I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I am still not a fan of Tinkerhell, but I have to say that I am liking her quite a bit in this Disney Fairies series. That is also why, after a bit of hesitation, I decided to just go for it and request this book. And after reading it? I am very happy that I did. Tinkerbell is totally different in this Disney Fairies series. She is sweet, kind, fun, and sure, at times she is a bit obnoxious, but not overly so.
In this one our fairies are at a camp on the mainland, and it is there that Tink goes out and meets a tiny little girl. Though the meeting isn't really in a good way. Tink gets trapped (thanks to Vidia) and taken inside the house. From that point the story splits in two parts. The biggest part goes to Tink (as it should it is her book/story after all) and the other part goes to Vidia and the other fairies who go for a rescue mission to save Tink from the humans.
Tink was planning to leave, but due to the weather (fairies can't get wet wings) and also some other reasons, Tink decides to stay and help out the little girl and also fix up their house (she is still Tinkerbell). I really loved that Tink stayed, that she started caring for the little kid and even tried to make her life more fun.
I hated the dad in the story. He was just so terrible towards his kid. I get that he may want her to get more scientific, but really to dismiss her fantasies and daytime fun like this? To act like a total wart towards her when she tries to show him the truth? He even rips of her drawings, and then when he finally does see the truth he does THAT. Man, really, you need a kick between the balls. Sorry, I am normally not so violent, but I was just pissed off at his attitude. This is not how you make your kid happy.
The ending was pretty nice, and yes, I did tear up a bit.
I have to say I am a bit sad, 91 pages of this volume are about the fairies, but the rest is just sneak-previews to other manga (that I either already tried out or am not interested in). I thought that, after the main story, we would get another short story, so I kept scrolling through my e-copy only to find that there was nothing anymore. :(
The art was not really a favourite of mine. At times it looked quite nice, but I still prefer Jun Asuka or Haruhi Kato's art.
This manga was really true to the movie. I ended up enjoying it a lot. I like all things Disney and of course the fairies. The artwork was cute, the little girl was cute. I don't like the first instinct of the humans was to put the fairy in a cage or jar (this is probably quite realistic if we're being honest), but at least the little girl let her go with no fuss and the father learned a lesson.
If you enjoy Tinkerbell or the Fairies franchise, you'll like this book. I wouldn't say love exactly, at least not for me. It mirrors that of one of the movies, scene for scene. So this was just a retelling of it, which I don't mind.
The art style is charming but the manga moves very quickly from scene to scene where it doesn't pause or give the reader an idea of the world. So it may confuse some readers who have never been introduced to these characters before.
I wish it didn't need 51 extra pages of previews for other manga books. You heard me. 51 extra pages that I counted, had to be added to this manga because it was that short. It could have been fleshed out better to add more details and more scenes. So that knocks down my rating by a lot since I didn't pick this manga up just to read about previews.
I love the world of Tink so this was just an okay read for me that felt like it was a rushed project. Maybe it was released alongside the movie? If that's the case, the artist might have been under a lot of crunch, which can overall affect the final result. However kids who love tink, I'm sure you'll enjoy this short story.
I received this book as an advanced reader's copy because patrons and staff are huge Disney fans and this book was particularly fascinating because it had a bunch of stories in one. Tinkerbell is widely popular with patrons and books on Tinkerbell are requested all the time. This book was a unique graphic novel with a compelling story, detailed illustrations and descriptive dialogue that is easy to dedicate reading on and will perk up the interest of any child that reads it. Very good read with fantastic pictures. 5 stars!
First let me Thank Netgalley for this digital copy. I just love everything Tinkerbell and Fairies! The story is one I always loved and the illustrations are wonderful. I love the way the way the fairies take on more of an anima look. Manga is always fun to read! I definitely recommend this book to everyone who is like me and loves Everything Disney!
Overall, a simple and cute story that follows the movie fairly faithfully. The manga moves at a fast pace, thus it was quite a quick read and relatively short. Not something new or really a great rendition of the story, but still it was cute.
I have now read all 5 mangas of this series and like the other 4, so is this manga so lovely too. The drawings are beautiful and the stories are fabulous.
I started reading this series on a whim because of my kindle unlimited subscription. They are really quick and easy reads. Definitely a book type with content I’m not used to. Solid read.
This is exactly the original Disney novel/movie just with Japanese art. Story felt a bit more short and distant, maybe it's the translation but it didn't flow super well.
Very confused as to why this edition is only 3/4 this story and the last 1/4 is just a random collection of other manga not fairies related at all.
Anyway, perfect if you like the Fairies and want to reread the original story, but faster.
What an adorable book for the little girl (or little girl at heart) in your life! I have always adored fairies especially the endearing Tinkerbelle, and now I enjoying sharing with my granddaughters as well! Thank you!
