Sasha McCandless-Connelly has a finely honed sense of right and wrong--and a long memory. The handful of grudges she's nursing has started to cause problems at work and at home. When an old adversary and an old ally both come back into the picture, she'll learn whether she has the capacity to forgive and forget. It's a task that just might prove harder than bringing down killers, running a law firm, or parenting twins.
Note from Melissa: This novella (approximately 75 printed pages) is a glimpse into Sasha's personal life for readers who can't get enough Sasha and Connelly. It's definitely NOT a good starting point for the series--you'll be woefully confused. If you're new to the series, pick up IRREPARABLE HARM (Book 1, available as a free ebook) instead.
The next full-length Sasha McCandless legal thriller will be available in 2018.
Melissa F. Miller is a multi-time USA Today bestselling author of mystery, thriller, suspense, and romance novels. Formerly a complex commercial litigator, Melissa graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in medieval literature and creative writing poetry and earned her JD, cum laude, from the Duquesne University School of Law, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
After fifteen years, Melissa traded the practice of law for the art of storytelling, drawing on her legal background and love of research to craft fast-paced, twisty books for readers who believe light drives out darkness, love is brave, and kind is strong. She writes strong, resilient characters who tackle serious (and sometimes dark) issues and themes with heart.
She is a member of Sisters in Crime, International Thriller Writers, and Novelists, Inc. When she’s not writing, you can find her tending her garden, doing yoga, or drinking coffee. Melissa currently lives outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with her family and their rescues—a cat and a beagle. The cat’s in charge.
Format: Kindle Edition I really enjoyed reading this novella about Sasha and the rest of her family and friends. I must thank Melissa for sending me an advanced reader copy in exchange for comments prior to publication and for an honest review. These novellas really help to round out the character development in Sasha, Connelly and her associates at work. It is really the work relationship that goes sort of on trial for Sasha in this novella. She is still upset with how Will and Naya put her on leave in the last book after she was involved in the bar fight. We also learn more about a bad guy, Wally Stewart, from an earlier book ,who tried to kill Sasha. He is about to come up for parole so Sasha has to write a victim's statement. I love how Sasha finally deals with that issue while also trying to reach a decision about a promotion in the law practice. These characters really come to life through the well chosen dialogue and narrative that Melissa provides. This novella might be short but it goes along way in adding depth to the main characters in this series.
A great read.. because I know most of the characters, I had difficulty putting it down... but I did note that the proof read did not go well. Early in the book there were several changes in Fonts and along with those, there were paragraphs repeated and it was kind of confusing.... as always, I highly recommend Melissa F. Millers books! I enjoyed the visit with old friends Sasha, Will, Bohdi and all...
It is often better to forgive someone for your own peace of mind.
This was a good book. I enjoyed it very much. Awarded it 5 stars because it also taught good reasons to forgive, if only to make it easier on yourself. Recommend readers who enjoy mystery and suspense to read this, along with the the preceding books of this series.
Miller has used the shorter novella format to advance character background around fundamental lifwe changes in earlier volumes, such as marriage or childbirth. Here, she uses it to work through something much more philosophical: learning how and why to forgive. Bodhi returns to offer a Buddhist perspective.
I really appreciate receiving an ARC because I absolutely love these Sasha books. I can never get enough of them. Sasha is totally something else and the story just flows along. Hoping there’s more to come.
Really enjoy this series. Only wish the "boxed" sets came with option for audible narration. Then I could keep reading even while needing to do other things like prep meals, or WANTING to do other things, keeping my hands active.
as well as an interesting discussion on the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation. I recommend all of the series written by Melissa Miller but I have to admit that Sasha McCandless-Connelly is my favorite.
I have read all of the Sasha McCandless novels, and I have enjoyed all of them. They are suspenseful, have many turns throughout the book, and always enjoyable. I would highly recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery.
I enjoy these novellas that seem like unusual , usually joyful interludes in the characters’ lives. In this one Sasha experiences some emotional growth. Which is a good thing , and Bodhi King shows up to do the teaching.
This is a very quick read that gives you just a hint of insight into how Sasha ticks! Found some minor typos, but nothing that takes away from the story.
A easy read that is entertaining. The plot is sort of loosely constructed, very simple. You cannot help but be drawn in by Sasha who has the traits of superwoman.
