Iphigenia Holt is a good little witch who grew up under the thumb of a wicked mother and two powerful sisters. Pegged as a caretaker, Iphi hides a secret that would change the way everyone around her views her: she’s an empath. And yet she doesn’t let that stand in her way. A soaring circus performer with a fierce love for animals and the downtrodden, Iphi tumbles her way through life, hiding the hurt just being around others can inflict...

...Until she meets an enigmatic vampire and his three hot shapeshifting cousins. Drawn to the brightness she shines into their lives, each man promises to transport Iphi from the monotony of her life into a world truly filled with magic. They offer her love, protection—and an unconventional arrangement that will make her the scandal of Distant Edge.

But when a rogue vampire attacks Iphi, it’s time for the men to step up and for Iphi to fight back the only way she knows how: with love, compassion, and her inner radiance. If love can’t conquer evil, her four protectors are more than willing to bare tooth and claw at her side—whether she’ll have them or not.

A paranormal, urban fantasy reverse harem series. This is book 1 out of 3 in the Tales From the Edge Series.

I really liked this book. It was fast paced, constantly had my attention, and I swear I lost time while reading it. One minute, I was 25% through and then, what felt like ten minutes later, I was done. This book just flew by for me and the pacing was spot on throughout.
When I started this book, it was clear that I didn't have all of the information that I needed. A lot of characters were being introduced like I was supposed to know them already. Little did I know, this is actually the second series chronologically in this world. The author's other series, Love on the Edge, came first and it is about all of the side characters in this book, including Iphigenia (the main character's) sisters. So because I hadn't read their stories first, there were some things that didn't make sense to me and I did always have a feeling that I was missing something. I don't think that the author explained the side characters very well and there were some things in the plot that didn't completely make sense to me because of it.
Besides that issue, I had no problems with the book. I had a lot of fun while reading it and I will be continuing the series. I just wish that some background information would have been explained a little more. After reading this, I am interested in reading about Iphigenia's sisters and checking out some of Chloe Adler's other books.

I liked it and I also found that Iphi was a very bright and good character. Unfortunately, I do not like the way the romance is going for now.

- Awful selfish tyranic mom
- Super cute little dragon
- Circus performances
- I kind of want to read the other series from the same universe of the author now!

It wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. At least for me it wasn't. The story failed to capture my attention for longer than a few minutes and I found my mind wandering a lot. But what really did not work for me were the characters. I'm not sure I liked even one of them, but especially the main one - Iphigenia (I stumbled on her name every single time I read it). She's a bleeding heart and wants to save everyone she meets. And while that's not really so bad, the fact that she completely disregards her own feelings is. She cares about what everyone thinks and feels, trying to please the people around her and she wants everyone to like her, and that's just not something I understand. Plus, Iphi spends a lot of her time in the state of self doubt and that is simply exhausting to read about.
Anyone else I plain and simple did not care much about. Except maybe Iphi's mom, but my feelings for that woman were not nice. Aurelia is a lunatic (and not the fun kind) and the fact that Iphi spent all her life trying to appease her mother is another reason as to why I did not like the main heroin.

Overall, I simply do not think that this book is for me. Not sure whether or not I'm going to read the next book. I think not.

I received a free copy through Booksprout and voluntarily reviewed it.

Distant Light sounded interesting and I am glad I got the chance to read it. It's a reverse harem paranormal romance story set in the Edge universe. There's a bit of danger, some family drama, relationship dynamics and some fun side characters. It kept my attention and I enjoyed the book for the most part.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the main character Iphi, she's such a nice character who always sees the best in people and I liked that about her. I liked how she wanted to help others were she could. Although she did take that a bit too far at times, living under the oppressive thumb or her mother and almost losing herself in the process. I liked seeing her change a bit throughout the book.

The romance part was well done. I liked how she got to know these four men and how each of them had their own personality. Although I had hoped to get to know a bit better, I do think each of them was different enough and was able to form an image of all of them. It did feel a bit like they fell into one clear characteristics, the creative type, the strong and bulky one and the psychologist. It was a tad overdone, but at the same time it did make it easy to remember who was who. The one I felt we got to know the least is actually Rhys, he just seemed a bit bland to me.

The reverse harem aspect was well done. I liked how Iphi had her doubts and felt a bit weird when she started to have feelings for two of them and then more and wasn't sure how to handle things at first. That felt realistic. The reverse harem part was done differently than in the reverse harem novels I read so far. Instead of meeting one guy at a time, she meets them all at once and the guys already know each other and are brothers. It did weirded me out a bit that they were all brothers and knew their brothers all liked the same girl, but it was nice to see they already had such a close bond to each other.

I also liked how we got some parts from the guys point of views as well. The focus is on Iphi, but each man has some parts from his point of view. And I felt that this also helped to get to know them a bit better and it was interesting to hear their thoughts as well. It also was nice how she had some scenes with each man alone as well. I liked seeing how she interacted with everyone individually and as a group or anything in between. There are two sex scenes toward the end of the book and I liked it took them a while to get to that stage. Although it still felt as little bit fast when I think of how everything happens over a few days.

What I didn't care for was their alpha behavior and while I understood they wanted to protect her it quickly turned into one of those conversations where the men are being all alpha and saying she needs protection and they want to watch over her, with her insisting she can take care of herself and wants her independence. I just didn't care for that and it bothered me Iphi was so stubborn at that point and that the men were so annoying and didn't even tell her the whole truth. Maybe if they told her everything in a calm way instead of going all alpha males on her she would've understood their concern better.

There were some fun side characters, although it did feel like they all had their own story already. Like with later books in some of those romance series were each book features a different characters. When I looked up the author's other series it seems that series features some of the side characters we met here. And I kinda wished I had started there. Tough this book can easily be read as a standalone I like to read things in order they happen.

Besides the romance there is a bit about Iphi's job, she performs at the circus and teaches lessons during off season. I thought it was a nice addition and gave some more flavor to her character. There's also a plot line about a rogue vampire that's on the lose. The men know more about this, but we don't get to know what they know about it, only that they're not telling Iphi what they know. I didn't really care about the rogue vampire plot line. It sort of felt added to the book and like it didn't quite blend well and fit in there. I also didn't really care about the cliffhanger. I normally don't mind them, but the cutting of a scene in the middle to create a cliffhanger just feels artificial to me.

I liked the part of the world building we got to know about. This is another aspect where you notice the author already created this world before this is there is very little world building, but what we get to know feels very natural like the author knows exactly how everything works, which was nice. And throughout the book I did get a good feel for how things work. The paranormal aspect is subtle, but at the same time it's part of everything and nicely woven throughout the story.

To summarize: I enjoyed reading this book. Iphi was a great main character and I liked how kind and caring she was, seeing the best in people and wanting to help if possible. The romance was well done too and I liked how we got to know each of the men a bit. They did seemed a bit centered around one characteristic, but that did make it easy to remember who was who. Rhys was my least favorite as it felt like he stayed a bit bland, while the others had more personality in my opinion. It also was nice how we got some parts from each of the men's point of views too. I wasn't too happy they didn't tell Iphi the full truth and went al alpha male and insisting they had to protect her on her, but also didn't care for how Iphi was super insistent she could handle herself. There are some other things going on as well besides the romance, I liked the circus scenes, but didn't really care for the rogue vampire plot line. The ending is a cliffhanger in the middle of a scene. All in all I did enjoy this book and learning about this world the author has created.

Cliffhanger? YES

Did I like it? Yes. I'm not sure if I like it enough to continue.

Story: I was somewhat interested in the story. Iphigenia seemed like a kind girl if not somewhat naive that could grow in to something amazing. I liked that she was a circus performance. I could not stand however her mother and how she treated her. I wonder what motivation a person would have to be with a person like her mother. Her mother just seemed bat shit crazy to me. For the life of me, I don't know why Alistair was with her.

The guys: Nothing really stood out for me about the guys but it annoyed me that even though Iphi liked all four of them, she never really made that clear in book 1. Also, it was annoying that Thorn was stuck in his dragon form for so much of the book and still remained so at the end.

Narration: I wanted to love the narration but the female narration was just okay. I didn't love her voice for the guys but it was bearable. However the guy narration made the guys sound too gruff and he made the females voice too valley girl or something. Or maybe like a teenager.

This was okay for the first in a series but I'm not sure. yet.

Okay so right off the bat I knew this was a book I wouldn't care much for, but I will admit it was actually much better than expected, sure there was the (expected) sex scenes that were ungodly long and imo weird but they didn't happen until well over halfway through the book (thank satan). I really liked the characters (mostly the sisters and iphi). So even though I have no plan on reading the rest of the series (despite the cliffhanger lmao) nor anymore books like this, it wasn't the down right torture I was expecting, though some of it was torturous ngl.

Interesting take on a classic

I tend to enjoy weird takes on my favorite fairy tales and this one didn’t disappoint. Eager to read the next in the series.

Reverse Harem (no ⚔️)
Law Enforcement MMCs
Witch, Vampire, Shifter
Insta Love
Small Town
Protective Men
Supernaturals living openly amongst humans

❗️Ableist language casually used by MMC

Plot
Iphigenia is a performer at the circus, who is being hunted by a rogue vampire. Rhys and his cousins are law enforcement, who come to the Edge because they have been after the rogue vampire for a while and know he is after Iphi. They plan to protect her, but all fall for her along the way

Lowkey all interesting aspects of this book got lost around the halfway mark.

I admit this is nitpicky, but I need this magical perfume that all the female characters in these books seem to wear.

Characters
Iphigenia is a witch and an empath. She lives with her controlling and emotionally abusive mother. After her sisters left she made herself responsible for taking care of her mother. Because her mother is so controlling she doesn’t want the MMCs to follow her around and protect her, especially because she knows . But the narrative constantly undermines her.
Iphi will tell them to get lost and that she isn’t helpless, walk around the corner and gets jumped. Like immediately. And this happens like… three times.

The MMCs are bery protective and to give them credit, there is some conflict and back and fourth regarding conflict between them stemming from all of them being with her. Yet it keeps repeating like “we would all be fine sharing her… anyway, I can’t make a move because he likes her” what?

Their personalities were not easily distinguishable. I’ve noticed a trend in Reverse Harem where basically all MMCs are one three dimensional character torn apart into a bunch of one dimensional ones. This is another one of those

Rhys is her step father's grandson (so she is technically his... aunt? the family tree in this is very confusing lowkey...) and a vampire. which is his only real interesting characteristic or plotpoint

Thorn is the pack leader and a dragon shifter. He had an interesting thing going for him until halfway through he is .

Caspian is shifter and the first whom Iphi really trusts. He wants to share Iphi with Rhys, because as it is repeated many times, they’ve done that before. He is the only one to really trust her from the beginning and wants to tell her everything

Dominic is… also there? He admittedly is one of the more compelling MMCs, but plot wise he doesn’t really do anything. He is a psychologist, so in his POV we constantly hear “My psychologist brain…” and it feels borderline pretentious.

Writing
Uh, the random ableist language really threw me, to be honest… Yikes. It’s one thing to use such language to show when a character sucks (still not good imo) but this was just one of the good guys using derogatory language against disabled people for no reason

The relationship between Iphi and her mother was honestly the best thing about this. The way Iphi slowly loses the childlike loyalty she had for her mother was really nice, especially because it wasn’t the usual over the top evil parent trope.
Her mother didn’t beat her up, sell her, pimp her out, torture her, etc the way parents often do in such books to give the FMC a tragic backstory. The mother is clearly mentally ill and Iphi is stuck in a situation that people with narcissistic parents often find themselves in. It was interesting, compelling and emotional.
Until she kisses her guys once and is completely over the whole thing as though nothing happened. Sure.
Also, we all know and love him, the trauma curing D. Sure, why not

There is no real tension building. Sudden first kisses with no build up, action scenes beginning out of nowhere to a point where I had to go back because “wait, why is this happening now…?” and the sexual tension was… not great?
In one scene it’s being described how they’re eating and moaning because it’s so good for like 5 paragraphs. I think it’s supposed to be hot and show how much they’re into each other but ngl I just felt awkward. Like imagining chewing noises and moaning in a public cafe… And they were eating desert, like nothing about this is suggestive.
Plus I hate the microtrope with the fmc eating and everyone staring st her mouth and getting so worked up. I just don’t like it

Audio
I was not a huge fan of the male narrator. I generally don’t like when the male narrator tries to imitate female voices and vice versa, but in this case especially he made every female character found like a bratty kid, and the men honestly sounded like frat bros.

Conclusion
I didn’t dislike it (even though this review sounds very negative, ik), but I’m also not really invested. The characters weren’t all that distinguishable to me and the plot kinda lost itself along the way. At a certain point all interesting elements were lost and it was just a bunch of push and pull between the characters. I don’t think I’ll continue the series

A Distant Light by Chloe Adler is book one in her Tales from the Edge series. This book is a reverse harem novel. In this book, we follow the youngest of three witches – Iphigenia Holt. She is an amazing performer at the circus and strives to continue to improve her art. At the age of 20 years old, she has chosen to continue living at home with her mother. Her mother’s boyfriend, Alistair, is moving in with them. During this transition, Iphigenia meets Rhys, Alistair’s grandson. Immediately, Iphigenia’s mother is far from pleased. During the summer Iphigenia performs with the circus and it’s her time to shine. On opening night of the circus, Rhys and his cousins, show up to watch her perform, and to make themselves known to her. Iphigenia does an amazing performance that leaves the men more than a little in awe of her. Iphigenia being an empath can sense the feelings of those around her and she gets a sense of this from the men. As she heads home after her performance, Iphi hears something that alerts her to trouble. A human is being taken by a vampire against her will. Iphigenia, being the generous heart that she is, stops to help. The vampire recognizes her but quickly disappears. Iphigenia doesn’t know it but she has placed herself in immense danger. With encouragement from her friend, Burgundy, she reports the incident to the police and once again runs into the men, Rhys and his handsome cousins. There is a definite chemistry between them all, and it begins a slow burn between them that will come to a flame sooner or later.
A Distant Light by Chloe Adler is the first book that I have read by this author, and I enjoyed it very much. I’ve been hearing lots of good things about this story and so when I saw the opportunity to read this book I pounced. This story does not disappoint. Iphigenia is portrayed as both a strong character but also a gentle-hearted person as well. She’s independent but caring enough to put aside her own wants for another. She tries to be the bridge between her mother and her two older sisters, but you can tell that it’s a struggle. The chemistry between her and the men is dynamic. The author does a good job working it. The romance and interest start off with a slow burn, of where they are resisting taking that next step. The men are worried about damaging the relationship between them and even Iphigenia has that same thought as well. She uses her abilities to sense their feelings but she is not “in your face” about it. I like that the men are caring and protective of Iphi from the very beginning but allow her to fight her own battles most of the time. There are some hot-headed moments, but nothing over the top.
The only issues I have with this story are that it leaves me with some unanswered questions that I feel could have been answered as the story goes along. As I have stated above, this is the first book that I have read by Chloe Adler, so maybe the answers I seek are in another book. But I am curious as to what is going on with Iphigenia’s mother. Why is she the way that she is? She’s so quick to judge and condemn. I can understand the maternal concern but she seems to be overreaching more often than not into just wanting to be controlling. For me, it just seems like she doesn’t want any of her daughters to have a relationship, but then it’s okay for her, the mother, to have relationships. It just leaves me a bit confused. As someone who is stepping into a new series, by a new author (for me), I would have liked it if the author had given some explanation for the irrational behavior of the mother. Also, another issue I have is when Iphi and her friend Burgundy are in Confectionaries after leaving the club Promise. It's just them. Then Caspian shows up. So that brings the number of characters up to three at this location, however, when the author shifts to the very next chapter suddenly there are more. Where did the other men come from? There is not an explanation of this. Caspian didn't say that the others came with him because he was left behind to recover while the rest went to the club.
All in all, I enjoyed this story very much. The author kept me engaged from beginning to end. I did everything but cry. I laughed, I frowned, I got irritated with various characters (mostly the mother), and the loved the relationships/friendships between Iphigenia and her sisters, her friend Burgundy and the men. Overall, I feel that the story is very well done. As this is a reverse harem novel, there are steamy scenes so if you are not into that then skip this book. The scenes do not happen until deep into the story, so there is no rushing into it. But still, if you prefer clean reads just skip this book, and save yourself the energy of complaining about what you have already been forewarned about. Also, this book does have a bit of a major cliffhanger, so if you don’t like cliffhangers, just pass on this book. While the cliffhanger is a big one, it is not abrupt. You see it coming so there isn’t any…one minute you’re reading along merrily and the next thing you know it’s over and you’re left confused.
All in all, I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I’m taking off half a star because I feel that the author could have explained some of the issues with the mother to give us some idea of why she is the way that she is. I will be going back and reading the author’s other series to hopefully gain some clarity, but I feel that some should have been given in this story as well. The story overall is well written, very engaging and definitely a book that I will be recommending. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series. I am absolutely eager for more of Iphigenia and her men.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Iphigenia/Iphi is a witch with an extra helping of empathy, which she keeps under wraps. Being able to feel and sometimes with intense emotion really see what a person is thinking and feeling allows her to see peoples’ true intentions. However this happy glow bubble sometimes blinds her to real dangers with serious consequences.

She is a twenty Y/O still living at home circus performer. Her other siblings have moved out of the house and she is afraid of abandoning her mother, who she knows gave up a lot to raise them. Her mother Aurelia is not above using guilt and manipulation to get Iphi to stay by her side. She is at times cruel and not above using her witch powers to get what she wants.

When Iphi is introduced to Rhys who in turns introduces her to his “brothers” Caspian, Dominic and Thorn, they are a combo of vampire shifters. Each of them is drawn to the light that surrounds Iphi. They want her individually and collectively as they are all used to sharing. Unknown to Iphi they have been taking turns watching her. She is in danger from a rogue vampire that may have connections to something much worse.

I liked the character building of Iphi her light and caring is so obvious. She wears her heart on her sleeve that’s for sure. Her mother Aurelia is a piece of work. While you can understand some of her protective motives she is a mean woman that has no compunctions about tearing her daughter down to get her way. Her sense of love has become a bit twisted.

We get to know the guys and they each are in a way part of a whole. They each bring something different to the table, Caspian is more artistic, Thorn is the muscles, Rhys is the protector and Dominic is the negotiator of the family they are also all alpha males.

I like that things didn’t just head straight for the bedroom and we got to know the characters a bit. Plus the growing attraction that Iphi feels for all of the guys to varying degrees and how she is trying to wrap her head around wanting them all flows believably.

Some parts of the story just seemed to jump around and at times it took a few paragraphs to realize we had jumped to another characters thoughts. The transitions didn’t flow as smoothly as I would have liked. Parts of the book drug for me and I did skip a few pages here and there. It felt like we were being force fed a lot of info to make the plot more plausible. The traumatized rogue vampire was a little jarring at times. The guys playing alpha and trying to make Iphi into a sub when they could clearly see she was an independent woman just kind of put up a wall for me. Be up front with her so she can protect herself and utilize their assistance as she saw fit. Don’t treat her like a child then want her to be your woman. While I bonded with Iphi I had a harder time really bonding to the guys. The story had a nice mix of witchery, vampirism and a slightly different take on shifters.

DNF

I've been on a MM binge lately as female authors seem to have all taken the same writing class.

I find it so incredibly tedious when authors write FMCs, who can neither fight nor have ANY self-defence skills whatsoever, yet said FMCs will tell those who are trying to help them... "I don't need anyone's help, I can take care of myself"... Lord give me strength! 🙄🙄🙄🙄

This does NOT make the FMC seem independent NOR self-sufficient... it makes her a dumbass!

If anyone believes that it does... just trust me on this, you have no concept what independence really means!

Independence means being able to look after yourself... not in a deluded, I can take on the world because I will it sort of way, but being smart enough to have at the very least, basic self-defence skills, knowing how to navigate the world without assistance, but being smart enough to know WHEN you need help & what you can actually REALISTICALLY take on... 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I had to DNF the Fourth Wing series for the exact same reason & every other M/F book that I've read lately, suffers from the same inanity... it's such a moronic trope & even worse, that female readers lap it up & call those dumb FMCs, badass... I can't even 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

That & that FMCs need to be Virgins... honestly, WHY?!? 🙄

We're in the 21st Century & female authors, think that I (& other women) value virginity over all else... it's almost as though it's for the male gaze, but it isn't men reading their books!

WHY does an FMC in her mid to late 20s NEED to be a Virgin?!?... Who's their target audience?!?
What's the purpose of them being a Virgin.

I find it even more egregious in RH, when writers are writing the MMCs as having 12ft schlongs & there's at least 3 or more... HOW does being a virgin help ANY woman in those circumstance?!

Best she know what she's letting herself in for, if she's at least handled a normal sized one or even 9in at least 🤷‍♀️

As I've said, it's been such a popular trope on most of the M/F books that I've read lately, that I'm only currently able to handle MM books as we don't get that kind of stupidity in those books, even when it's a female writer...

SPOILERS!
I had difficulty getting into this book. I love RH novels, I find them vastly entertaining. This book had an interesting premise, with this wholly different world filled with witches and vampires, even shifters. But the follow through fell short.

To start, there are errors throughout the book. The one that stood out the most in mind was when the group is dancing at the club Promise. One minute Iphi is spinning and someone picks her up and when she checks to see who it is, she sees Rhys. But then the next page is from Thorn’s perspective, and it was him that picked her up.

The relationship aspect of the story was unbelievable. One minute Iphi and the men are all complete strangers, and then after a couple of VERY brief interactions they’re all enamored. It was so unrealistic, and to be perfectly frank it was boring. Also, one minute Iphi is insulted and upset with the men because they didn’t tell her everything but then she holds back this huge aspect of herself that lets her be privy to their very private thoughts and emotions.

Another aspect that really bothered me was that it seemed incomplete, as if there were important scenes of the book missing that would have better rounded out what was going on. Also, rather than Iphi coming off as this genuine character who just wants to help people, she comes off as this annoying martyr type who is constantly reminding the reminding just how good of a person/witch she is.

About halfway through this book, I got so bored I had to stop reading it and look for something to engage in. I forced myself to finish it, but it just didn’t really get any better. I think with more work, this book could be really interesting but as it stands now it’s a total miss.

Iphigenia is the youngest of the Holt sisters and the only one still living at home. She is a strong empath and can feel others emotions so that is why she still lives at home with her mother. She can still feel her mother's love and the great pain she hides. Iphigenia isn't happy with a lot of what her mother does like how she treats her sisters or how she treats anyone but shifters. She is also struggling with how much her mother hates her job as an circus performer. Then Iphigenia meets Ryan, the grandson of the vampire that her mother is living with. Sparks fly between the two. Ryan comes to Iphigenia's first performance of the year and brings his 4 cousins and even more sparks fly. Iphigenia is torn between her growing feelings for these five men and her mother's demands.
Ryan and his cousins have dual interests in Iphigenia. They are drawn by her beauty and goodness but she is also a means to a goal they have. The cousins are police who have been tracking a rogue vampire and a recent discovery shows that Iphigenia may be his next target. They want to stop the rogue vampire from killing more but they are also hoping that the vampire is being controlled by someone else since he is Ryan's brother. They keep following Iphigenia to keep her safe. To their surprise all five are falling in love with Iphigenia and are dreading her choosing just one of them.
This is a great story and I really loved Iphigenia. She really was a bright sunshine soul. I voluntarily received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

So delicious

So good! Evil cliffhanger but so good.
Yup I got to get book two....
I'm not going to give any spoilers in this review so don't be afraid to move along in reading why you should read this...lol
The book was amazing. The MC is perfect. The boys are adorable. The plot is fun and the world building is new. I loved it.
Iphi is a sweet emotional goes with her heart woman. Filled with strong will and compassion you just want her to get everything she wants. In this book I feel the Author did a great job at making Iphi the star just as she is in the circus.
The boys are hilarious and cute. I bet as you go on in this series you will find more deeper roots that Iphi will help them through. Each of the boys are unique and in a fashion you can see how diffrent they are when it comes to Iphi.
The plot itself has alot of room for exploring since you know that it ends in a cliffhanger, and not a little one. What is going to happen next? Who knows but I am ready to read book 2 to find out. Absolutely loved this mysterious villain and the destruction that it is unfolding...but what is it? Who is it and why? How does Iphi play into this entire thing?
The world setting is pretty good, with the fact the world knows about the vampire shifter species. I find the cities being setup the way they are is pretty cool. I also like the idea of the goverment playing with it. It seems realistic and believable.
All in all this is a book I would like to own in hardback for my book shelf. I definitely recommend, it kept me turning the pages...I bet it will you too.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is book 1 out of 3 in the Tales From the Edge Series by Chloe Adler. It also has a cliffhanger so be warned! This story surrounds the adorable witch, Iphigenia Holt, ,known as Iphi who lives with her awful mother and two vile sisters. She works in the circus and keeps her secret of being an empath even though being surrounded by so many people isn't easy for her.But she is admired by four men and when Iphi is introduced to Rhys who in turns introduces her to his “brothers” Caspian, Dominic and Thorn she knows that her life is never going to be the same. Whilst she is a witch they are vampire shifters and they are all compelled to be around her as the light that shines around her is breathtakingly beautiful. They all desire her but they are used to sharing even if they want her individually. They have all been keeping watch over her as a rogue vampire is out to do her harm. Each of these four men have different talents that combined make it perfect for Iphi. As the story unfolds you can see Iphi's character developing and especially with the difficult relationship with her mother. A really good entertaining read that I enjoyed. I don't normally read books with cliffhangers but I know that I'm going to read the next two books in the series anyway as I am compelled to find out and see what happens to Iphi and her four men!
DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED

Iphi might just be my favorite! I have loved every book in this series, and I do think they need to be read in order to get the most enjoyment out of them, but there is just something about Iphi that appeals to me on another level. She has always been one of my favorites, even when she was taking a backseat, and I'm so excited that she got her own story. Not just a story, but an intense, action-packed, exciting, heat-filled story. It was perfect!
I don't want to say anything about the plot, so I'm just going to tell you what I like about Chloe Adler's writing. Each of her books is completely different. The characters are connected to each other, but each of them have their own paths to their HEA. Usually after 5 books you will start to see a pattern, but that isn't the case with this series. That doesn't mean that there isn't an overall plot arc, but the originality that has gone into each character and story line is wonderful. The story isn't rushed or forced, the characters are wonderfully developed and interesting, the continuing story line is fabulous and full of detail. I am already anxious to get my hands on the next book in this series, but I appreciate the fact that I have to wait. I know that perfection doesn't happen over night, and this book (and series) is perfection!

I was originally planning on waiting to read this book until more of the trilogy was published, but when I saw the price dropped to $0.99 for a few days I decided to buy it.
This book was a unique spin on the supernatural/paranormal reverse harem genre. Iphigenia is a witch in a world full of other supernaturals, such as shifters and vampires, that somewhat coexist with humans. Iphi is the youngest of three girls, and the only daughter who hasn't left their overbearing mother yet. At twenty years old, the empath feels that she is needed at home and cannot leave her mother alone. But, other than her aerial job at the circus, Iphi feels unfulfilled in life.
After meeting four guys, a vampire and his shapeshifting cousins, she finally starts to branch out and feel accepted by others. When she is targeted by a rogue vampire the guys are there to help, but even though they're keeping secrets, Iphigenia seems to have a handle on the situation.
This book was a great introduction to the trilogy. We meet most of the main characters, the villain still seems to be somewhat unknown, and Iphi is starting to build relationships with some of the guys. While, with this book, she is only intimate with two of them, we can already see her feelings for the other two developing.
I can't wait for book 2!

I was greatful when Ms Adler asked me to read her first book in this series A witches mortal desire, because I started to fall in love with the characters then and my love for them has only grown with each new book. I’m also greatful that Ms Adler hasn’t rushed to release her books because they are of a high standard.
Distant Light sees Iphigenia (yes I did have to refer to the book to get the spelling right) gets to have her own story, like her mother and two sisters she’s of the supernatural world being a witch but also an empath the last part she’s been keeping a secret. Iphi is attacked one night and she also meets some shapeshifters, but here’s the thing they are all drawn to her light. The real kicker comes at the end of the book when it ends on an amazing cliffhanger nooooooooo.
I now can’t wait for the next book to come out. I did receive this book as an arc read and I’m writing this review voluntarily.

Delightful, sexy, innocence and light 💡

Yes! This was a delightful, mysterious and sexy as hell journey. Iphi in all her innocence and naivety has captured the attention of not 1 but 4 sexy beasts. Finally she is seen and she’s happy but very confused. Her protectors aren’t there by chance but Iphi is more than they bargained for. These strong fearless men are blown away and caught up at the same time in her beauty, strength, fearlessness and pure heart. Her light radiates into them, leaving them spellbound so now it’s become personal. There is mystery, danger, intrigue, secrets and lots of heat. Aurelia reared her ugly head once more and I find it hard to sympathize with her or even like her. But Iphi is now with her protectors, the danger to her is even closer and she’s attracted to 4 sexy as hell men, with each fighting for his own place in her heart. Is this her destiny and why is this mysterious entity intent on capturing her?

I really enjoyed this RH more than I thought! The whole circus theme kind of threw me off but it actually isn't a large part of the novel like I thought it would be. Also I really loved how the book was set up in more of a parallel universe where the population is aware of all the shifters and paranormals out there instead of the usual plot where it is one big secret.

The characters in this novel are also really great! They work well together and there is still a little mystery about the guys and where the relationships will head in the next book which I definitely liked. This book was paced reasonably for me in terms of the relationships, I definitely wouldn't call it a slow burn but it also does implode either. This is a great pace for those who like a little action in the first book but don't want all the action ;).

I'm definitely looking forward to the next book to see how that cliffhanger is resolved!

This book is a reverse harem story and the first book in the new series Tales from the Edge, which is a spinoff from the author's previous series Love on the Edge. Although you don't need to have read the previous series I would advise you doing so to get the whole picture of who the main female character is and her background story as she is the youngest sister of three and her two older sisters stories were covered in the previous series. I will warn you this book, like the previous series, is for over 18's due to the hot scenes, so if that isn't for you then neither is this book. The hot scenes are well balanced throughout this book and don't overpower the story as some do. I will also warn you this book does end on a cliffhanger so be warned and this is why I have only given 4 stars. If you enjoy Paranormal Romance that has Witches, Vampires, and Shifters that sizzles with the heat then you will enjoy this book.

Iphigenia is apparently the target of some evil being, and a group of interchangeable guys show up to protect her for their own reasons.

I honestly just didn't like this one, it made no sense. Our main character at times seems the epitome of virginal innocence but in the next breathe she's looking to screw someone in a club bathroom. And this was one of the guys that she had established zero relationship with...so which one is she supposed to be? Also, one page she is struggling with the thought of having more than one love interest and the next she acts like a jealous psycho...and then she goes back to worrying again.

The other problem was the mother. There is not one ounce of explanation as to why she is a lunatic. And why does a woman who's children all have different fathers think that she is the morality police? And people, well Iphigenia anyway, just accepts this behavior?!?

So yeah this one did not work for me.

Oh Iphi! This sweet kind-hearted witch has been one of my series favorites from the very beginning. I'm ecstatic to finally read the stories devoted to her. What can I say about her group of protectors that doesn't get all spoiler-y? I love the lot of them and my heart breaks for the ones that aren't the focus of this book. Their care and concern for Iphi, all of them, is so clearly conveyed. One thing I can say about the romantic partnerships in this series is that normal is certainly not the norm. On a side note, I have a long, and often violent, list of things I would like to do to her mother. That woman is a menace! Also of note: beware of the cliff at the end of this book. It is sharp and it is tall. But that ending guarantees I'm sticking around for the next book.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.

I had read her sister's stories and it was interesting to see the story from Iphigenia's view. She is the younger sister who has tolerated the mother better than her two older sisters. Now, it is time for her to take a chance and find the right man for her. It turns out she is more like her middle sister than she suspected and she finds herself attracted to multiple men.

This has been a great series for those who love ménage and reverse harems featuring paranormal characters like witches and vampires. Iphigenia was the hardest character to really understand as she kept a lot hidden from others. I really enjoyed seeing her stand up for herself and take risks for love. The men she finds really provide her with what she didn't even know was missing from her life.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

Distant Light was a great read. Iphigenia starts out insecure, sheltered, naive even. She is such a strong empath that she wants to help everyone, even at her own expense. I really enjoyed how she grew as a character/person as she began to develop her relationship with the four men. I love a story where the FMC starts out not necessarily weak, but insecure and then shows development into a strong independent woman. Independent, but part of a supportive group relationship.

The men are quite intriguing. I am interested in learning more about their back story together and how everything fits together with Nolan and The Puppeteer. Each man has such sexy, strong, endearing qualities.

Fabulous start to this series. I a reading this a while after it has come out, and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to read book 2.

Distant Light - Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance (Tales From the Edge Book 1) Kindle Edition
by Chloe Adler
I borrowed this book from the KU program and am leaving an honest and fair review.

Iphigenia is more than she seems. A witch in a world of magic, she is a circus performer and a people pleaser.

Her mother is a very passive-aggressive, manipulative, narcissistic woman who has chased away all of her other daughters and treats Iphie as if she were 11, not the grown woman.

Her men are sexy otherworlders from the Edge (which is where the magical people live, separate from us normal folk) – three shifters and a vampire. The characters are pretty standard. The tough guy, the dreamer, the artist and so on.

The book is fun and Iphie is a great character. While this is a standalone series, it appears to be part of a world of other series, so there is a feeling of not having all the information

I enjoyed the story, but may step back and try to catch up, which is something I don't enjoy. I prefer, if you are giving readers linked series, a little more back-fill would be great!

4 stars out of 5
