul. The Lord of the universe has taken you into His arms and desires you to find rest in Him." (page 50)
This whole book continues like this!! I cannot recommend it enough.
I'm totally blown away by this book. Although it is not thick, it takes a while to finish. It transforms the way one views and participates in the Mass and encourages one to have visit and spend time with the Blessed Sacrament.
Scriptural text as well as the teachings and examples of the Saints' devotion to the Holy Eucharist are used in the substantiation of the Holy Eucharist.
One of quotes used that struck me is,
"All the good works in the world are not equal to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass because they are the works of men; but the Mass is the work of God. Martyrdom is nothing in comparison for it is but the sacrifice of man to God; but the Mass is the sacrifice of God for man." - St John Vianney
I loved this book very much. It changed the way I see the Holy Mass and the Eucharist, treasures of our Catholic Church. Not only that, it changed the way I participate in the Mass. I started to pay more attention and see the richness and beauty of the prayers and how wonderful it is to be there. I love this book dearly and recommend it to everyone! ♥
A good book to read during an Adoration hour. Throughout the book various saints and scripture are cited to help further one's love and appreciation of the true gift God has given us in the Holy Eucharist. I also liked how the final chapter provides many prayers to pray for preparing for or thanking God for the Eucharist.
I found this book by taking my spiritual director's advice and finding a book on the Eucharist that was filled with saints' perspectives on the Blessed Sacrament. I was not disappointed. Wonderful short sections chock full of quotes from the saints on the majesty of the Lord in the Sacrament of Sacraments. Take it to the chapel or read it in your favorite chair (or maybe better on your knees). Major sections include the Mass, Communion, adoration, the priest, and of course the Blessed Mother. A few prayers and the miracle of Lanciano close out the book. A book to work through time and timeaagain.
I don't mean to be insulting when I call this a sweet, adorable and precious little book. It truly is a refreshingly innocent and nearly naive, loving look at the holy eucharist, through quotations from the saints. Not all of the author's suggestions are practicable outside of a monastery, but the love with which he regards the sacrament is beautiful and inspiring.
