I’ve loved drawing all my life but I started doing it as a profession kind of by accident. I grew up in Southern California and went to San Diego State University. During the summers I worked as a tour guide at Universal Studios, what a great job! And I met some really good friends while I was there. I was an actor in Los Angeles for a while doing plays, some TV and a few commercials. I was even on some soap operas. It was during this time that I met my awesome wife Vicki in Newport Beach. After we got married we moved to the northwest. We love it here. We have a beautiful daughter, Christie and a black and white Rescue cat- Gracie.

When we moved, I couldn’t find a full time job so I started drawing for ads and TV and clients around town. Then God got me hooked up with Harvest House publishers and my writing and illustrating career took off. Since then I’ve gotten to work with some really great people like Focus on the Family, World Vision, The Los Angeles Times, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Charlotte Hornets.

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Jeremiah 29:11- “I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for good and not for evil to give you a future and a hope.”

I know that’s been true for me and I know it’ll be true for you too. I hope you enjoy this site and learn some stuff from it. We’ll keep adding new features all the time so make sure you keep coming back and visiting.

Things I love: summer, ice cream, hamburgers, drawing, Duck football and basketball, working on books, speaking to groups of kids

Things I don’t love: broccoli, getting up early, committees

This cute little book will either delight you or drive you crazy as a parent or perhaps even a little of both. In our family it has been used as a secret weapon. We have a couple of reluctant readers that usually reject all efforts to get them to read. But something about a good joke book draws them in.

Mr. Silverthorne has put together a good mix of jokes, knock-knock jokes, riddles, and silly stories. They are guaranteed to make you laugh, groan, roll your eyes, and shake your head. But it also makes me so happy to have my little one following me around reading out of it to me.

Whether you have a reluctant reader or an avid bibliophile this book is a good choice for your children. The jokes are clean and clever so you don't have to worry about what they are going to come across and repeat.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

I got this book for my eight year old son. He loves to tell jokes at the dinner table. He carried this book around for weeks, telling jokes to anyone who would listen. He liked that the jokes were different from other books he’d read. He also enjoyed the illustrations. He gives this book five stars!

My Review:

Who doesn't like a good joke? Most children love it when they can tell an adult a joke and the adult gets it. I was remembering my four year old niece the other day tell me a knock knock joke and of course I didn't get it. She laughed and laughed. A great memory.

My son is looking forward to getting his hands on this joke book. He is a jokester and prank puller that enjoys it so much.

Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids, for ages 6-12 but any age would love it and enjoy it. I was even reading some of the jokes to my own children and they loved it. Most of the jokes are pretty corny but they are good and clean.

It contains a mixture of all types of jokes, riddles, and puns and is the perfect gift for a child that seems quiet and withdrawn. My son is very shy and jokes help him to feel better in awkward situations. With over a hundred pages of jokes, riddles, and puns your child will have a lot of down home fun.

Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids
By Sandy Silverthorne

Kids of all age love telling jokes but finding good clean joke books can be a challenge. Well have no fear Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids is here to feed your joke telling hobby. This book is a mix of jokes, knock-knocks, and silly stories that may or may not make you laugh but you'll be sure to roll your eyes a time or two. With a scattering of illustrations to add to the book, kids will be sure get in a few giggles while sharing the hilarity with those around them.

Some jokes are standards one would expect in any joke book such as the "How do you keep a blank from charging?" "Take away his credit card." While others are a bit more unique such as Q: What did the elevator say to the other elevator? A: I think I'm coming down with something. And then there are reverse jokes which give the answer before the question which could result in some outrageous hilarity as others try to come up with the correct question.

There are 138 pages with 130 pages for the jokes and the book is small enough to take with you almost everywhere - though I wouldn't recommend taking it into the tub as it has an aversion to water, though there is a joke about Noah's ark and one about the ocean.

Recommended for kids 6 - 12 years of age though, in my opinion, other age will enjoy the jokes as well. This book would be a great way to get a party off to a great start with an air of jocularity that can break up any awkwardness.

I was provided a complimentary copy by Revell with no expectations but my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids falls pretty far outside the normal range of books that I usually read and review. But when I saw the description, I thought it probably had my 7-year-old grandson's name written all over it! As I read the 130-ish pages of jokes, riddles, etc., I could imagine the hours he might spend sharing these jewels with anyone who would listen.

The content is exactly what was promised -- knock-knock jokes and other groaners that an elementary-aged kid will find absolutely hilarious. (And teens and adults might find a reason to smile as well, as they moan and roll their eyes.)

The back cover says the book is "perfect for kids ages 6-12." I think that some of the jokes might contain ideas that are a little dated or that kids that age might not quite "get." But it has been my experience that those limitations often don't keep a joke from being "side-splittingly" funny to an aspiring young "comedian" as he shares with his audience.

Pick up a copy of this little book to provide some good, clean humor for your young child or grandchild. It should provide some great times of shared fun and will do so without any worry of "potty" humor or other unacceptable material.

Thanks to Revell Publishers for providing a copy of Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids. I was happy to share my own thoughts in this review.

Do your kids enjoy a good joke or funny story? Sandy Silverthorne has created a whole book full of funny riddles, jokes, one-liners, and other humorous stories and lists.

Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids is aimed at kids ages 6-12--but everyone in my family enjoyed them. There must be a joke of some sort to make most everyone laugh in this book. It has a lot and one or the other of them should make someone laugh. I think it could be a lot of fun to use as an icebreaker for Sunday School, School groups or with youth group meetings besides adding to family fun times. I would encourage families to get a copy for the fun of it. It sells for less than $5 on Kindle or in hard copy so it could create quite a bit of entertainment for the money invested.

Here is an example of a joke we enjoyed from Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids. You may enjoy it or one of many other jokes in the book:

Teacher: If you have five dollars and ask your father for five more, how much money would you have?

Sam: Five dollars.

Teacher: Boy, you don't know your math.

Sam: You don't know my father.

Crack Yourself up Jokes for Kids, written by Sandy Silverthorne, is a fun joke book geared toward kids. This little book is loaded with fun jokes, riddles and one-liners, providing hours of creative (and clean) entertainment.

Here are several examples:

Q: Where do TVs go on vacation? A: To remote places.

Q: What washes up on tiny beaches? A: Microwaves.

Q: What is the Tower of Pisa’s first name? A: Eileen.

There are only three kinds of people. Those who can count, and those who can’t.

This book is enjoyable to take along on road trips, wait-rooms, or just hanging-out time. The jokes are witty and corny without worry of innuendo or other inappropriateness. There are cartoon drawings every few pages that add to the fun. Although the jokes are appropriate for almost any age, they are geared toward elementary and middle school aged children.

I have a 12 year old who loves to goof around and jokes are right up his alley. Finding good clean joke books are a blessing. This doesn’t come from a Christian perspective but, all the jokes, riddles, knock- knock jokes are clean.

Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids is intended for kids 6-8. I think older kids would enjoy this if they like joke books. This paperback book has 144 pages.

Some things my son found amusing:

Bob: I have a photographic memory.
Rob: Too bad it never developed.

Movie Theater Ticket Seller: Sir, that’s the sixth ticket you’ve bought.
Moviegoer: I Know, that guy by the rope keeps tearing them up.

Q. Who’s in charge of the pencil box?
A. The Ruler

Teacher: What happens when you touch a window?
Student: You feel the pane.

Those are just a few that my family has been enduring over the last few weeks.

A fun and wholesome book that many kids will enjoy sharing with family and friends. A great book and I would recommend it.

Crack Yourself Up is a joke book for kids by author Sandy Silverthorne. The first thing I noticed about this book was the cheery, colorful cover. The second thing is that the jokes, stories, riddles, knock-knock jokes, etc. are a mixture of new-to-me and those that have been around for a while. My son & I were laughing from the very beginning.

The text is clear and legible, perfect for 6-year-olds and up. Also, younger children would enjoy someone reading the book to them and asking the jokes. The author uses lots of imagery making the book come alive and vivid in the reader’s mind. The front cover alludes to what type of book it is with the use of a colorful cartoon.

I recommend this book to fans of jokes, riddles, knock-knock jokes, etc.

When my son was a kid, he loved jokes, and he loved to share them. While not very successful at writing his own, he would make us chuckle, groan, and roll our eyes with jokes he read in books and magazines. He would have loved Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids. This book is filled with hundreds of jokes, riddles, knock-knocks, one-liners, and some pretty funny lists. And though I had years of my son sharing, most of them were new to me. Perfect for a birthday gift, stocking stuffer, or just because, this book will provide hours of fun and hilarity, if not for the whole family, then for the young comedian in your life 😉 . No worries about who will hear them either — these are definitely clean jokes. Be prepared to be entertained, because even if you find some of the jokes groaners, you are going to love the kick your kid(s) get out of them.

Recommended.

Audience: kids ages 6-12.

Ben likes to tell me jokes from the backseat of the minivan and for a long time I wondered when the jokes would be good. They’re improving, thankfully. Some thanks certainly goes to joke books, like our newest one, “Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids” by Sandy Silverthorne. Of course, the fact he’s growing up is also helpful.

Here are a few of Ben’s favorite jokes from the book:

What do you call a pile of kittens?
A meowtain.

Did you hear about the two guys who stole a calendar?
They each got six months.

Sam, what two days of the week start with T?
Today and tomorrow.

As a mom, I like that the book is a mass market paperback that’s easy to carry around. Plus I love hearing Ben laugh now that he’s old enough to understand the dual meaning of words, silly play on ordinary words, and what makes a joke funny. He’s still working on the timing when delivering jokes, but at least he has a new resource of full of funny fodder – even if I did have to explain why a blonde joke was funny.

Knock-Knock:  It’s “Crack Yourself Up: Jokes for Kids”!  Sandy Silverthorne’s new release to the joke book genre is sure to please both young children and tweens.  It is a small-sized book (easy for travel) but is packed with kid-friendly knock-knock jokes, stories, goofy lists, puns, and riddles that will entertain kids for hours.

This book also features some cute illustrations, often in the form of cartoons where the characters are speaking.  These pictures add yet another appealing feature for kids to enjoy.

So, if you have ever wondered what is white and sits on top of your TV, or where pigs go on Saturdays, or what Alexander the Great and Winnie the Pooh have in common, this book will answer all of those questions, and many, many more.

Do your kids love to tell jokes? Do they try to make up jokes, and you find yourself laughing at jokes not because they're funny, but because your kids think they're hilarious? Then you need this book! As soon as I got this book in the mail, my 6-year-old daughter has been carrying it around reading all the jokes and entertaining us with her new jokes. It's a big hit in our house. I love it because not only is she getting in more reading, but she also is telling funny jokes and her little sister is learning them with her! This book is perfect for older children who can read it for themselves. I definitely recommend it for your budding comedians!

Q: What steals your stuff while you're in the bathtub?  A: A robber ducky!

What an adorable, little book! This book is filled with hilarious knock-knock jokes, funny stories, and tons of play-on words! Yes, of course there are a lots of corny jokes, but I think any kid would love them.

I even found myself giggling throughout reading it. It was especially fun to hear the groans and laughing as I told some of the jokes to my friends.

There were a few black-and-white drawings sprinkled through the pages. They weren't super detailed, but they were very cute!

I would definitely recommend this book for the jokester kid in your life. Warning: there are many, many jokes in this small book; so be prepared!

Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids by Sandy Silverthorne is a cute collection of jokes for children. The jokes are funny – and since they are for kids, they are nice and clean. I would have loved a book like this when I was about eight years old. (And, because the book is 144 pages and 4.2 x 7.2 inches, it is easy for an eight-year-old to read relatively quickly!)

The jokes are written in various styles. Some of them involve two people talking to each other, whereas others are written in question and answer format. Some of the joke types were ones I was familiar with, like knock knock jokes and a dumb blonde joke. The jokes are witty and make good use of puns, without being mean. A child who reads this book may be inspired to write his or her own jokes!

Crack Yourself Up Jokes for Kids is a cute little joke book. All the jokes are appropriate for kids and they range in subject from school to family and come in various types, such as knock knock jokes, question and answer jokes, and puns.

Some of the jokes were hilarious, and I told them to the kids in my life. And some of them fell flat or the topic was something an older child or adult would understand more than a little kid would. And some of them were better off being read or being told by two people. But most of them were great, and I had a lot of fun going through them and trying some of them out on some of the elementary and middle school kids in my life.

I hope you will enjoy this book as much as we did. I recommend it to families who like to laugh.

Kids love jokes, the cornier, and the sillier the better! They love to tell them and will laugh at the same ones over and over even if no one else does. This book is especially for the miniature budding comedians in your life. It is packed full of jokes, riddles, and stories kids will love. All or clean, nothing off color or suggestive, something I value and appreciate in children’s reading material. The jokes have large spaces between each one so they are easy to read. While you may not find the jokes as humorous as the children, you will find yourself cracking up at the sound of their laughter. I know I do!

A book packed full of dad and uncle jokes. While I was amused, some of these jokes went right over the kids’ heads. The only problem I ran into was some of the terms the kids might not have been familiar with. Then again, some will trick themselves into creative thinking in order to guess the punchline. These jokes are deserving of pun-ishment. And are sure to illicit lots of groans. I’d recommend using this book as an ice breaker or perhaps as a reference, using a joke a day in the child’s lunch for school…maybe with a sketch to help them understand the punchline. It’s at least a unique way to say “I love you” or “I’m thinking of you”. I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishing Group. The honest opinions in this review are my own.

Once in awhile one needs to laugh like a kid. Makes one feel good.
The jokes in this small paperback are geared for the first thru fourth grade crowd.
Some of the jokes are funny others are well, deadpan! 😄
For instance the one on page 82: "My parents always had to pay my brother to be good. But not me. I was good for nothing."
This small book is chock full of funnies. 135 pages of funnies to be exact.
So if you have a child who needs or wants to tell humerus jokes this is the book for them.
I know a few grandpas that would like this book too.

This is a light-hearted romp through a field of clean jokes that are chuckle-worthy. Some are old, some are easy riddles to figure out and others are funnier if you read them aloud to someone else. These jokes are meant to be shared and are basically good fun!

In a world of drama, this book is refreshing. In my home we’ve had a good time laughing and groaning at the clean jokes in Crack Yourself Up. Author Sandy Silverthorne has done a great job, but what would you expect from someone whose bio reads: “Sandy has worked as a cartoonist, author, illustrator, actor, pastor, speaker, and comedian. Apparently it's hard for him to focus.”

Do yourself a favor. Get this book not just for the kids in your home but for the adults too!!

I thought that this book looked like it would be something my kids would enjoy. When I handed it to my daughter, she eagerly cracked it open and immediately started giggling. My other kids thought it was fun, too. There are a variety of kinds of jokes and riddles, so there is plenty of things to appeal to different people. Some were old, tried and true jokes, but others were new. I'm sure the kids will get a lot of use out of the book.
