Through Clenched Teeth

Rate this book
THROUGH CLENCHED TEETH is an anthology of lyric writing by some of today's most exciting female-identified voices. The pieces are a violent rejection of patriarchal culture and coalesce around anger, resistance, otherness, and shock.

As Adrienne Rich, in her poem "Natural Resources," said, "I am tired of faintheartedness, / their having to be exceptional / to do what an ordinary woman / does in the course of things / I am tired of women stooping to half our height / to bring the essential vein to light . . ."

So say we.

It's our visceral response to the election of Donald Trump, to the Republican Party's repeated attempts to police women's bodies.

It's not for everyone, but it was for me. Sometimes words that lean towards dark can bring you into the light. I've been working on getting back to the light in my life ,and this book helped. The words of these women carried me for days, and I will forever be grateful to them for that. NOTE: My ratings come from my personal attachment to the book, not for Goodreads' collective ideals.
