Monsters lurk in the shadows. Evil comes out to play at night. Your worst nightmares are real. All of the ghost stories and supernatural tales you read to yourself as a child are true. You have every reason to be scared, you just don’t know it because you can’t see it. You don’t have the gift. I do.
Forces of darkness are at work, doing their very best to destroy all that is good in the world. I should know- they nearly destroyed me. My family was slaughtered, killed by the creatures we spent our lives hunting. I would have been killed, too, if it wasn’t for a mysterious man that appeared out of nowhere and saved me, then vanished just as quickly.
I owe him my life. I also blame him for it.
It’s been two years since that night, but it feels like yesterday. I can still hear their screams and see the blood pooled beneath their bodies. And I can still see the piercing blue eyes of the man that saved me and feel his warm, strong arms wrapped around me as he carried me to safety.
I don’t expect to ever see him again. But then again, life has a way of surprising you, of kicking you in the ass right when you least expect it.
*Dark & Broken Souls was originally published as two separate stories: Dark Souls & Broken Souls.
This book had me at vampires. I really enjoyed this book. A new take on vampires, which I would think now days is not an easy thing to do. I liked the characters and it reminded a little of my love for the Twilight Series. *This book was given to me for free at my request at a LibraryThing giveaway and I provided this voluntary review.*
Kaylie was in college and bartender at night. That, along with sleepless nights made her always on edge. Her parents had been killed two years ago, but Kaylie was still adjusting. While writing her paper for her class. She noticed a guy wearing sunglasses watching her. He, also, showed up at her job. It turned out that he was the one who saved her when her parents were killed. Her parents were soul hunters and so was she. The sunglasses guy turned out to be the one who saved her. He ,also, was a soul hunter and so was his brother.-Rafe and Ethan. Just like Kaylie was. The souls were after her and her two year lapse of training made her more vulnerable.
I have to say... after being burned by another book similar to this one I was dubious about taking this up. I am glad I did. This book had a familiar feel to it and it wasn't long before I realized why... It reminded me of the TV show Supernatural. I don't want to give anything away but the story was a new twist on the Hunter theme and I enjoyed the character dynamics. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a light read with a Sam and Dean feel to it.
If you like Supernatural and Buffy the Vampire Slayer then this book is for you. We're introduced to Kaylie a young college students whose family were massacred by vampires 'Souls' when she was younger. Enter Rafe and Ethan two Hunter brothers who are helping Kaylie find out about her true identity and some answers to questions that have been asked such as why is she so important to the vampire and Rafe? Are all of her family really dead? I really liked Kaylie as a character. She is strong and a little stubborn but with her background you can see why. I liked the banter between her and the brothers as well as the sexual tension of will she/won't she get with either of them. I'm interested to see where this series ends and I'm excited to see what will happen next.
This is another book about vampire hunters, but is very well done. The characters and villans all seem believable. The story keeps you wanting to read more. I think this book would appeal to young adult as well as adult audiences. I would love to read the others in the series.
This kind of has undertones of Supernatural, especially when it comes to the brothers. There is a bit of mystery which keeps things interesting. Kaylie is a sassy character.
