Lady Fiona McDougal embodies the wild spirit of Scotland, untamed and free. If only her future could be the same, but she is bound by duty to marry well for the sake of the title. As her heart and necessity battle only one answer arrises time and again, Colin Campbell. But he is the one man who refuses to court her.
Colin has loved Fiona for as long as he can remember. Her fiery spirit and matching hair, fill him with a warmth that no other woman can match. But Colin's father has long made him promise that he will choose a wife for reasons other than love.
No matter what is “expected” of her, Lady Fiona McDougal’s heart can only belong to one man, a man who was once her best friend, the only man around not vying for her hand and her wealth. How could Fiona have fallen so deeply for Colin? How could he not feel the same? Time is running out on the fiery Fiona’s freedom as the time has come to do her duty to her father and her position and choose a husband. Too bad no one can ever hold a candle to the passionate heat she feels around Colin Campbell.
As for Colin, Fiona has held his heart in her hands for years, but duty to family and a promise made to his father will force him to marry for practical purposes, never love. No matter what, Fiona is his perfect match, a match he can never make.
Tammy Andresen brings us another wickedly wonderful, perfectly passionate, highland romance with HEART OF A HIGHLANDER. Ms. Andresen takes the “old rules” of love and marriage versus duty and marriage and proves that the heart knows best and when cornered, a woman in love will travel to the ends of the earth for that one special man.
Ms. Andresen’s style is fascinating, easy to read and filled with turmoil, humor and characters that one cannot help but adore! We've met them before, but now we get the "rest of the story." Feisty Fiona is that woman who speaks her mind, except maybe when it comes to Colin. Colin is that man for whom feeling love is terrifying, all because of the words of his ailing father. As always, they are the last to admit the truth and getting to that point is sheer reading delight!
I received a complimentary ARC edition!

Heart of a Highlander is the second book in Tammy Andresen’s A Laird to Love series, and it’s even more enjoyable than the first book.
Last year I worked my way through Tammy Andresen’s Taming the Heart series. I enjoyed each of the stories, finding myself wanting more after each one. When the chance came about to start Tammy Andresen’s new series, A Laird To Love, I found myself more than willing to dive in.
Christmastime With My Captain provided an extremely short story that introduced me to the A Laird To Love series, and desperately left me wanting more. It was short, but it provided all I love about a Tammy Andresen novel. Whilst I really enjoyed Christmastime With My Captain, it is merely a blip on the radar considering how much I’ve enjoyed My Enemy, My Earl and Heart of a Highlander.
My Enemy, My Earl, the first book, won me over in no time at all. It left me wanting more, desperate to see where the next story would take us. I found myself overly excited for the stories that were to come, in dire need of more from the characters I’d enjoyed so much. I knew I would enjoy the future books, yet I enjoyed Heart of a Highlander even more than I’d anticipated.
Heart of a Highland was typical of Tammy Andresen in a number of ways – and none of these ways are negative. It was a quick and easy read, one you can complete in a single sitting. Despite the length, there was more than enough to keep you griped throughout. Plenty occurs, ensuring you are addicted to every page, be it due to the romance, the drama, or something more.
I think my favourite element was the type of love story we were given. Never before have I read a historical romance that used the friends-to-lovers trope, and I loved it. It was what we all love about the friends-to-lovers storyline, occurring within a historic backdrop. The couple were wonderful together, I loved watching how their relationship developed, but the main thing to win me over was how rare it is to find such a trope in this genre.
If you enjoyed My Enemy, My Earl then you’re sure to love Heart of a Highlander. Everything I’ve come to love about Tammy Andresen was evident throughout this story, and I cannot wait to read book three. In fact, I’m overly eager for A Scot’s Surrender.
Second in the A Laird to Love series brings us Colin and Fiona who were introduced in "My Enemy, My Earl". The two had grown up together and were the best of friends, but times change as they are now adults. Fiona is being pressured by her father to marry and chose a suitor. There are several problems though! Her heart is already taken by Colin and she cannot find any feelings for any other suitor. Plus she will not be a biddable wife which is what most of them want! Colin has grown up being taught by his father that to love would destroy him so only marry someone that he will not feel strong affection. But Colin has the same problem as Fiona. He is having a hard time resisting his best friend that has grown into a beautiful strong minded woman! There are many factors at play in this story that is brought to life in the characters and emotions. The twist and turns will keep you turning the pages and as in any Tammy Andresen story, you will be fully engaged!!
Heart Of A Highlander by Tammy Andresen is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has delivered a well-written book. I love the characters in this book. They are phenomenal. Colin and Fiona's story is loaded with drama, action, humor, sizzle and misunderstandings. Heart Of A Highlander was a totally fun book to read and I look forward to reading more from Tammy Andresen in the future. Heart Of A Highlander is book 2 of the A Laird To Love Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Fiona is a rebel and never does what one would think! The very tomboyish lass falls in love with her best friend, Colin. Unfortunately Colin is avoiding love at all costs...hmmm. Good book with fast paced action and some hilarious moments.
I'm really enjoying this series. It has a light, fun feel and also a serious, emotional side to it. Love the characters! Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Colin Campbell can remember from the time he was five years old his fathers dire warnings - not to marry for love and passion as it will break his heart, but to marry someone strong and capable. His father’s first wife had died in childbirth. Fiona McDougal has been his best friend and confidant ever since he was a young boy, but lately after one scorching kiss his feelings for her are more towards lustfull feelings. Fiona is out of time her father has given her an ultimatum either she chooses a husband or he’ll do it for her. How can she choose when all she could think about is Colin, and he deserted her after the most amazing kiss of her life! Fiona is confused, angry and ecstatic to find that Colin is at the summit of lairds, she needs to find a husband but with Colin acting the jealous suitor how will that be possible. Colin would keep his father’s advice even though in his heart of hearts he knows it will cost him the woman he loves.
He needs to make a decision before he leaves for the highlands can he have the woman he loves or will his fathers warnings come true. Is his life without Fiona worth the heartache he feels at the thought of another man taking her to wife.
A wonderful novella of friends to lovers romance, this was well written with witty dialogue and conflicting emotions. A spitfire heroine and a hero so torn about his feelings for the woman he loves that he was always a surly bear. Loved the secondary characters they added drama and humour to our couples antics. This was the perfect read an enchanting romantic love story! I can’t wait to read Keiran and Agnes’s story. I was gifted a complimentary copy from the author for my honest unbiased opinion.
4.5 Stars Will a spark between two childhood friends light into a flame Lady Fiona McDougal embodies the wild spirit of Scotland, untamed and free.. As her heart and necessity battle only one answer arises time and again, Colin Campbell. But he is the one man who refuses to court her. Colin has loved Fiona for as long as he can remember. Her fiery spirit and matching hair, fill him with a warmth that no other woman can match. A very enjoyable book of friends to lovers with misunderstandings along the way too. Fiona & Colin are very likeable but at times I wanted to shake the pair of them. They’ve grown up together & have been the best of friends & both are in love in with the other but Colin’s father has stressed for years that Colin shouldn’t marry for love so like a dutiful son Colin hasn’t pursued Fiona. The story is well paced & there is plenty of humour surrounding the pairs jealousy.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Another wonderful story by Tammy Andresen! I knew from reading other books by her that Fiona was going to be quite a handful, and I was right! She has more spirit than most men cared for in that day and age. Men wanted quiet, demure, dutiful wives. I'm afraid Fiona is anything but that. She has spirit and unfortunately these suitors that are put in her path, don't quite care for it except for making things interesting in bed. Colin, on the other hand, doesn't take to this suitor business well at all, but it's kind of his fault that she's in the position she is. Being forced to find a husband would be my worst nightmare and apparently it is for Fiona too. I really liked Colin and felt bad for the situation he was in with his father. That man really messed with his head. Over all it was a great read!
Fiona was a feisty girl with the fiery red hair to match. She grew up around boys that she would not think twice about taking down and Fiona could do take them down with the best of them. Haggis is tired of her shenanigans and wants to see her married off. Fiona wants nothing to do with that game because she has had eyes for Colin. Colin's dad has put bad thoughts in his head about love and, feeling like Fiona deserves more, refuses to marry her. When circumstances change and the men come to meet Fiona, Colin's mean streak comes out. Fiona just wants one man but can the man realize what he has in front of him is the best for him? Another great read. There is some laughter, romance, and some jealous shenanigans by the other guys.
Fiona and Colin grew up together and were good friends. He always admired her spunk and fiery red hair. She was never afraid to stand up for herself, even among the boys. As grown ups new feelings started to develop and Fiona was soon in love with Colin, but, Colin's father made him promise never to marry for love. Try as Colin might not to be in love with Fiona he could not deny it, but a series of misunderstandings always seem to tear them apart. This is a fun read and very entertaining. So far I feel this is one of the author's best books. I received an ecopy in exchange for an honest review.
Another wonderful book in series. This book had my interest from start. Knew a little of characters from series book 1. Truly liked H and h. She so strong, independent, and reckless, had hard time acting like a lady. The hero was strong, tender, very kind and protective.I like author’s books, no villain monster, death threats, just human relationship, so sweet. At times seemed they would never get together, but all loose ends tied so well. Everything made sense. There were tender steamy love scenes, adding to relationship. Loved this book, and highly recommend. I would recommend series read in order, because of reoccurring characters.
Fiona has loved Colin for years and although Colin has feelings for Fiona, he doesn’t intend to act on them due to the advice of his father. Fiona’s father has decided its time for Fiona to marry and takes her to meet potential suitors. However, Fiona is only interested in marrying Fiona. There are quite a few misunderstandings on both sides as both Colin and Fiona’s are quite strong characters. This was an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading the rest in the series.
Well written and well-paced. Enjoyable characters especially the spirited Fiona. She wanted to marry for a love and passion that was wild and free as she was. Due to a misguided “brainwashing” from his father, Colin creates such a mess by denying his true feelings. With Heart of a Highlander you get drama, humor, misunderstandings, and friend to lovers happily ever after.
Another sweet read by Tammy Andresen. This novella is well paced. The characters have a sizzling chemistry. There are lots and lots of misunderstandings which made me want to shake some sense into the hero and heroine. And I couldn't help but feel sorry for Fiona's father. The ending of the last regular chapter made me laugh out loud. This is such a great book. I highly recommend it.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 I do like Tammy’s books , this is a great story , it moves back and forth between the two main characters, just when you think you've cracked it and they are made for each other, it throws another curve ball , and off it goes again . A real pleasure to read .
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
** I volunteered to read an advance reviewer copy of this book. **
I smiled from the first page to the last. A wonderfully classy and beautiful story that easily could have played out in the past. Bold and brash with tender and intelligent components, these are traits I always enjoy seeing in the spirit and wit of a character.
I so enjoyed reading this book, it has everything I love in a Scottish historical romance book:) At times I wanted to smack Colin upside the head to smarten him up about not wanting to tell Fiona how he felt but eventually all worked out well. Fiona makes the perfect heroine, so feisty!! Can't wait to read the rest of the series now!!!
Fiona is feisty and Colin in denial, but there true love wins out. There is laughter, worry, fighting, intense scenes. Just another really good read! Highly recommend!
Still loving this series, this book is exciting and very romantic! Loved the way they met and fell in love. Would recommend reading this book by Tammy Andresen!
Another wonderful story from Tammy Andresen. This is the second book in the A Laid to Love Series this book can be read as a stand alone. We first met Fiona McDougal in book one and she is as much of a free spirt here as she was in the first book. Fiona's long time (and recently kissed) friend Colin Campbell has been told from when he was young to not marry for love. Fiona has been given the ultimatum to chose a husband soon or have him chosen for her by her father. Yet choosing one is hard when her friend Colin raging like a lover. I love reading the interactions of this family. They are so much fun. I can't wait for the next story. I was gifted this ARC.
