Based on an episode of Llama Llama's animated Netflix series, this book is all about one of the most fun activities for little llamas (and kids): camping!
Look out, world--Llama Llama is a TV star! The beloved character, made famous by Anna Dewdney's best-selling picture books, is the star of his own original series, now airing on Netflix. In this episode-based 8x8, Llama Llama goes camping for the very first time and learns a valuable what seems scary can actually be super-duper FUN! Your little llamas will love relating to their favorite picture book character as he faces new and challenging situations.
Anna Dewdney was an award-winning children's-book author, illustrator, teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of literacy and reading aloud to children. She was the author of the bestselling Llama Llama Red Pajama series of picturebooks, among many others. She lived with her partner Reed Duncan in Vermont where she worked, gardened, and spent time with her daughters and dogs.
For the first time ever, Llama Llama is going camping with his friends Nelly Gnu, Luna, Gilroy, and Euclid. (Fabulous names for these friends, don't you think, Goodreaders?)
Through their dialog, the friends introduce readers to what camping IS.
I love how the dialog expresses the innocence of these children as they first experience camping.
"Wow," says Llama, looking around. "These trees are so tall!"
Will the kids be able to follow the rule for this trip and not use their "gadgets" while camping out?
This FIVE STAR story explores what's perennial about having fun with friends... with the very contemporary question about how to survive an overnight trip... without clinging to one's phone and other mechanical toys.
My son loves the Llama Llama books and they are so easy that it helps him learn to read and enjoy reading. I'm so proud of my next generation of book worm. He comes from a long line of them and we continue to be enthusiasts for books to keep living.
For a slightly older kid than llama llama red pajama. As an avid camper, I was excited to read it to my son. The story is a little dull, but the underlying message is to go and enjoy the great outdoors without all the distractions of modern life.
