Pyper and Julius are getting married. There’s a wedding to plan, dresses to order, and daiquiris to consume. But when Pyper’s younger brother starts dating a young woman who looks remarkably like the new ghost haunting her café, suddenly the plans are on hold until Pyper can unravel a curse that threatens to not only ruin her big day, but her brother, too.
Deanna is a native Californian, transplanted to the slower paced lifestyle of southeastern Louisiana. When she isn't writing, she is often goofing off with her husband in New Orleans, playing with her two shih tzu dogs, making glass beads, or out hocking her wares at various bead shows across the country. Another fantastic addition to the Pyper Rayne series.
Loads of magic, fun and wicked curses.
I am enjoying Pyper's spin off series we still get a good dose of Jade, Kane and other favourites from Jades series but having these stories from Pyper's perspective gives an added splash of Pyper awesomeness.
Julius is so a keeper, I'm also loving Bo and Reagan great side characters that are very quickly becoming favourites and family.
The fourth installment in the Pyper Rayne series is an easy and fun read -- just like the first three.
Pyper, Julius, Jade, Kane, Kat, Lucius, Ida May and a host of other characters will make you laugh and keep you involved in this story. Fast moving, fun people, intrigue, magic, mayhem, lust, ghosts (including a ghost dog), witches, jealousy -- and it all takes place in New Orleans!
Deanna Chase has a way of drawing the reader into the book and making it seem like the story is unfolding all around them.
This is another great addition to the Pyper Rayne series. I look forward to reading each addition to the series because I feel like I catching up with friends. I look forward to reading more from this talented author.
Received a copy of this book from the author, my review has been voluntarily submitted.
Picking out dresses for the bridal party was not going smoothly for the gals, especially when they were outfitting for both Pyper’s and Kat’s weddings. To add to the dismay, Jade was wearing a fake baby-bump so they could see what the dress would look like when her pregnancy progressed to when she would be wearing the dress. When the tight dress ripped, the owner came over to mend it with magic. A ghost was with her, a grandmother or aunt judging to by the resemblance, and Pyper passed a message to the owner, Esme, from her Grandma Tess. In gratitude, Grandma Tess told Pyper of the 1920’s family gowns they had in storage in the back room. She said she should pick a wedding gown from those. And she found the wedding dress of her dreams!
As Pyper changed back to her jeans, her phone buzzed with a call from her newly discovered teenage brother, Bo. He said he and Reagan were at her apartment when a loud boom sounded and lightning raced over the walls. The doors and windows sealed them both inside. Jade and Pyper drove to Reagan’s apartment, Jade’s empath powers feeling evil pouring out of the apartment as she magically forced the door open. Inside, Jade went to the apartment across the hall and again used her magic, discovering a body inside and a broken window where the murderer had escaped into the alley. A symbol glowed on the door. And when the police arrived, having found a collage of pictures of Reagan in the dead man’s apartment, it was clear that they were looking at Reagan and Bo being somehow involved. Will Pyper and her friends be able to find the evil source of the curse that keeps killing? Will they be able to remove it from the one who had been cursed? And will they all survive the “bridezilla” among them, endlessly dragging them from dress shop to dress shop?
This series is a spin-off of the awesome Jade Calhoun series and is equally enjoyable! It’s a fun and suspenseful book that will keep the reader guessing about the murderer and the motive! It’s fast-paced and well written. The characters quickly reveal their personalities throughout the story line, both the good and bad sides of their personalities. But overall, most are very likeable and feel like family to the reader by now. I definitely recommend any of this author’s books. She never lets you down! I voluntarily read a review copy of this book and my comments reflect my honest opinion.
I’ve just started reading the Pyper Rayne series and it is my introduction to the author. It is a spin-off of the Jade Calhoun series and, in turn, it resulted in the creation of the Ida May Chronicles. The series can be read separately from the other books but has occasional references to events that happen in those other books that are usually brief and explained. Given that I read the first few books in this series before I read this book, it is a little harder to say if it can be read as a standalone and I think it can, but I would recommend reading them in order. So far, the books in the series involve a conflict that is resolved in a matter of a few days. The pace is fast, and the story does not lag. The recurring characters and their story lines develop over the course of the books with each one adding something. In my opinion, however, sometimes the development of the relationships or characters could be fleshed out a little more. Pyper’s relationship with Julius is an example of what I mean. They fall in love quickly, but I think the reasons for that could be brought out a little more. The story has humorous moments in it and is more light hearted than grim. The author clearly values strong family relationships, living by an ethical code, and helping others which comes through in both the dialogue that the characters have with each other as well as in the story and how it resolves. I did think that going to the Drive-Thru Daiquiri Stand was a little unlikely, but I will not explain why because it would involve spoilers. The story is set in a paranormal world with witches and a demon hunter. There is a reference to a portal to hell in the story. A quick scan of the descriptions of the author’s other works implies that she has other paranormal creatures in her writing, but they did not appear in this story. This book has editing errors such as ‘pour’ instead of ‘poor’. Careless mistakes interrupt the reading flow. I liked the story and just bought the next one in the series.
This book literally is my favorite book by far in either both the Jade Calhoun or Pyper Rayne series. Pyper is a great character, and in this fourth installment in the series, she has her hands full with her teenage brother and his friend, as well as planning a wedding. I just love the interactions between the characters as they are so life-like and true to how real people would act. And, the mystery was interesting and fun, too. Just the way Ms. Chase’s book are: great fun, great characters, and great plot! And, to be totally honest, I literally cried tears at the end of the book. It was just so touching. I hope they can achieve what they were setting out to do at the very end. I know that sounded really vague, but I have to sound that way or I’ll spoil the end, and I hate spoilers. If you love this series, you will love this latest; like I said before, it’s the best so far! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Each time Deanna Chase puts out a new book, I can’t wait to read it! Each one gets better & better. I think this is my favorite, so far. Not only does Pyper have do deal with picking out a wedding dress & bridesmaid dresses for her wedding, but she’s also on duty to help good friend Kat find dresses for her’s & Lucien’s wedding. Then there is Jade’s pregnancy, the cafe, & some teenage angst from her brother Bo. However, all that pales when bodies & curses start popping up. It’s one roller coaster ride after another as Pyper & friends try to break the curse before a loved one is permanently affected. I love the relationship between Pyper & Julius, Pyper & Jade, Pyper & Kane, & Pyper & her brother. It shows how “families” don’t always have to be from blood. I can’t wait for the next chapter in all of their lives!
This is a great book; this is the fourth book in the Piper Rayne series and is written by Deanna Chase. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
This book was fast-paced and exciting. I loved how it featured Pyper’s long lost brother. It really helped him develop as a character and how his relationship continues to get stronger with Pyper as well. The fact that Julius is absent for much of the book started to wear on me though. I can appreciate how Pyper is a strong and independent woman who’s intelligent & powerful enough to solve mysteries without him coming in to save the day, but I wish there was some equality in their sleuthing. I can see how they could be a powerhouse couple, but they’re always pulled in separate directions. The end of the mystery was unexpected and thrilling. I couldn’t wait to dive in to the final book in the series.
This is the fourth book in the Pyper Rayne series, which is a spinoff of the Jade Calhoun series by Deanna Chase. As usual, the writing is great, the storyline is engaging. All my favorite characters were there and they feel like real people, with their good sides and faults, too. Pyper's new-found little brother takes front stage in this story, as his friend/girlfriend Reagan is a major suspect in a murder. Pyper and Jade have to work hard and use all their supernatural powers to find out who the real culprit is to get Reagan off the hook. If you enjoy supernatural/paranormal stories, you'll love this book. You can read it as a stand-alone, or start with the first of the series.
Deanna Chase has done it again. She draws you into her world and makes you wish you had friends like this.
I found this story engaging and so worth the read. I enjoyed catching up with characters that I would love to be friends with and share adventures with. Whenever you get Pyper and Jade together you know you are going on a ghostly adventure. Then you throw in Ida May and it turns into a great time.
With addition of Bo and now, Reagan Pyper has her hands full on top of planning a wedding.
This cast of characters just gets better and better.
Excellent story about families! Pyper, Julius and Bo are a family. But Kane and Jade make up another family with Pyper, Julius, Bo, Kate and Julian but we must not forget pets and ghosts who are part of the family. This is an excellent story. The mystery is well thought out and written. You will find the action/mystery, romance and humor combined make up an excellent book! I look forward to the next Pyper or Jade book!
Pyper and Julius are planning their wedding, that is until a murder brings everything to a screaming halt. Pyper must figure out who killed her brother's girlfriend s neighbor. The police think the brother/girlfriend were involved. But Pyper knows better. She knows black magic is involved and she must figure out a way to break the spell before anyone else gets killed. Great read. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
The fourth installment of the Pyper Rayne series is just as good as the previous ones!! We follow Pyper try to protect her brother when he finds himself in some deep serious trouble. It was a whirlwind of a investigation and of course it was fun to see Ida Mae instigate some great scenes, that turned out to be hilarious. The narrator, Gabra did a fabulous job narrating the story and I just love her voice for Pyper. Highly recommend.
We get to follow the lines of Piper, Julian, and Bo as they and their friends try to solve a curse that is killing people. It's a race to solve it before Bo or his female friend either get a murder pinned on them by the awful New Orleans police, or get murdered themselves. Meanwhile, Pyper & Kat continue to try to fit wedding planning into their busy schedules. The book is great, and I think mu description isnt doing it justice.
Paper always seems to have new levels of wild and crazzzzzy happening on her life! This has new levels with her found brother living with her, her engagement to Julius, planning her wedding and oh, a curse gone wild and targeting loved ones.
Frightening and exciting things happen as with all things in the Chase story universe (love her series!) great story and an absolutely worthwhile read
Piper gets a call from her brother needing her help, when she arrives she finds them trapped in the apartment and a neighbor dead, with a strange mark on his door. Jade is able to neutralize the hex but what follows put their lives in jeopardy and someone close to them may die in the process of getting to the bottom of it.
Let me start by saying Deanna Chase is one of my favorite authors... I read this book on kindle unlimited and got a promo copy of the audible version. That out of the way...
I love how one book feeds into the next. My favorite part of bo getting a girl friend and the lesson of being a strong woman not needing revenge.
You don’t wanna mess with I’m so filled up with warm fuzzies I could cry love and adore these characters they’re so wonderful and caring and amazing can’t wait for next instalment but really need to go to bed so will have to wait till tomorrow argh so frustrating but will be all over the next book tomorrow afternoon woo hoo
Pyper finds the perfect sapphire necklace to go with her vintage wedding dress. Just one problem: it’s cursed. Oh yeah, one other small problem: the curse seems to be after Bo. Join Pyper and the gang, as they try to solve the mystery of the cursed necklace. This is Chase at her best!
Deanna Chase has a real talent. Her Pyper Rayne series is delightful, filled with humor and intrigue. I love the patchwork of colorful characters that flow from book to book, and even the ghosts Pyper sees can be charming. I'm already ready for the next book in the series, can't wait.
This is an excellent story full of magic and peril, diamonds and curses. There is a lot of sexual tension but all in good taste.I enjoyed the mystery that the story was built around as well.
Beautiful diamond necklace, glowing symbols, murder and mayhem but with all the laughs and emotion that an awesome author can bring to a story. Leaves me wanting more.
Another great book in this series! Very entertaining throughout with a wonderful ending. I really enjoy these characters and their part in the mystery. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.
I’ve read all the books thus far in the Pyper Rayne series. After the first one, I became hooked! I enjoy reading Deanna Chase books. I am looking forward to reading the next book!
These books keep getting better and better. I really enjoy the characters, both old and new. The New Orleans setting is so perfect for the setting. This particular storyline was entertaining and some of the scenes were downright hilarious.
4.0. Forgot how fun this series is, so glad I am getting back to it to finish it. Supernatural elements, New Orleans and mysteries...yes thank you. It is not hard to fall in love with all the character. Suspend beliefs and enjoy the ride!
