The Dreaming Stone is set primarily in H.P. Lovecraft's Dreamlands. There, the investigators will travel through many realms of wonders. The Temple of Loveliness at Kiran, the Jungle of Kled, the Great Library of the Dreamlands, the desolate Forbidden Lands, and the Far Side of the Moon are just a few of the stops in this epic campaign. Will the investigators be able to halt Nyarlathotep's plan before it is too late?
I have always loved the Dreamlands setting, even before reading the Randolph Carter cycle, and I do not think I was aware of this book until I found it in a store under a pile of old RPGs. You can imagine it was a very pleasant surprise, but then I put it under another pile of books…until today. Without having played it (or any adventure set in the Dreamlands), The Dreaming Stone feels to me less like a proper campaign, and more like a tool to build your own campaign around. Mostly because there are a lot of random encounters, which are good to give a sense of time and a scale of the world, but which do not add much to the already relatively simple plot. Since the story takes place all around the Dreamlands and back, I think it is a great excuse to explore the world and add a few adventures from other books. But once the investigators are back in the walking world, the ending is surprisingly positive. Yes, you could end a CoC campaign almost better than how you started.
