I had to edit my biography, changing my status from married to widow. Since I'm often asked how I'm doing, I'll put the answer here. For the most part I'm doing all right thanks to loving family and understanding friends.

I have two sons and four grandchildren. Two rescue dogs allow me to hug, walk, and feed them. In exchange they give me unconditional love and the occasional need for the carpet shampooer.

As the product of a rural upbringing, the wilderness, particularly mountains and evergreens are in my blood. I live in a small southern Oregon town which boasts four distinct seasons, an awesome river, and the ocean within a short drive. Ditto with Crater Lake.

Setting plays a big role in most of my writing as witness by two recent contemporary romance series set in Montana's awesome mountains.

Also writes as Dawn Flindt and Heather Williams.

Madsaw must avenge his father's death by going to the village of the murderer and kidnapping his daughter, Twana. Deep in the forest of the Pacific Northwest, Madsaw travels day and night before he is able to get to the location of the Tillamook tribe. Successful in his mission, Madsaw takes his captive slave back to his village. Twana is a beautiful maiden and she has the unusual power of communicating with all of the animals of the forest. Madsaw must wait for Twana's father to pay a ransom to get his daughter back but he doesn't realize what a hard time he will have keeping his heart out of the negotiations. I love historical fiction and stories of Native Americans so I found this book to be interesting and enjoyable until the very end. Though it was a bit stereotypical, it still had well developed characters and a sound plot. Recommended for lovers of historical fiction.

Daughter of the Forest by Vella Munn is now available from Beyond the Page Publishing. An egalley of this book was made available via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

Wow

What a powerful story. A tale of love, superstition, fear, obedience and faith. The imagery of the forest is so real you walk with Madsaw and Twana ..

This was another great read from the author. I'm really enjoying her series of the first people of Norther America. The h/h were both well crafted and their love for another was a nice progression that occurred naturally through a series of challenging events. Her details of the two different tribes was woven into the story seamlessly. Well done!

Twana , a vision seer and communicator with animals, is kidnapped by Madsaw in retaliation for her father killing his family member. She is made a slave in his tribe who come to know her special powers and fear is born. Madsaw comes to admire his slave and they must find a way to come together despite their traditions . This author opens the native world with her stories and takes the reader back to another time.
Ebook from Netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.

It was a very interesting setting, people but the ending left me with unanswered questions as well as disbelief. It was too tidy and simple and left me wondering whey it took them 410 pages to come to this conclusion.
