Adventures of a Mad Scientist, by Mike Bloemer is a great, all-around fun action and adventure book for kids and young readers. Meet the Baxters, three kids who have led anything but a normal life. Since they were toddlers, they have traveled around the world with their parents, humanitarian activists. Their activist duties include going face to face with warlords, traffickers, arms dealers, and a myriad of criminal individuals and organizations. Now, the three young Baxters, along with their uncle Xander, a brilliant scientist who creates a vaccine that can free humankind of diseases, have to face a challenge like none before. Dr. Xander’s vaccine brings hope to people with terminal illnesses, but it also attracts the attention of Aladdin, Salazar, an old protégé now turned foe, who wants to get a hold of this vaccine for his personal benefit. Salazar kidnaps the Baxter kids to force Xander to give him the vaccination. Xander yields to Salazar’s request, but gives him a fake vaccination, unleashing Salazar’s wrath. Now the Baxter kids, along with their uncle have to battle a horde of robots and try to save the planet from destruction. The book has so many elements that make it interesting. It’s lighthearted, but it has large doses of action and adventure. The interaction between characters, especially the siblings, flows in such a natural manner. Lots of imagination, lots of action, lots of fantasy to garner the interest of young readers and interest them in the genre. Mainly directed to kids and teenagers, this book can easily be enjoyed by more experienced readers. Bloemer possesses the writing tools to captivate his readers, and it would be interesting to read something from him that’s aimed to a more mature audience.

When it comes to kids books, you always expect them to have a little extra pizzazz to spark attention in less patient readers. This book seriously delivers with its diverse characters, epic storylines, and masterful illustration of the adventures. Seriously action-packed, even as an adult I found this a real page-turner. Not only did this book never have a dull moment, but it also did a fantastic job of adding in elements of humor, irony, and drama. I don’t want to spoil, but there are some certainly unexpected twists that really teach you to not judge a book by it’s cover. I found the plot surprisingly complex and complicated considering the target audience. Still, the style of writing and delivery of complicated circumstances really offer the storyline in a way where younger readers can still understand and enjoy what’s going on.
When the main character’s uncle unveils his latest creation, a miracle vaccine, to the world, it seems like a godsend. While millions praise this new finding, it seems it may have attracted the attention of less savory people who will stop at nothing to get their hands on it. How far will they take it? Why do they want it? Will our heroes be able to stop him? Read on to find out!

This is a great book for kids! Though the author gives a recommendation that it be reserved for kids over the age of 10, I think that in some cases, younger kids would appreciate this. I am a nanny for an *almost* 7 year old who would love the action packed nature of this book. There is some action and there are some intense chapters, but for the most part it is all so ridiculous (mad scientists, elixirs of life, silly dialog, etc.) that it is not really scary, even for a kid, in my opinion. Simple storyline, easy to follow, and engaging for kids. Perfect summer reading book!

Adventures Of A Mad Scientist by Mike Bloemer is a young adult science fiction novel all about three sisters and their uncle teaming up to save the world from a criminal mastermind and his army of robots. The sisters have traveled the world with their parents doing good everywhere they went. But, as is the case in reality, when you do good for someone that usually means you are making someone else mad. Enter Aladdin Salazar, our antagonist. He is set on using the sisters' uncle's research to create a super virus that will wipe out a major portion of the population. To make matters worse, he has an army of robots ready to aid in his fight. Now it is up to the sisters and their uncle to not only stop Aladdin, but find a way to protect the cure before it gets unleashed in the worst way possible.
As a teacher, I read young adult novels from time to time to stay current with what is out there. This one caught my attention and I am for sure going to recommend it to young readers. It is funny, action packed, moves well, and has good strong themes throughout. There is violence involved, but most of the big books that kids are into are centered around violence anyway. At least here it is against robots rather than people. Nicely written and well edited, this will be a great recommendation for young readers.

What first caught my attention when
looking for a +kid’s book was the cover. The cover for Adventures of a Mad
Scientist is perfect! It colorful and displays exactly what you can expect to
find within the pages of this fun and adventurous book.
I came upon this book since I was looking for a book to read
with my nieces and nephew. I thought it looked pretty good but I wanted to read it on my own in case it became too violent or contained more mature subjects. I was happily surprised that this book was a pretty good match for what I was looking for. There was some violence, but when compared to what you can find on TV or in movies it was nothing shocking.
I would say it was similar to the marvel movies that are rated PG-13.
The book was a very fun action-packed adventure
book. Also, I loved the diversity of the characters. The character development was well written, creating a cast of easily likable characters.
I found the book an incredibly enjoyable read it was well
written with a good amount of humor sprinkled throughout. I am very much
looking forward to sharing this book with my nieces and nephew.

“Adventures Of A Max Scientist” is a fictional adventure for pre-teens and teenagers. The story centers around three siblings, Jesse, Ororo, and Journey who go through various challenges and obstacles in order to help their mad scientist Uncle, ‘Mad Doc’ Xander, to save the world.
The story is fast-paced and highly engaging. It is filled with much action and also wit and humor, making the book really hard to put down.
The story plot involves the three teen heroes helping their uncle outwit the super villain, Aladdin Salazar, who wants to weaponize Xander’s vaccine and transform it into an incurable virus that could decimate the human race. In a way, the story is scarily realistic. Yet it does reflect the dangers of major scientific discoveries in the real world if they were to fall into the wrong hands.
I think as much as we want to shield our kids from be harsh realities of the world, it is also important that we empower them with the right values such that they will rise up to the occasion of fighting for humanity if ever the need arises.
So, yes, this is an amazing book for our future heroes.

This children’s book by Mike Bloemer tells the story of the Baxter siblings who must help their uncle scientist ‘Mad Doc’ Xander who believes he has created a remarkable vaccine that can cure many terminal illnesses, including heart disease and cancer. However, Xander’s vaccine is desired by his nemesis, Aladdin Salazar, who Xander believes wants to use the vaccine as a way to spread a deadly virus throughout the world. To get the vaccine, Salazar kidnaps the Baxter siblings and will only release them if Xander gives him it. Xander gives Salazar a fake version of the vaccine to have his nieces and nephews released, but it turns out that Salazar needs the vaccine for an entirely different purpose.
If you’re on the search for a kids book that is filled with adventure yet will make them think about important values, like kindness, this is one book you’ll want to check out. While it might be a little long for some (242 pages), Bloemer writes with a captivating style that will make putting the book down hard to do.

This book revolves around the Baxter family, who just happens to get involved in a battle against an evil robot army. To be honest, if not for the first few chapters, my 10-year-old son and I would have liked this book. There was too much glee and pride in shooting at/hurting other human beings from these "humanitarians" for me to find any of them likeable. The characters all come off as extremely ridiculous (each in their own way) and extremely unlikeable. All of the action in this book was hyper-violent and absurdly stereotypical. The whole teenage romance of Jesse and Alex was almost unbearable to read. The book wasn't all bad. It was a pretty fast-paced read with a lot of interesting stuff popping up along the Baxter's adventure and I really think it could have been a great book if the characters hadn't all been so outrageously developed. While imaginative, it just missed a huge mark with my son because "the kids didn't seem like real kids and the parents didn't seem like real parents" which made it feel "dumb" to him.

I read this book because I wanted to buy it for my niece’s birthday and I needed to make sure that it was appropriate. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy the book because I was only reading it to make sure it was suitable. I was pleasantly surprised! What I liked most about the book is that even though it has a weird sci-fi element, it is a very family-oriented story and it really highlights the importance of sticking together as a family unit. The story is very well written and it’s full of action, you are constantly entertained throughout the book. The characters are well developed and even though it is a science fiction book, they are relatable. I was a bit taken aback by the use of guns in the story though, and so if you don’t want your kids exposed to weapons then I wouldn’t advise buying this. However, that is the only negative point I have to make about the book; in general, I highly recommend it.

I was quite surprised when I jumped into this book. “Adventures of a Mad Scientist” delights children and adults alike. With its sharp dialogue, descriptive narrative, and mixing of sci-fi, contemporary, and adventure dramas, Mike Bloemer writes a heck of an astounding novel. It’s rife with plenty of twists and turns to keep everyone interested, and it deals with plenty of heavy and contemporary topics. It’s one of those books that is suitable for older children and can lead to some good lessons and conversations between children and parents.
Parents will appreciate the short synopsis and disclaimer at the beginning of the book. This will help them ascertain if this is an appropriate story for their children. This book is more suited for a mature audience due to themes and language so parents should be prepared.
Overall this was the literary adventure I’d love to return to again and again.

Even though this is primarily a children's book, even I enjoyed it. It is not easy to find good, exciting books for kids that are at the same time well written and imaginative. This is one of them, and the author really put everything he's got into it. From the start it is fast paced, lots going on, it has action, adventure, cool characters... The premise is mainly action-oriented, a few kids battle with evildoers in a kind of a sci-fi setting. That is perfect for the kids of the age that is recommended here, 10 and up, I can testify that pretty much all they are thinking of and most of the entertainment they consume is in the similar line. Because of that I think that the author really struck a chord with this book, he has his finger on the pulse of youth today and knows what is selling. It doesn't hurt that this truly is a well written and recommendable piece of writing. thumbs up from me!

I decided to read the children's book just for fun and of course I can not take it very seriously, because it is written for children about 10 years old. The book is easy to read and entertaining 😊 Every adult can remember his childhood and enjoy this book. Especially if you are a fan of fantasy and of robots - then take it without hesitation.
The story of two children: 13-year old Jesse Baxter and his 12-year old sister, who teamed up with their uncle decided to save the world from evil robots. On the way, they face many tests that check the character of the heroes, if they are ready for such a difficult mission.
This story can’t leave your children indifferent, on the contrary, it can become their motivator for some new improvements. I think that the continuation of the story will be also interesting and exciting.

Even though it was for kids 10 and up, I enjoyed reading this with my 6-year-old daughter. She is into all things science, so she was thrilled to read an action book about teenagers who help their uncle who just happens to be a scientist take down another “mad” scientist. The three preteens have had an exciting life with their humanitarian parents who take them all around the globe. Such a life is easily envied by any young teen and my daughter was no exception. She really liked hearing about the rescue Uncle Xander was able to pull off and that Aladdin might not have been truly evil after all, only misunderstood.
Very well written and easy to read, alone or with a parent. I’m sure more adventures with these characters are around the corner for us, as the author has a fantastic imagination. And he was able to bring it to this book in a fun way.

As a teacher and a parent, I am quite amazed by how much we have lowered our standards when it comes to YA literature. To think our parents and my generation were asked to read “Grapes of Wrath,” and “Of Mice and Men” and of course, “The Catcher…”; we have somehow become afraid of asking newer generations to get interested in something better than shallow tales. This is why I liked this book. It teaches youngsters that captivating stories can have cultural and historical references, and still be a lot of fun!
That adventure can be more than an empty story and cartoonish characters. Of course, the plot is filled with fantasy and stimulates their imagination, but it is also filled with clever paragraphs with a more educational approach. I think even adults can genuinely enjoy this book. Two thumbs up!

Kudos to Mr Bloemer on getting the kids excited about reading!
This is the perfect book tweens and young teens who are looking for an action packed adventure that is going to keep them excited about reading! I picked this up thinking it might help my niece get more excited about reading and I am happy to say that it worked not only on her but on my nephew as well! They now keep asking me when I’m going to get them another book by Mike Bloemer so they can see what happens next. Kudos to Mr Bloemer for succeeding where others have failed! I read this before giving it to my niece and nephew to read and was pleasantly surprised that even I liked it! It’s not my typical read but it was a nice break from my normal reading list. I’m looking forward to picking up some books from Mr Bloemer and enjoying them myself before passing them down to the kids!

Mike Bloemer’s “Adventures of a Mad Scientist” can pass for a middle-grade-adult novel crossover. It is not always possible to see small children acting like grownups and changing the world in a better way.
In this exciting book, 13-year old Jesse Baxter, with his sisters, 12-year old Ororo and 11-year old Journey, has a an important mission on their hands—they must help their mad scientist uncle save the world from all manners of evil robots. It is not going to be an easy thing to do. The kids’ uncle, ‘Mad Doc’ Xander announces his so-called ‘immortality vaccine’ to the world, which has the power to cure cancer, heart disease, and all other known diseases. The world receives the information with joy. However, Mad Doc Xander needs his teenage family members to keep the hope alive.

Strong contender to keeping the kids busy
If you do love a wild tale peppered with an overactive imagination, then you're going to love Adventures of a Mad Scientist. Imaginative, delightful, and entertaining, Adventures of of a Mad Scientist should create enough vivid colors and notoriety to keep you occupied, but more, those little humans (referring to 'the kids') who like to scamper about all day.
Bloemer gives the write-up a nice touch, keeping it grounded, while letting the story fly. Interesting background, and nice concept, get to see 'a whole family' being the main characters.
Nice story, good enough to create needed intrigue for both adults and the kids. Should keep the kids indoors for a while, that is until they's have hatched up a plan, where to go create the next chaos.

Wow! Fictional brilliance, Mike Bloemer really got me with this, I'm absolutely loving it. I've read it thrice already, what a delight! The bond portrayed in here just makes me blush. It was a fantastic time with my daughter reading this, it was filled with lots of fun, a perfect way to get to spend time together and mind you we also learnt a couple of lessons. And from my experience with kids, these kind of lessons are the ones that stick and are so hard to forget because of the ease with which they are learnt.

I feel like it took about five minutes to read this book because it was so action packed. The story starts out with a news broadcast and then is filled with chaos that keeps the reader going. I really wanted to finish this book in one sitting because I had to know what was going to happen next. I’m excited to see what is going to come next too and would recommend buying the next book at the same time as you buy this one, so you don’t have to wait for a download. The characters are entertaining, and the vampires are well researched, which definitely adds to the appeal of the story. Apart from that, the book could have used a bit more editing to add to the smoothness of the book. Other than that, it’s a great read that vampire fans are bound to love

The book is intended for upper elementary and middle school readers. It starts a little slow, which might be a problem for some younger readers, but picks up in third or fourth chapter. The language level is excellent for age ten through thirteen-year-old students with plenty of jokes and snark to liven up the frequent violent battles between the Baxters and the evil arms dealer, Aladdin Salazar and his minions. The characters are a little flat in the beginning, but develop reasonably well by the end. The pacing is a lot like the cartoons aimed at this age group. The book ends with a save-the-earth message, and the hero…oh, wait. That would be a spoiler that almost popped out. You’ll have to read it for yourself.

Adventure read for the kids
Adventures of a mad scientist is a fun fast paced adventure written for 10 and up age group. I have reviewed several books and anytime I get one like this , I like to read it with my daughter. I must say this one passed the rest. My daughter really enjoyed the book and thought the characters were fun and easy to follow. I found the characters to be developed and relateable. This is a good read for young and old. My daughter is 9 and we both enjoyed the book as well as the opportunity it provided for us to share some time together. Recommend this one to all ages.

While I enjoy the (copious amounts of) young adult novels that deal with darker/scarier themes, I found this novel a nice change from the usual zombie apocalypse/dystopian YA tropes. While there was a tense scenario that dealt with some darker consequences, the book's overall themes are overwhelmingly positive.
I will definitely be recommending this novel to friends (especially those with children) who enjoy this genre. Not only does it have a refreshingly positive set of themes, but it also explores some of the nuances of the human character in unexpected ways that will challenge younger readers and give them something to think about.

Adventures Of A Mad Scientist by Mike Bloemer is a great science fiction book that will appeal to kids ages 10 and over. The author helpfully provides a summary of the plot in the beginning of the book, kind of seeming like you don't need to read the book at all, but don't skip this one, it is worth the read and is very entertaining. The story is exciting, the pace is fast and all of the characters are relateable, especially Jesse Baxter and his sisters. A crazy uncle scientist, a highly sought after vaccine, and you have the makings for a fun and engaging story. The overall message is one of overcoming evil; highly recommend.

Adventurous ride for kids!
This is a fun book for kids but comes with artifacts for violence. The good part is that it is an adventure for and by kids wherein 10 and 12-year-old team up with their mad but brilliant scientist uncle to fight with the army of evil robots. Thrill, action, imagination, creativity and humor is throughout the story making it an exciting read for any age group though kids above the age of 10 are the key audience here. Good destroys evil by determination, technique and unity is the key message as I understand.

Just read the descriptor!
I have never read such an incredibly long and involved book description in my life. It leaves the reviewer very little to say as the plot is elaborated in such tremendous detail. All that remains is for me to say that this book is about teens and is surely pitched at teen readers. It is written in a breathless style to get across the inherent zaniness of every character. All the Baxters, adults and children, are larger than life and the fact that the eccentric scientist uncle is known as ‘Mad Doc’ says it all. I can imagine teen readers enjoying the story.

i am really not into sci fi but i found this to be a great story. I loved the different characters and how they interacted together, especially Goldie the trashcan robot with the fish bowl on her head and her attitude.
The kids were remarkable well in tuned with each other as well as their uncle when battling the evil forces.

A great YA SciFi
Adventures of A Mad Scientist is targeted toward the YA audience and, in my opinion, it is perfection for that market. The story was entertaining and easy to follow, while the characters were relatable. The ending left me, a 30+ year old female, looking to the next novel. I think this is a great introduction piece to the genre for this age level.

Thanks for a good read.

“We must be the only humanitarian activists on the planet who carry more weapons than the USMC.”
Author Mike Bloemer makes a fascinating revelation with this new book –ADVENTURES OF A MAD SCENTIST – a book evidently written for youngsters 10 years and up but a book so well constructed with hilarious spoofs and puns that it will most certainly find an audience among adults looking for an entertaining escape from the madness of today! .
Mike’s writing style is very contemporary, using all the new paraphernalia of the tech world and then some, but the delight in his prose is best describe by an introduction to the opening paragraphs of this story – ‘At a refugee camp in Darfur, in the not-too-distant future… “Ororo, get down!” Jesse Baxter yanked his sister to the ground just as gunfire whizzed over their heads. Ororo’s prosthetic arm slammed into his side, causing his eyes to tear up. Ororo started to say something, but all Jesse heard was rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat! As gunshots rattled Jesse’s eardrums, he struggled to figure out what the heck was going on. He and his sister had been playing soccer when hot lead suddenly rained down upon their heads. He assumed Janjaweed militants were invading the refugee camp. The gunfire suddenly stopped. Jesse and Ororo lay in the ditch for several nerve-wracking minutes. They finally looked up when their mother, Mrs. Baxter, shouted, “Eat lasers, scumbags!” Jesse watched in admiration as his mother ran out from behind a hut, wielding two laser blasters. She looked like Rambo in drag. The convoy of Janjaweed militants scattered like the cowards they were.
