This is the complete set of ten books in the Blood Destiny Series by Connie Suttle. At the very affordable price of $9.99, this would be an excellent time to add the boxed set to your collection, or give to family and friends for the holidays.
Lissa’s life as a vampire begins on the day her husband is removed from life support. Turned by rogues who wager her life, Lissa is running from her maker who is determined to kill her, hunted by the Council, who has branded her a rogue and blackmailed by werewolves, who utilize her newly-developed talents for their own gain.
Connie Suttle lives in Oklahoma with her husband and three cats.
Connie holds an MFA in Fine Art (film production and animation) and taught courses at the university level before moving on to bookstore management. Nowadays, if she isn't writing or editing, she's dreaming up her next book.
That was one of the best series I have read in a long, long time! It was non-stop action from beginning to end. I sure cried a lot in several places from sadness but also from joy. I had evidently read this book many years ago before reading it again and it was even better than the first time. I LOVE books that are really long but this one is the longest I have ever read. I really had problems putting the book down to do daily things, like sleeping, eating and whatever else came along. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone loving the supernatural. You get that in the buckets full with this series. I think it took me over a week to finish it, but more than worth the time!
****WARNING, this review contains spoilers**** This review is related to events that took place over the entire 10 book series.
Lissa is a short, overweight, dumpy 47 year old woman at a bar drinking away her grief due to the passing of her husband when two vampires decide to turn her and bet on how long it takes for her to wake as a vampire before they inevitably kill her. Lissa wakes before the vampires can return on night 6, reads a note with the bet on it, and hightails it out of there. Lissa no longer resembles her 47 year old self due to vampirism but is instead now youthful, slim, and beautiful not to mention becoming a vampire has changed her facial features. Lissa quickly realizes she can't return to her life and takes off to Texas from Oklahoma. Lissa finds a job as a night security guard for Winkler whom she doesn't know is a werewolf, but he's a well-known billionaire who is building a special facial recognition technology. Lissa spends her time body guarding and learning about what it means to be a vampire through trial and error.
In comes the vampire counsel of which Wlodek is the head, to decide Lissa's fate. And although there are less than 15 female vampires in existence (for most women on whom the turn is attempted die), which is ridiculously small in comparison to over one hundred thousand men, Wlodek sends their Enforcer Gavin to dispatch Lissa for her sire's crime. In route to her location, plans change and Gavin is ordered instead to observe Lissa and to sign on as night security for Winkler while spying to get more information about Winkler's technology. Gavin and Lissa form a bond, go on something of a date and their romantic relationship is budding all the while Lissa doesn't realize that Gavin is also vampire. Once the technology is finished, Gavin places Lissa under compulsion and drags her back to the vampire counsel knowing full well that they'll kill her and even though he's developed feelings for her, he plans to make it a quick death. Turns out, Lissa receives a pardon by way of a tie-breaking vote so she'll not die after all. Merrill is chosen as her surrogate sire and begins to teach Lissa about being a vampire. The remaining books are about Lissa's journey as a vampire and then go on after that as she develops different powers and abilities.
This gets me to the parts of the book that disgusted me. Over and over again throughout the books, Lissa is betrayed, belittled, and manipulated by those closest to her but after a short trip to the roof of whatever building she's residing in at the time, all is forgiven. The majority of her love interests are users who treat her like a child. Perhaps this is because we’re reading about beings whose lifespans are in the hundreds, thousands, and hundred thousands of years old? But Lissa was 47, not 18! Mature enough to have a sense of self in my opinion. I keep waiting throughout the book for Lissa to form a spine and tell these manipulative a-holes that she will no longer be used, turn them out of her inner circle, or disappear for parts unknown until they appreciate her but she never does. Oh wait, not until she tries to kill herself do they feel remorse. Death via sun crisp but oh it’s not to be. The despicable treatment comes in the form of her mates, father, surrogate sire, vampire counsel, etc. Manipulate me into going on a mission where I sacrifice my life for the greater good, it's okay I actually survived and can do all of these amazing things now. Allow someone to violate my body by taking blood samples from me and performing a pelvic exam while I'm dead to the world as a vampire, oh that's okay too. Beat me as a punishment after I save your lives for supposedly disobeying my sire though I actually didn't, which my mate (Gavin) and surrogate sire (Merrill) agreed to without my knowledge, forgave! Force me to choose a vampire mate then marry me off to Gavin in absentia before the agreed upon timeline is up, no problem. Force mate marks on me without my permission, sure, forgiven. Sleep with the working women in your pleasure palace while mated to me who then attempt to kill me, absolutely you're forgiven. Force one of my mates into a marriage with another woman (though short) and I refuse to step foot on your planet, even for my daughter's ceremony though I change my mind for bad guy wizard's son. Manipulate the past to create me and sacrifice me for a greater purpose, why not? Switch the arm band on my soon to be adoptive son's (Lissa can't have children due to past trauma and because she's a vampire...until the end that is) for your son's because you foresaw your son being kidnapped, oh I finally found the thing that makes me despise my biological father so much I can barely stand to be in his presence. I mean COME ON! I wanted to slap lots of people throughout the books and the "honey" that came out in Lissa's dialogue repeatedly grated on my nerves.
The other parts of the books that fell short for me were the lack of descriptions and information about occurrences, character overload, abilities, races, and mates. All of a sudden, there's a new race of people on a new world with no explanation as to their abilities, customs, beliefs, descriptions of features, etc. "Who was that again?" was a constant question I asked myself while reading even though I read straight through all 10 books. The author introduces a new ability with no explanation as to how it works. Introduces new worlds without much information. What exactly does it mean to be a mate again for all of these species? Who knows. The men just feel her up whenever they want even though she has the ability to move away or leave but she often just stands there and lets it happen. Lissa has 15 or more mates, she loses count at some point and so do I. But all of the men who are honored enough to become one of her mates gets a ring and so does she. Insta-love is prevalent throughout with no chemistry leading up to it for many of Lissa's mates. It felt rushed and the only mates that I liked were the larenti, Roff, and Rene. I HATED Gavin after the beating, he was nonredeemable in my eyes after that but miracle of miracles, Lissa ends up pregnant with his baby at the end. Gasps. Oh, and did I mention that one of Lissa's mates was her biological grandfather's lover at some point in the distant past? Ick!
Oh and absolute best of all, everybody Lissa knows is reborn in some form or fashion throughout the book which spans hundreds of years. There is no absolute death for the people that she may have cared about, they're now warriors and healers and even her late husband makes a reappearance as one of her mates.
What I like about the books is the action and surprise villains along with the unique story. I was surprised often by who the bad guy or gals were and kept reading to get to see what happened next. I loved how Lissa became a force in terms of power, selflessly used her abilities for the betterment of herself and others, and tried to keep the universe from being overtaken by the bad guys. I liked the different species and worlds but feel they could have been better developed in the stories.
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT READ. THE CHARACTERS ARE AMAZING. THE HISTORY OF THE CHARACTERS ARE EXCITING AND ORIGINAL. I WISH THE STORY COULD GO ON AND ON
I ENJOYED THE TWISTS AND TURNS FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE LAST. THERE IS MYSTERY, MURDER, SECRETS, AND SO MUCH MORE. I GOT INTO THE STORY THAT I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. I WILL BE KEEPING THIS ONE TO READ AGAIN. I THINK THIS SERIES OF BOOKS COULD BE A TV SPECIAL.
This started so well. A middle aged women who found a new world and was making her place in it. The men turn out to be control freaks who control and misuse her trust and she repeatedly forgives them. Awful tripe of a past survivor of abuse putting up with verbal abuse and coercion because of love. Argh. Then the switch to alien world and multiple mates made it feel like a completely different genre. Sadly our heroine continues to choice awful men. Stay away.
These books are so good. I recommend them to everyone! I am so proud we are still getting glimpses in other books of Lissa's life and also still getting books about Lissa. I fell in love with the first book and each book has kept me hooked. They have made me laugh and cry and also want to punch a couple of characters in the d*ck! Keep up the good work and will be doing a reread again soon!
This is a collection that has it all and doesn’t require long drawn out bedroom scenes to fill up pages. There is love and hate, happiness and heartbreak. There are people and places that are brought to you in ways that make you laugh and cry and just keep reading. This is definitely my new favorite series!
If you want a series that you can't put down then this is it.
I read all eleven books one after the other I got so caught up in the story cause it was to hard to put down. I love this series and can't wait to see what comes out next.
These ten books had me spellbound. It's not often i can find 2 or3 books to hold my attention. Each book broadened the list of characters. They were intense and thoughtful
I liked these books a lot. Each story got better and better. I liked how she was sent into the future and to different worlds. Some of the names were hard to pronounce. I liked this author's style of writing.
I more than enjoyed this series. I literally laughed, cried, cringed and shouted for joy. I very much felt like I was there with the characters. I was sad when i came to the end of the series. I highly recommend this boxed set. It was very hard to put down.
I had my doubts when I started this 10-book series, thinking I'd lose interest after 1 or 2 books. I loved it and could not put it down! It's one of those great stories you can't wait to see what's next, but never want to finish it!!
Read the full series, never stopped. To say I was completely enthralled would be a complete understatement. I related to this author even when the language was more colorful than necessary.
I freely admit that I have an addiction. Although I have these books in the original kindle format and the quality paperback (in case my kindle dies), I wanted to check out the new format of these. What? It was on sale. ☺ Truthfully, the format doesn't matter to me once I'm fully immersed in this epic series.
