A Blackboard Bestselling Author In a stunning novel of extraordinary power that involves a mystical journey to Ghana, Colin Channer combines profound questions of faith, the aching search for home, the long reach of history, and the double-edged sword of passion to dazzling effect.
Although they share many characteristics, Colin Channer's second novel is very different from Waiting in Vain. Here's the thing. Unlike Fire before him and Jamaican author, Colin Channer, Carey McCullough is not a Yardie... He's multicultural rather than Jamaican, but still sexy to the bloodclat core. That's not what his second novel is about, however.
Despite steamy scenes and lush Jamaican settings, this is not beach reading. Satisfy My Soul is written in a vibrant, but more contemplative voice. It is a tragedy, a psychological study, and an intellectual analysis of cultural and spiritual conflict. Unlike the heroic Fire, Satisfy My Soul's playwright/narrator Carey is a dark and complex character with a troubled psychology, compelled to struggle in several destructive relationships.
Written in Carey's voice, Satisfy My Soul is a poetic rumination on the African-Caribbean new world's relationship with cultural identity, Christianity, Rastafarianiasm and Africa while confronting the universal challenges of mortality, fidelity, sexuality, jealousy and friendship.
This may not be easy reading for the beach, but it's more than worth your time and attention.
It wasn't as good as his other novel Waiting In Vain. I like how the main character struggled to love a woman who was deep in her wild feminine archetype. The ending is so... As usual Colin Channer takes you on a dark psychological ride that makes you question all the connections you've ever had. I wish we could've read from the woman's perspective also. She is an interesting character and I'm sure her inner dialogue would've gave the book balance.
I expected something totally different. It was ok, but a lot of the text to me could've been left out. I really wanted him and Frances to meet again, maybe next lifetime.
I thought the book was very much like the lives of many poeple that i do know. It's not just a 1 genre book at all,it actually helps you to connect to other people's lives and makes you think twice before pre-judging anybody else in the future because, you never know what they have gone through, where they came from,or the things that they have seen. When I was reading this book I was surprised at times,I was laughing,I had very many questions that I still don't know the answer to, and I was in deep in thought in every page that I read, and the details are very well rounded. It's also an eye opener to the world and other people's poimt of view and what they may think from where they stand. And as far as the moral of teh story goes, it's ok to trust some people, but everybody aren't saints so never assume anything or trust too quickly.
It was very captivating, i just could not put it down. After reading Waiting in Vain i new i would be satisfied. I must agree tho that i really love the sex scenes with Frances leading. Loved her character and how the author portray her as an hard ass "tomboy" with a real appetite for good sex, not only to receive it but to also give it. Collin Channer u've really satisfied my soul with this one. Thumbs up to you, i must recommend this book to all my reading friends and get a hardcopy for my library.
I found the ending of this book to be disappointing. Collin is a wonderful writer. I was intrigued that the story took place in South Carolina. I expected the main characters to be redeemed in the end.
