This is the best book on bullying that I have read. It tackles the complex culture that surrounds bullying and acknowledges the fact that different people have different motivations for bullying that require different solutions. I also liked the focus on the third group in the bullying dynamic, which are the bystanders.
The book provides solutions that go beyond document, such as how to ask and train bystanders to be upstanders, changing a bullying culture in a school to one that emphasizes kindness, helping the person who is bullied to look at the dynamics of the bullying situation to find ways to change it, and a lot of relevant information for parents on how to approach the school if your child is being bullied.
I feel Ms. O'Malley made a lot of relevant points, especially about how we obsessively focus on our children's happiness and achievement when perhaps we should be focusing more on how they are connecting with their peers and whether or not they are kind. One question in particular I plan to get into a habit of asking my children: Did you see anyone who needed help today?
Definitely recommend for parents, educators, counselors, and anyone else who works with kids.
