It Worked

I was obviously attracted to the synopsis of the book or I wouldn't have opted to read it, but I was not certain if it would work between a southern lady and a northern general. She had lost her father, brother, and fiancée in the Civil War; so her hatred for the Yankees would run deep. However, the growth was slow and believable. Apparently, it was inspired by a romance in the author's very own ancestry.

I would have liked to learn more about what happened to them afterward. I would have enjoyed reading about their honeymoon to Italy and if they moved out west after all. However, it seems the next book in the series has new main characters.

Her Traitor's Heart

Well written southern historical fiction. Takes place during the reconstruction period following the Civil War. The southern people still greatly resented the Yankees for taking away their way of life and leaving them poverty stricken and suffering great loss of life in every family. For a southern belle to fall in love with a Yankee was a major no-no. This story tells how love conquers anger. Well written. I look forward to reading more from this talented author.

Well written and accurately researched sweet and clean Civil War Reconstruction romance with a lovely cover. Coral loses everything during and after the Civil War to include her family, fiance, and Elmwood, her plantation. However, a Yankee General takes pity on her and offers her protection and an office position. Without much choice, she accepts it not realizing that feelings between the two, despite the ongoing hatred between the Yanks and Rebs, are growing. Many issues revolve around this which must be resolved before any commitment. Always enjoy a historical novel whereby I learn something, however, the timing aspects of ongoing rescues border fantastical. Yet, it is realized to maintain adventure and accuracy within a clean frame, this couldn't be avoided for the most part. Recommended for anyone who enjoys reading about this era in time.

As a lover of Civil War history, this book was spot on. I love the setting. The author uses many descriptive words and paints a very clear picture for the reader. Coral is a very likable main character. You can feel her struggle to remain loyal to her south, but cannot stop her feelings for her "enemy", Clint. Highly recommend reading this novel. Sequel, please!

Good

this story is one that shows how hard it was for people in the south after the civil war to accept the union army.

For those of you who don't know (and who reads my reviews, I wonder), I reserve 5-stars for books which really impact me in some way.

So, a 4-star means a very good book. I truly appreciate the research that went into this book. The Reconstruction period breaks my heart (I am from the South after all) and the tragedies people endured are terrible.

I had a difficult time believing anyone could recover as quickly as the heroine did. I would have been mired by bitterness, despite my Christian faith...I have some issues to work out, I guess, but the loss of so many family members and her home. Yeah, no, I would not recover in a matter of months.

However, I truly enjoyed the romance between the two main characters and I loved learning new history facts.

After the Civil War, Coral Leigh met a decorated General Union Army soldier, Clint Logan. Coral Leigh had lost her family and her home during the war. Clint helped her by giving her a job and moving her to town. Love comes slowly between the two.

This was a slow moving novel for me. The characters were believable with personalities. A lovely romance between a southern bell and a northern general that stayed in the army to help reconstruct the south. The settings were realistic and well described. The story reflected the hardships the South had after the war and accepting help from the North. I enjoyed this story.

This book and the 2nd book in this series were suggested to me. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next in the series. Coral Leigh is a spoiled southern belle who has lost her father, brother and fiancé in the war and her mother dies soon after. General Clint Logan is a Calvary officer stationed in Columbia South Carolina following the end of the Civil War. I think this book did a great job of describing what was going through the minds of people at the time. It must have been very hard to put the past behind them and move forward but Coral and Clint manage with God’s help to do that. I believe anyone who loves a good clean historical romance would enjoy this book.

This book will open your eyes to Civil War history
She is a widow -- and an orphan. No-one in her family survived and she finds it very hard. And to top it all off, she MUST pay the back taxes on her home or lose it!!! And everything that was worth anything was stolen!! The Colonel in charge is understanding, but there is nothing he can do! She tries to grow vegetable’s but they are stolen as well!!! As a last resort she gets a job working for the Colonel!!! This is a superb book and it really opened by eyes to the history of the Civil War.

I won this book from the author! I hadn't read any romances yet this year and this was a sweet (and very tame) historical romance. I actually learned some things I didn't know about life in the South after the Civil War and I enjoyed the characters. All the chivalry, politeness, and rules of engagement. I have already purchased and downloaded the second book in the series :)

Her Traitors Heart

One of the best books I have read in awhile. Romance, adventure, heartache and healing it has it all . It's about changes and loyalty. Colleen Hall is a wonderful storyteller. But most of all I loved that it was Christian based and faith in the forerunner.
