Marta Campbell has always been the girl no one wanted. Left on the steps of an orphanage at birth. Never adopted. Never chosen by a beau. Never asked to marry. She’d resigned herself to the life of a nanny for other people. Never wanted, never loved, only occasionally needed. Then on the way to San Francisco to take a new nanny position, she is kidnapped. Now freed, she isn’t even wanted as the nanny. So when an angel tells her to go to the mercantile in Creede and accept the first proposal she receives, she has nothing to lose.
Royce Clark is still mourning the loss of his wife after two months. He has a ranch to run and five small children to care for. He knows he’s quickly losing complete control. In a moment of anger, he challenges Marta to marry him and do better caring for his children. Imagine his surprise when she accepts his proposal and insists they marry that very day.
Can this couple find love amid a marriage entered into for the sake of five small children? Will Royce’s love for his deceased wife keep them apart for a lifetime? Will Marta live the rest of her life unloved and only wanted for her childcare and housekeeping skills. Will a threat against the ranch end in the death of yet another Clark?
George McVey always wanted to be a Superhero, sadly no radioactive storms or animals have been a part of his life. One day while spinning a tall tale for his family, some suggested once again that with all his experiences in ministry and his imagination, he should be writing books. This time it was like lightning struck him and he decided why not?
Since then George has been hard at work using his creative imagination and writing several books. He's still adding to his bibliography to this day. You can find them all on his Amazon.com page.
George lives in the wonderful state of Almost Heaven, West Virginia. A few years ago he moved from a single family home to a deluxe apartment in the sky, well the fourth floor anyway. He lives with his wife of thirty years, and a service dog named Daisy Mae. He is visited often by his three children and two grandsons.
Oh my goodness this is the best Cowboys and Angels I've read so far!!!! I laughed and cried I was surprised to see Nathan The Preacher and Grace make an appearance but happy they did!
Writers of Western story rarely disappoint me. I love all the characters in this book. I love the plot. But I could do without the supernatural bits. I also skipped much about the ranching stuff. I know it was a huge part of the story but, if would be better to just focus on Martha and Royce.
Martha was a well done character. She was strong and know when to back off. Royce on the other hand sounded like an annoying heroine. It was like the role was reverse. A wicked idea but fun nonetheless.
Not much could be say without revealing most of the story; it was a novella to begin with. It was a nice and fun read.
A wonderful story of an unloved orphan. Angels guide this unloved lady to her new life and new family. Can two people over come heartache to find love. I highly recommend you read this book and this series.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Do you choose to follow advice? Choose to step up and help? Choose to make a difference in someone's life? Choose to love those around you? Choose to love the one God brought to you? Find out what Marta & Royce choose.
I am loving the world that the Cowboys and Angels series is set in. What I really enjoy are the additions to this world that each author brings, a small touch here a huge advancement there it all adds up to the picture of a wild, dangerous, amazing land in the days long gone by. I feel as though I’m standing on the sidelines watching history take place before my eyes. So, yes, I’m definitely captured and enjoying these stories set in Bachelor, Creede and the surrounding areas of Colorado.
We briefly met Marta in the previous story, Lucky in Love, and although short her part made an impression on me. She is a brave woman who is faced with a now uncertain future because of those events. Her angel gave her a very simple task that would change everything for her and the family she is about to encounter. Love knows no boundaries, and can be endlessly given in different ways to so many people. This is a lesson that Royce, and perhaps some of his children, are about to learn.
I was easily caught up in Royce and Marta’s romance. There is true danger here, loss that is difficult to overcome, yet there is also the hope for a future that is clearly possible when Royce can let go of the past and realize a simple truth. Love heals, and love can be found in the most unexpected places.
We’ll get to meet a few characters from Mr. McVey’s series, Redemption Tales, which I have not read yet… but is now on my to-read list because I really want to find out how Nathan and Grace began. They are a large part of this story and their love, faith and abilities beg the reader to discover what their story is all about.
I loved the angels in Rescuing the Rancher. Gloria and Daniel are in just the right spots at that perfectly needed moment to deliver hope, help and direction. I also have to admit that I enjoyed the way that Death dealt with one low life vermin, that scene is still very vivid in my mind.
If you are looking for an engaging story that takes you back into the old West with believable characters, realistic dangers and a good old fashioned love story then you’ll enjoy Rescuing the Rancher and this entire series. I”m heading out to pick up the next in the series right now. It’s addicting in the very best possible way.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Marta was on her way to San Francisco when she was one of the women that was attacked and kidnapped by Dougal. Now it is over she no longer has a job as a nanny. Gloria comes to her and tells her to go get some lemon drops and take the first proposal that comes her way.
Royce just lost his wife a few months ago and has 5 small children to look after. Marta gets on to him and he tells her if she can take care of the family better than him to marry him and prove it. She does just that.
Trouble comes in the form of rustlers. Not a good time as Marta is trying to figure out of Royce will ever really love her. Can these two save the ranch and their family to find love?
I enjoyed this story and the characters. Marta was easy to relate and Royce was struggling to stay true to his dead wife. We got to meet some new characters and enjoyed them. A great story that will keep the reader turning the pages.
Marta Campbell has lost her job as a governess after being kidnapped. Now free, she has no idea what to do. An angel tells her to go to the mercantile and accept a marriage proposal there.
Royce Clark is a recent widower with five children including a two-month-old baby. He’s at his wits end when he comes out of the mercantile and sees a strange woman holding his crying son. She then chews him out right there in the street. He tells her if she can do better then she can marry him and prove it. He’s surprised when the young lady accepts.
Will Marta and Royce be able to have a loving relationship or will Royce cling to his love for his dead wife and leave Marta as an unloved maid, housekeeper, and nanny?
This is the third book in the Cowboys and Angels series. This series has different authors. This is the first western historical romance I've read that was written by a man. It's refreshingly different to have a story heavy on the man's perspective. The first book set up the town of Creede. The second book set up the town of Bachelor and dealt with the missing women. Now in this third book, we have what happened to one of the captured women and what is going on with something briefly mentioned in a previous book about a family who lost the mother in childbirth and needs another mom.. George McVey created a believable interesting story and I look forward to reading more of his books about Nathan Ryder.
Mr. McVey does an excellent job of writing historical romance that has you on the edge of your seat wondering, "will they or won't they?" There aren't many male romance writers out there, but if you can get your hands on one of his books, you'll be very satisfied.
I loved the premise of this book: I dare you to marry me and care better for my children. So great.
There's plenty of emotional turmoil for both Royce and Marta to work through in their hearts and marriage. The children are the least of their problems!
Wonderful chemistry and setting, plus a little threat to up the tension.
Hero: Royce Heroine: Marta plot/storyline:4.5* Engaging and solid. - She agree's to marry him and help raise his 5 children., with the guide of an angel or two. Ending-5*- A touching HEA. I might have cried, and reread it, very touching and complete!! Reading Enjoyment:4.8* I immensely enjoyed reading this engaging story that is filled with humor, family, love, faith and some really intense moments that brought tears to my eyes. I loved the characters and sub characters. The bonus was how he incorporated one of my favorite characters from his Redemption series.
Marta Campbell felt alone in the world and unloved until she meets a widowed father of five who is struggling with his life. When fate brings the two together their lives begin to change. Marta finally feels a sense of belonging and Royce begins to heal his broken heart. This is a wonderful historical romance with a little faith packed in!
George, Thank you for this book. This is the first book of yours that I have read. It's nice to see how God works in our lives. I am a born again Chris'tian and a survivor of several cancers. God works miracles. I am living proof. Love to read how he works in other lives. I will pass your name to others to read. ☺
God uses what evil does to harm and chages it into blessings for our good
Both hero and heroine come together as a means to meet one another's immediate needs. You will enjoy reading how their love develops with a little help from God via angels and earthly friends who are following God's leading.
Love this series! I really enjoyed the story of the Clark's in Creed. Another great sweet romance! Great cohort of authors for this series! Can't wait for the next book.
I loved reading this story, Marta and Royce both need love, they just do not realize it yet. Together they can bring each other happiness and live, but only if they trust each other.
This book has a good plot, strong characters who struggle in life like everyone does , but delivers a message of hope along with a well told story. I enjoyed it very much and am looking forward to more books by this author
I love the Cowboys and Angels series. There is so much feeling in these stories to help people see things right. I loved Marta and Royce. It shows things happen for a reason. Couldn't put this down. George H McVey really brings his stories to life for you.
She’s an orphan, captured by a saloon owner, then lost her nanny job. But she guided by an angel to help a widower with 5 children. She marries him and they find their way to love.
She thought she was unloved but had the best love of all God's Love.
She didn't know what she was going to do untill she took the advice of a old women who just might be a angel. I liked the way the story brought the two people together and showed them a chance for them.
I loved that the story continues! I loved the angels, but really didn't enjoy the multiple times it talked about him "wanting" his wife when he woke up in the morning. Yikes! I loved the characters, especially little Rachel and Nathan's wife!
I really enjoyed the characters in this story. My only complaint is the timeline, but I think that is the nature of a novella. Things always seemed rushed and happen too quickly. Other than that personal pet peeve, the story was great.
I really enjoyed this novel! It`Its a message of love and devotion was a good reminder of what mothers willingly do for their families. (I finished it on mother's day). Great story, characters, and reminders of the joys of faith.
Another great books in a great series. I always enjoy George McVey's books and this one didn't disappoint. I loved Marta and Royce's story. Even had a visit with Nathan Ryder. I look forward to more books in the series.
Not Wanting too Let Go of His First Dead Wife to Love His Second Wife
