This book was easy to get into. The characters, the story...I enjoyed it all.

Gabrielle is a selfless individual. She works two jobs to support her father, she takes care of him, until he creates a mess that she has to fix. She becomes the PA to the reclusive actor, Deacon Santoro. This is to keep Deacon from prosecuting her father for trespassing and staging a protest on the actors property, accusing him of being at fault for the car accident that took Gabrielle's aunt's life.

Yes, the situation that gets Gabby into the the home of Deacon is a little complicated. The main thing is that she finds that not everything is clear cut. There are pieces of the story that don't add up. As a librarian, and journalist, Gabby knows that she can get to the bottom of it and find the truth. But she didn't plan on Deacon being a good and kind man.

The book had many of the aspects of Beauty and the Beast. Deacon is scarred, both emotionally and physically. Gabby is a person to look past the outward appearance and see the heart of the person in front of her. I did miss Gaston, I didn't find a character that I could claim as him. The teacups didn't come to life and I missed the candlestick. I guess that there is only so much of the fairy tale that can make it into a contemporary romance. :)

This book has innuendo and fade to black romance scenes.

Oh look! Another retelling of Beauty and the Beast…and here I go…Again!

Ok so this was a sweet, ok read 2.5-3 ⭐️)This book was very tame, and was the equivalent of brain soap for me. You know how when you are a kid and a parent threatens to wash your mouth out with soap after you spew some dirty words? Well, recently I have been reading a lot of kindle “adult” books and this book was like the soap to clean my brain of all the insta dirty love I have read.

Here is the scoop. The heroine(Gabrielle)ends up working for the hero(Deacon) to prevent her father from being charged with a crime by the hero. She has to work as his PA for 3 months and is not allowed to leave the estate located on/ near a Malibu beach.

The heroine believes that the actor hero killed her aunt in a car crash because no one is getting to the bottom of it and the hero won’t say anything about the details(he can’t, he lost his memory). So while the heroine works for the reclusive actor in his stately manor, she plans to give a certain tabloid daily reports(future black moment, you can count on)

The heroine stays in the guest house and is only allowed email and phone contact with the H since he thinks he is a hideous eyesore and possible killer. He has a mail slot at the manor house that she can put things through if it can’t be done by email. One day the door is ajar, and she goes wandering in the house. The bearded shaggy haired hero comes across her all grumbly in the library.

Of course the door is now open to begin operation “soothing the beast”. They chat, they laugh, they walk together, they cook together, they plan a fund raiser at his estate etc….She is the calm to his storm, the dawn to his dusk, the ying to his yang….I think you get the picture.

The hero feels unlovable due to his scars and possible involvement in the car accident. So, he pushes the heroine away. She tries to push him away because of her loyalty to her father and dead aunt.
Things come to a head after she comes back from visiting her dad.(he allowed her to go but thought she wouldn’t come back, she did). She decides he needs a hair cut and the beard has to go. He allows her to do so. To his amazement, the world renowned plastic surgeon they brought in after his accident did a marvelous job with the scarring that sent his “friends” and agent running away. The h and H make their attraction for each other in a fade to black union.

The h wakes up to an empty bed and a yellow rose. He had been giving her a yellow rose for a few weeks which means friendship. I think she was expecting a different color after sleeping with him, so she put a whole lot of meaning to that “let’s just be friends” rose color.

Then the black moment happens when the tabloid she was working for(that she pulled out of) published a bunch of lies quoting her. The hero told her to go. The sold out fundraiser at his estate can’t be cancelled. She ends coming to the fundraiser that she planned with her wheelchair bound dad and his caretaker friend Newton the newt. Newton causes a big stink that the author really didn’t need in the story and the truth of the accident comes out as the police report finally came out unbeknownst to the hero or heroine. Guess what? Hero not at fault, and is in fact being hailed as a hero(nice). The h and H say ILY at the same time to the applause of the fundraising participants in the very lets tie everything up with a nice red bow. There is an epilogue 6 months into the future. They are going on their honeymoon and from the h’s announcement to the hero in the limo, they had more fade to black sexy moments before the wedding.

So, overall the story was a sweet non taxing read. The author actually did a fine job writing it, because I felt compelled to keep going. I will read something else from the author, but one read of this story is all I need. It is advertised as a fairy tale, and she had no issue borrowing from Beauty and the Beast, even referring to it.

I think the author could have done without Newton. He wasn’t fleshed out as a character, and popped up to cause a scandal, and slinked away. It wasn’t needed. I wish the whole fundraising scene had been done differently.

The author doesn’t divulge ages in the story, but I am guessing the heroine was mid to late 20’s while the hero was probably early 30’s. She also doesn’t discuss h’s sexual experiences. The h does refer to dating and dating sites, and went to bed with the H easily enough, my guess is she wasn’t a virgin, even though she was beautiful and pure. This is definitely realistic giving the modern times, but if you are a virgin junkie then you can decide for yourself if that is something you need to enjoy the story.

Gabrielle's grieving father is certain "Super-Star", Deacon Santoro, is responsible for the death of his only sister's death. There was a bad car accident, leaving Gabrielle's aunt. The police will not finalize their report of, if in fact, this man's carelessness was responsible for her death.

Although Gabrielle is anxious to learn the truth, she has resolved to wait on the police. However, although against his nature, her wheel chair bound father has been arrested for harassing and stalking this high profile man. She is certain her father's health will not endure being in jail.

Since the accident, Deacon has become a recluse in his mansion and refuses to talk with anyone. Rumor has it, he has become a beast!! However, the police has arranged for him to speak with Gabrielle before he has her father thrown in jail. Gabrielle...there is something special about that name.

He finally agrees to drop the charges if she agrees to leave her home, move to the guest house and become his assistant for 90 days. Can she endure this? When she arrives he is very appearance is much different!

This us a delightful, well-written, modern retell of the classic Fairy Tale of Beauty and the Beast.
The character and scenes were depicted in a way which "draws the reader in".
The Book cover and Title are both eye-catching and "fitting".

This was such a sweet and charming book. I loved everything about it and devoured it in a couple of hours.

The author did a great job with the retelling of the "Beauty and the Beast" story. There was even a Mrs. Kupps and a Gaston character. Granted, Gaston wasn't as mean and evil but he was still there.

The book was easy to get into. The characters were likable. There were many recognizable Beauty and The Beast aspects. Deacon is scarred both internally and externally. Gabrielle is selfless and working two jobs to care for her father. A situation occurs that has Deacon forcing Gabrielle into his home and employment. She eventually works her way past his defenses. There's even a point where she returns to her father and "The Beast" falls into a depression.... (you'll have to read the book for more).

I was completely charmed by this book and that surprised me a little. I had read some bad reviews and wasn't expecting to like the book so much. The reviews were wrong. This book was delightful and well-written.

I'm looking forward to reading more in the "Once Upon a Fairytale" series of books.

I finished this book with a smile on my face and warm heart. My criteria for a 5-star rating.

A really good story about a super star that was involved in a fatal accident. He can’t remember what happened until the aunt who died in the accident, her niece comes to work with him. She’s there to find the answers but ends up falling in love with the reclusive actor. His memory slowly returns, but now, will it tear them apart or make them closer? So good. I’m a huge Jennifer Faye fan.

I always expect a great story when I read a book by Jennifer Faye and this time I have to say that she surpassed anything she has written before. It has taken me a day to try to find the words to tell you how…beautiful this book is. It may not be the “correct” word to convey the depth of the wonderful feeling this book gives but the story truly is a fairytale for real life. Beauty and Her Boss will grab you from the very start – Gabrielle Dupre first came across, to me, as a bit of a wishy-washy character. It only takes a page or two for her to come into her own! She is strong and kind, caring and just a tiny bit broken, hurting from events that have happened. (You’ll have to read the book for “the events” so I won’t give any spoilers.) And then we meet Deacon Santoro…wow. The character will grab your heart and not let go, even when you read “The End”. Deacon has lost his memory, due to a horrific accident, and he needs to heal both physically and mentally. Gaby, as Deacon calls her, helps him with that, albeit in the most enjoyable reading way. I love these two. The story has much kindness, plenty of angst – between these two and with the world around them – to go along with a growing love and belief in oneself that can only come with that love. Once Upon a Fairytale is the name for the duet however there are no cliffhangers; this book stands alone. Can’t wait, though, to read another fairytale-like adventure by Ms. Faye!

Love when you least expect it! With a take on a beauty and the beast story, Jennifer Faye brings us the story of a man who suffered injuries in an accident that took away his striking Hollywood face and left him a bitter, tortured man. Will secrets hinder them acting on the attraction they feel towards each other? And when some truth comes to light that changes the outlook they've all been assuming for months now, will it bring them closer together? I enjoyed the characters, but would have liked a little more development around the subject that brought them together in the first place. The story was touching and I enjoyed it.

Former Hollywood heartthrob Deacon Santoro has hidden away in his Malibu mansion since a horrific car crash changed his life in the blink of an eye. He has issues to try to overcome, and truth to try to capture and live with. When circumstances bring Gabrielle Dupre into his life as his new temporary assistant, she shakes up his closed off world and makes him come out amongst the living again! Will being in such close quarters show her the type of man he really is, or will she leave thinking he's the same closed-off gruff man that she walked in the door seeing?

Author Jennifer Faye’s retelling of Beauty and the Beast was done quite well. The premise behind Gaby needing to work for Deacon made sense. I appreciated the way the author took elements of the story and made it her own, not feeling like she needed to make every major plot element conform to the events of the fairy tale.

The characters, Gaby and Deacon, were written well and the attraction between them was related in such a way that it was clear that it was not just a physical thing. Gaby was feisty and loyal to her father and was able to stand up to Deacon’s gruffness. She was not really bold but was more determined to do what she felt was right and worked through her nervousness to do what was needed.

Deacon was broken from the accident, the scars that caused his “friends” to desert him, the loss of memory of that fateful night, and the nightmares that plagued him. His fears and hurts caused him to become a recluse who really was a beast. His transformation as he learned to trust was realistic and interesting to read about.

Near the beginning of the story, Deacon has some thoughts about Gaby that made it seem like the story would not be clean, but the one night they spent together was completely closed door.

Do you believe in fairytales? Ms. Faye has written a very enjoyable type Beauty and the Beast book.

Deacon Santoro (Beast) is a well known and handsome movie star. Gabrielle Dupre (Beauty) is willing to do anything to keep her father out of jail. Mr. Depre is sure that Decon is the cause of his sister's death and wants revenge. Gabrielle has made a deal with Deacon to come and work for him for three months as his personal assistant if he will not press charges against her dad. A strange arrangement but the only one that Deacon is willing to accept.

Gaby is a very beautiful and efficient assistant but she cannot take being locked away in an office with no contact with the outside world. Mr. Santoro has kept himself secluded in his room since the accident as he is afraid to see how he looks after all the injuries he suffered in the horrific accident.

Gaby seems to be stubborn and persistent and is going to break down the walls between them. Both are going to find some surprises and possibly a romance in the most unexpected way.

Once again a wonderful and enjoyable read.

“Beauty and Her Boss” by Jennifer Faye is book one of her Once Upon a Fairytale duet and is a modern version of the favorite fairytale Beauty and the Beast.

Deacon Santoro, handsome Hollywood actor, was in a terrible car accident and suffered injuries that left visual and emotional scars. The accident also took the life of Gabrielle Dupre’s aunt. Feeling guilty and remorseful, Deacon hides in his Malibu mansion, but when numerous assistants quit, he decides to hire Gabrielle.
Gaby’s father firmly believes Deacon is at fault and when her father gets in trouble with the law, working for Deacon is the only way Gaby can help her father stay out of jail. She is used to taking care of her father and doing this seems the natural thing to do.

Like the Beast, Deacon is in hiding and doesn’t want anyone getting too close. And like Beauty, Gaby only sees the good.
Their relationship is filled with kindness and a sweetness that will warm your heart.

Ms. Faye has taken elements from a favorite fairytale and created a romantic story.

The Modern take on Beauty and the Beast-//
Beauty and her Boss is emotional, sweet,
funny.

When Gabrielle is faced on dealing with a situation her father brought on she isn’t quite sure how it will go.
She knows Deacon Santoro hasn’t come out of his house since the accident. What she doesn’t know is that he keeps a secret hidden.

Deacon is painted as some monster. He stays confined to his home where no one can see him. It’s better this way. Until Gabrielle comes into his home to work for him. It’s an agreement for what her father has done.

As Gabrielle works for Deacon she sees him in a different light. He’s not a horrible person. She comes understand him.
She feels guilty for what she’s been doing, and changes her mind. The damage is done.

What will become of them?
Buy and find out..
Must read...

Beauty and Her Boss is a heartwarming story about Deacon and Gabrielle. The characters are intense and yet sweet, the story is an emotional rollercoaster of the unknown. Deacon is a former movie star that is now a recluse do to the scarring left behind after a fiery car accident. He has very limited memories of the accident but the one thing he remembers is that he promised to look out for Gabrielle. Gabrielle takes a job as Deacon's personal assistant in order to save her father from jail and to find out the truth behind the accident that took her aunt's life. Their interactions bring forth emotions and feelings that lead to a wonderful love story.

I received an ARC of this story from the publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.

This is a modern day retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It's very well done and will leave your heart full and smiling.

Previously Deacon Santoro was the King of Hollywood. Since he was involved in an accident that took a woman's life he's become reclusive and prefers not to leave his mansion or interact with people. Gabrielle Dupre is the daughter of that woman and is currently working as Deacon's PA. While she took the job with ulterior motives, after pushing her way into Deacon's everyday life, Gabrielle finds that she likes the man very much and doubts very much if he's actually responsible for the accident that took her mother. How can she ever prove that to her father or Deacon himself.

I definitely recommend this one.

A Beautiful, Wonderful take on Beauty and the Beast! Deacon Santoro is a former Hollywood heartthrob who, after an accident, has shut himself off from the world. Gabrielle Dupre' is Dragon's beautiful new PA that is as stubborn as she is beautiful. Now, the reason Gaby has her job is that her father stirred up trouble for Deacon with the paparazzi, and to keep him from pressing charges, Gaby agreed to working for Deacon for 3 months. Deacon and Gaby they start on a journey that they don't know they are on. Together they learn to give and take, to trust and the most important, love! I know you will enjoy watching them grow together, there are times you want to shake each of them, but that's the best part, you get to see the ending!

I received an Autographed ARC of this book from the Author

Beauty and Her Boss was a really fun contemporary retelling of Beauty and the Beast as well as being the first book in the Once Upon a Fairytale Series. I really enjoyed this book and getting to know Gabrielle and Deacon throughout the story as well as watching how their relationship developed as Gabrielle broke through Deacon's emotional wall. The scenes with them talking about their shared love of reading as well as the ones in the garden were really sweet. I loved this book and am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Beauty and Her Boss by Jennifer Faye is book one in Once Upon a Fairytale series. Gabrielle is devastated by family tragedy. Then it seems like no matter where she turns the devastation continues. She can't seem to come up above the water. So when she has no choice but to turn to the person that may have very well put the devastation route in her path its extremely hard.

Deacon can not remember the night of an accident that changed his life but having his employees and self harassed by a man he doesn't know must stop. So when he files charges its devastating to learn his connections to said man.

This story is sweet and loving. I enjoyed the read.

My favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast and Jennifer Faye has done a great job of embellishing that story.
Beauty is Gabrielle, a strong women who is grieving for her aunt while trying to corral her unruly father.
The Beast is Deacon, an actor recovering from a car accident that damaged his face and his memory.
Gabrielle and Deacon have barriers to break through to find true love, but in the end, their happily ever after is waiting for them.
I read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

The story of Gabrielle and Deacon grabbed my attention from the very beginning, and kept me glued to my seat until the end. I love Jennifer Faye's books, and her writing is phenomenal. Gabrielle and Deacon are dealing with circumstances they can't control, yet they find a way to overcome adversity and become stronger people. This is a fantastic start to a new series, and I can't wait for the next book.

This is the first book in the Once Upon a Fairy Tale duet. I enjoyed the modern version of this fairy tale. I really liked the two main characters. Gabrielle Dupre is a strong-willed, compassionate person and Deacon Santoro is a man scarred by an accident he believes might be his fault. I enjoyed how Gabrielle was able to bring sunshine back into his life, his house, and eventually his heart. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Another great story from Jennifer Faye. Her books are always a joy to read - and this one was anexceptionally fun and easy read. Very Beauty and the Beast inspired - but with lots of fun dialogue between the hero and heroine. I especially liked the forthright character of Gaby. Once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down. I read it in one evening - staying up late/early to make sure I could finish it ASAP.

I really enjoyed this fairytale type romance. I received this for free and I voluntarily chose to review this. I have given this a 4.7 * rating. The Hero in this story was badly wounded in a accident that has taken part of his memory. This story is centered around his accident and quickly pulls you in to see what has happened. I really enjoyed the positive attitude of the heroine and how it turns out. Sorry this took so long to read but there was a family situation to took a lot of our time.

A charming take on the Beauty and the Beast trope. He is a scarred actor who may have caused her aunt's death in a car crash. While the official report is pending, her forgiving heart leads to healing. A nice read.

Included in a mixed bundle - from the M&B True Love series which is very YA in style. Characters are poorly drawn, one dimensional, plot is transparently thin. Beauty and the Beast analogies are as thick as custard.
Not for me.
