Good resource on a variety of succulents including sedums, ice plants, sempervivums, agave, yucca, and cacti. This book was geared more towards the obstacles surrounding cultivation in colder and/or wetter climates so it wasn’t as useful for me but still worthwhile.
This book is pornography for anyone with interest in succulents like sedum, chicks & hens, rock plants, cacti, yucca, etc. There is general growing advice, including types of soil, varieties of plants for various climates, watering strategies, and container gardening, which was not terribly in-depth but good enough. I'm trying to familiarize myself more with hardy succulents, mostly sedum, before we start building a green roof (on the chicken coop... not the house /yet). I'm planning on spending the winter pouring over these books, and this was a delicious place to start. The photos are detailed and rich, capturing the essence of variety.
Living in Arizona, my skew on the word "hardy" is plants that would survive in 100+ temps. This book was centered on cold weather hardy succulents. So it wasn't that useful to me, but I did learn about a few plants I'd never heard of before.
I love that this author has lived in Wisconsin, so, many parts of the book applies to my garden. I liked the photography, beautiful and inspirational. I bought the hard copy for my home library after reading the kindle version. Great resource - lots of information!
I originally checked this book out from Overdrive. It became evident to me I had to own the paperback for my home library! It has everything I would ever need to be successful with the succulents I have collected over the years and love very much. I never really knew much about these amazing plants. I grow them both inside and outdoors in my rock garden. I never really learned proper care for them and they grew in spite of my neglect. This book has lots of ideas and inspiration for using succulents. I am especially thrilled to learn Wisconsin's use and care of these plants because the author has experienced gardening here as well as other areas of the USA. Great book!! Great value! Great resource!
The pictures are nearly all labeled with plant information, and the pictures themselves are just gorgeous throughout! That should be a requirement of all garden books in my opinion - and this one delivers if you have any interest in succulents at all.
